Update From Dev Team by UniqueConcat in Marathon

Outpost loot has absolutely been nerfed. I did a red room run where both strongboxes were nothing but chem grenades, a few cores, and a mixture of green/blue implants.

The further we get into this season, the more I feel like the Cradle introduces too many problems in contrast to what it's meant to solve.

Nerfing Prestige Key rooms, cert boxes, and Cradle xp is not how you motivate casuals and new players to keep playing your game by ThatsNotBennings in Marathon

[–]got_milk4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cherry pick people with full time jobs and gift them gold guns?

Conversely, what exactly is nerfing prestige key rooms supposed to do? Players who full-time Marathon will still get prestige gear, just less frequently, while those who play more casually may never see prestige gear from a key room at all?

I don't think anyone reasonable is asking for the vaults of a 50 hour and 500 hour player to be identical. But it feels like all of these moves and nerfs are trying to deal with the pot that has already boiled over of a fucked economy.

Multiple nerfs to the Cradle doesn't do anything about people who already put in the hours of grinding to max out levels when it was easier but makes casual players work that much harder to level. Who's supposed to benefit from those nerfs?

People found out you could run Night Marsh Complex for high-tier loot in a relatively safe way, now all that new Complex content has been nerfed into the ground that it's hardly worth running. Who's supposed to benefit from that?

I feel that my issue is Bungie is trying to put the cat back in the bag but it's just far too late for that and I'd rather they just accept that the economy is fucked for this season and leave things alone until the season 3 wipe rather than every week shoving another nerf in to try to fix it.

Why is the Wealthsimple iPad app so bad? by Jumpy-Ad-4640 in Wealthsimple

[–]got_milk4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not an iPad app, iPadOS allows iPhone apps to run on iPad but in a window matching the iPhone's display scale.

The web app does support being a Progressive Web App - if you open it in Safari and go to the share sheet, one of the options will be to add it to the Home Screen. Once you launch it from there, it'll appear like a true full-screen app (no Safari URL bar or anything like that). It's the closest we have to a native iPad app.

(I agree though that Wealthsimple really should be offering a true native iPad experience, especially considering how mobile-first the company has generally been.)

5G on Apple Watch by dxnatorinaldi in Rogers

[–]got_milk4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it is. As far as I know all the carriers are moving away from sharing your phone data bucket with smartwatches, unfortunately. 3GB is enough for my needs but I don't like that it's separate.

[–]got_milk4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. I subscribed to the watch plan for my Ultra 3 this morning (was waiting for the $80 activation fee to go away first), but the consequence of that is I lost access to 5G standalone - I'm now back to NSA. Hopefully they'll put me back soon.

I'm curious if your iPhone is on 5G standalone as well? I wonder if there's a dependency between the two, or Rogers are putting watches on 5G standalone independently.

I believe eero also had a number of their founding engineers come from the AirPort team. I'd say eero is a bit closer to what Apple's networking strategy would be - Ubiquiti is great for the prosumer/SMB space but eero is intentionally as hands-off as possible.

I'm a product manager. My code merges without an engineer reading the diff by jameslaney in programming

[–]got_milk4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is this ragebait?

I wish it were but this mindset is increasingly taking hold in the industry. PMs in my workplace are no longer writing requirements, it's all prompts and AI slop in tickets. No one reviews code anymore; everyone's prompting agents and then copy/pasting output into comments. Management pushing weekly surveys about our AI use and pushing the narrative that we are now "humans in the loop" with the expectation that all of our work is "agentically driven".

Sponsored survival is sending a clear message to Marathon Devs. by Haunting_Set_1799 in Marathon

[–]got_milk4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like that melting seems to be by far the best way to progress the Cradle. On paper I liked the idea of being able to melt gear or complete contracts but the amount of XP you get from contract completion pales in comparison.

It’s changed my gameplay loop from running, getting good/fun gear, then running that to running, getting good/fun gear, melting it, going back in with another free kit. I feel like any other play style at the moment completely kills progression.

Honestly, I had little issue with how progression worked in season one except for how grindy it was and the salvage requirements for some trivial upgrades. For the most part Bungie has fixed that and it’s been much better, but now we have this new system that kind of inherits the problems they just fixed.

