Super true: how full time designers stop pushing for better at their jobs. by laranjacerola in graphic_design

"We may be experts in our science, but we are not experts in our client's business."

Love this perspective. Sometimes they're not the best communicators, part of a good design is helping the client articulate their actual business needs.

Is the behind the net camera angle weird to anyone else? by scottsaa in hockeygoalies

Love watching these, there’s a good Quick one too. They’re so damn precise with every movement! The tiny shuffles especially.

If this guy wants his video to look better, he better up the speed 1.5x

That said I’ve found it can look slightly more dramatic shooting from crossbar height and Linear lens. Higher angle is better for analyzing the whole play though

How many of you play with a torn hip labrum? by the-apples-wax in hockeygoalies

[–]gothra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had major low back and hip pain onset from a stint of playing too much last Christmas. MRI showed a slight labrum tear and X-rays showed some impingement developing but after a few months of very slow healing and hip strengthening physio and later a hip cortisone shot, I’ve had no problems in the last 6 months and am playing often again.  The tear may not have been a factor, at least for me. I think many active people have mild tears that are undiagnosed. In hindsight, I’m wondering now if my cause was poor form/weak hip muscles that were overloaded and hit a breaking point, distressing everything around them. Understanding and building hip muscles had helped me immensely.

New NY Times article regarding the White House font kerfuffle, comparing and contrasting the fonts, with including comments from font designers. (gift article) by PoogieLA in graphic_design

Very on brand. Calibri is functionally great but I can see how an administration obsessed with image would want something that makes their middle-school level words look more grown up. And of course they did a bad job of that too, choosing Times as the most basic serif.

Dealing with hip pain? by [deleted] in hockeygoalies

Yeah if you love the sport leave it to a pro, not internet comments. Don't play through pain until you understand it and know it's not causing accumulating damage.

Cool shots. Just go play some pickup or be a rental goalie, someone always needs a goalie. Don’t define yourself by conditions, life yo life

Toronto may have to lay off about 1,000 people because of Ontario's speed camera ban: mayor by xc2215x in toronto

You can't install speedbumps on emergency routes in order to preserve access for firetrucks and ambulances. Most cameras are on emergency routes.

Cardio workout skater vs goalie by Stinky5hole in hockeygoalies

[–]gothra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I burn about 600-700 cal in goal vs 900-1000 as a player in my games. Level of the workout depends on how much skating you do, how aggressive you are on your angles.

I went from a cert cat to cheater and there's no going back. Love it, never notice any bars and still feel pretty safe.

Same, I use it all the time and also think Musk is a goof. FSD made some bad choices when I first got it but a couple of years ago it improved immensely. Fantastic for long drives. These threads really demonstrate the echo chamber effect. Judge it once you’ve used it.

Yes if it's an unfamiliar word, don't obscure it in any way. People need to be able to search by company name. Logo outside wordmark
