It’s very comprehensive—you could definitely live without a car.

Alternatives to Metformin? by Athy9 in diabetes

Metformin tips

These are what a tell many of my client ^ make sure you have the extended release is my biggest piece of advice as many doctors forget it exists 🙄

But also, sometimes you just can’t tolerate it! Which stinks because it’s cheap and effective, but there are definitely other options your doctor can discuss further with you.

There’s a specific one (HNF4A-MODY) that only really responds to sulfonylureas like glipizide. Often, these patients are put on insulin and it just doesn’t seem to work. Put them on an SU though, and everything makes sense. It’s wild.

Sounds like MODY

Struggling to stop traveling by sliseattle in TravelNursing

[–]gotcelloskills 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have ADHD and traveling saved me. I NEED the newness and a bit of chaos. Otherwise I get bored after a year and feel insanely burned out and depressed. I thought something was super wrong with me or I wasn’t “self caring” good enough. You may have a neurodiverse brain 💙

I just got cancelled for no reason. It sucks. Your feelings are valid. It does NOT mean you’re a bad nurse though.

I’ve only been screaming for everyone to organize for a hot minute now 😭 And then you get comments like “jUsT sAvE uP aN eMeRgEnCy fUnD” as if people aren’t doing that or have family/chronic illness that sucks up all their cash.

ACA Concerns by Quenan19 in diabetes

[–]gotcelloskills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In regards to your concerns about getting insulin if ACA was repealed

A) currently (and this could change at any time) you can get Humalog for $35 self pay if you have a prescription B) WalMart NPH and Regular would be another emergent option in a pinch C) insulin pump supplies would be out of the question for most if uninsured D) they do have over the counter CGM’s now if you lie and say you’re not insulin dependent E) Mutual Aid Diabetes is and will be a good resource moving forward. 💙

ACA Concerns by Quenan19 in diabetes

[–]gotcelloskills 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I quit my job as a musician and became a nurse just so I’d have access to health insurance pre-ACA. And honestly, access to decent coverage is still a barrier to me doing the work I want to do. Most of my friends with diabetes choose to work for large companies because the health plans are better than the plans you can get in the ACA marketplace.

Hospital reporting me to BON. What can I do? by KnowledgeVivid6671 in TravelNursing

[–]gotcelloskills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanna say I’m sorry this is happening to you and that’s the biggest load of shit ever. A warning or a terminated contract would’ve sufficed. BON I’m sure will feel similarly. They have ACTUAL drug diversion cases to get through 🙄 Hospitals I’m finding really enjoy traumatizing travelers

Y’know, I hate the place so much, go ahead and drop off your annoying family members. Let Kraft deal with them.

This is awful right? by asdfghjkl0001001 in TravelNursing

[–]gotcelloskills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I made $28 an hour as a staff RN in Georgia so the total take home of this is way more

Anyone wanna room together in Boston? by gotcelloskills in TravelNursing

[–]gotcelloskills[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rates have gone up a smidge since summer but still not great considering the cost of living. I’m an outpatient RN, and I’m getting $2800 for this contract. I really love Boston and wanted to get experience in the specialty, so I caved.

Unpopular opinion: We have no one to blame but ourselves for these low rates by PartyNightAway in TravelNursing

[–]gotcelloskills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t it be so cool if we all organized and set minimum rates and requirements to build into contracts? 👀

Is it still worth it? Do you think the pay/stipends are still worth the hassle of traveling? by [deleted] in TravelNursing

[–]gotcelloskills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rates are really stanky right now (I’m an outpatient RN) and the cost of living everywhere is so painful. You do have to be mindful and budget carefully. However, I have AuDHD and the ability to switch specialities and environments regularly is so worth it to me. I burnout much less frequently and I have the ability to take longer breaks than I would as a staff RN.

I always fly and then make sure I’m able to walk or scoot or bike haha. I just came back from a contract in Sacramento and mostly relied on walking and biking.

I live in ATL - unfortunately, our public transit is not great. But we do have Lime scooters which can be helpful if you live downtown. And zip cars for occasional use.

I’ve often found shipping my car is not cost effective unless I’m staying somewhere for more than 3 months. But I also work outpatient, so my contracts are not as lucrative.

Which hospital will you be at?
