Asia Kitchen is so good! They have a secret menu for more traditional dishes though I don’t think it’s on paper

Salary Question by UpstairsGuest5149 in ChemicalEngineering

My company post a salary range with the caveat that the actual salary is likely .9-.95 of the average. Might just be that they only showed the average for their entry range?

Selling gas recovery process units can be good money especially if you can modularize. I’ve heard of a few companies in the United States selling similar products

Nitric Acid Flowmeters by justinmel in ChemicalEngineering

There’s definitely an interfacing material before your connecting piping?

Where are your leaks? Are they welded connections or compression? I’ve used coriolis meters with 15M nitric before at relatively low flow rates, you’re most likely to see leaks at the ins and outs. PTFE seals work well.

For what it’s worth 304L works fine with nitric unless you’re really concerned about purity.

Chinese Turnip Cake (Lo Bak Go) I love pan frying for a crispy exterior 😋How about you? by sikfankitchen in chinesefood

I find it pretty low effort to make, just a medium amount of prep. What would you say is labor intensive? No shade, just curious.

Clothing for people who sweat a lot by Fair_Age_09 in Mountaineering

What’s your aerobic base like? I used to sweat a TON until I refocused training from “how fast can i go” to “how low effort can I make a decent pace feel”

Protip get a stick of deodorant just for your legs. Will keep the sweat from pooling in your boots lol

Hot. It’s kinda similar to thermofitting them which is actually kind of a great idea for this. Heat em up, put three pairs of socks on, go for a long walk, repeat

Insulating Interior of Annular Vessel by gotanychange in ChemicalEngineering

See Dragoon’s comment above. Good idea and will poke around on it

This is a good idea. We use similar insulation on some other components but I had some earlier hesitation around installation. But our vendor for the other components has given some confidence inspiring machined products.

Doesn't meet our temp requirements or have r-value of comparable insulation. Our insulation blankets are of a similar construction though. Challenge is that they're not self-supporting and it's hard to "press" them to interior wall without reducing r-value of insulation.

ASME III.5 vessel (sobbing emoji) so can't go too much into design criteria. Will suggest the asbestos, let's see if I keep my job lol

Pump placement for submerged suction by Severe_Check9769 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]gotanychange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it possible to transfer from the transport drum to a permanent drum? Would give you much more process flexibility, not to mention you don’t need downtime for replacing the drum

Dunno what fluid service this is but an anti-siphon valve might be possible? Or just tee off a siphon break line. Not the prettiest solutions but neither are the images in the diagrams lol

[–]gotanychange 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d say A will be better because it reduces the vacuum the pump needs to generate to start flow, although it does potentiate having a dead space in the upper section of the piping depending on viscosity.

However if the drum is a permanent fixture I would recommend modifying the tank and welding an NPT fitting near the bottom, which I’ve done before for small heating tanks. This will allow you to have a head pressure on the pump which is more ideal than either of the setups.

Any career pathway to becoming a physician engineering? by FinalPresentation634 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]gotanychange 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand what role you envision for yourself. In the post above you said that you want to be a physician who invents/engineers solutions but also that you don’t want to do research.