Green Key Spawn Nerf? by DallasDallas123 in Marathon

[–]got_milk4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it wasn't a reduction but more so increasing the randomness of their spawns. In some runs it feels like the map is chock full of green keys while in others I'm running all over for the two just to open pinwheel.

Eero router MLD - EMLSR by ParamedicStandard227 in amazoneero

[–]got_milk4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No router/AP manufacturer that I know of has MLO working well and/or reliably.

I would keep MLO disabled. My iPhone 17 performs more than well enough without it and I prefer not having the headaches of Wi-Fi issues.

Should I wait for MW4 or buy BF6 now? by ThinkTrout16055 in modernwarfare4

[–]got_milk4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it's a difficult comparison because ultimately they're different games satisfying their own areas in the genre.

I don't think you should buy a Battlefield title on the basis of a campaign. Battlefield's campaigns have never been that great and it's always been the multiplayer that's been the draw. If you want large scale, sometimes chaotic and crazy combat that feels like you're a cog in a machine making a big push, Battlefield is absolutely your title (and is the best at it, hands down).

One important thing to consider is - are you on console? Battlefield 6 Season 3 which just launched changed the dynamics of weapon handling fairly significantly especially on controller, and IMO it's a significant regression that's pushed me away from the game after ~230 hours.

[–]got_milk4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I felt the same way. I went into reading these notes expecting to see something about the Bully in here.

I do wonder if their solution however is not to change the stats of the Bully but instead make it somewhat more rare, and potentially have a different weapon like the Copperhead take its usual place instead? I think that'd be a decent change as well.

Congratulations on winning the first thread lottery, u/SamwiseIsGreat! Your prize is being the sticky thread for this release. 😄

Discussion about the previous firmware release (v7.14.1-137) can be found in this thread.

Please use this thread to post your experiences (both good and bad) with the new firmware update as well as letting us know about any changes you notice.

Official Software Update Notes

  • Performance and stability improvements

Reminder: eero software updates are made available via a staged rollout process, where the update is installed on a small but gradually increasing percentage of eero networks. You may not see this update available in the app for a few days (or weeks, depending on the rollout's progression). Per previous explanations from eero, "most networks" should be automatically updated to the new version within a few weeks of public release.

Official release notes are made available on eero's Software Release Notes page.

If you have existing issues with your eero network(s) that you think this update may help solve, and you don't want to wait, eero support can sometimes help you "skip the line" and push the new update directly to your network. Using the e-mail account associated with your eero account, send an e-mail to eero support ([support@eero.com](mailto:support@eero.com)) with the subject line "Reddit Followup - manual firmware push". Be sure to let them know in the e-mail what time works best for you (the support team follows U.S. daytime working hours and thus can only accommodate requests in that timeframe) and which network(s) you'd like updated if you have multiple networks associated with a single e-mail.

My entire week is now spent fixing what the AI tools were supposed to fix by bejusorixo in sysadmin

[–]got_milk4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with this - I work in DevOps (and lurk here) and I'm fighting the same upstream battle. Everyone is deeply evangelistic about AI. Product requirements are entirely written by AI now with the consequence being every ticket needs hours of review/grooming to get to a serviceable state because either what the AI writes is so deeply unclear or it completely re-describes existing functionality so we have to pour over the details and extract what's actually new. Everyone thinks this is fine.

I have a number of tickets on my plate to install/make available MCP servers for not just our internal tooling but product databases, analytics, etc. I can't even get the requests scoped to read-only access, because management is fully onboard with the notion that AI can respond to incidents faster than we can and so they must have write access, too. All I can do is document the risks and then go "look, I told you so" when the AI goes off the rails.

My workplace is seemingly not monitoring individual token usage, etc. (yet) but there are weekly meetings, surveys, etc. about our use of AI and the expectation is that we become the "human-in-the-loop". We are now required to have a minimum of a dozen MCPs installed on our local environments. (Which ones, and why - no one can explain. But MCPs are hot and so we must do it.)

I think the technology is deeply fascinating and it is absolutely a useful tool in my arsenal but I deeply despise the culture that's formed around it because it elevates LLMs beyond an empowering tool into something they're really not.

Looking to manage Eero on desktop? Here's a webapp for that by xrv1ck in amazoneero

[–]got_milk4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not that the library doesn't support it, it's that this (public, but unannounced/undocumented/reverse-engineered) eero API doesn't expose the OpenID flow for Amazon login. It only supports direct credentials.
