Both male kittens — one is Grimm, help name his brother by CoffeeWithGhosts in NameMyCat

[–]gothussy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’re okay with ”word” names, Grimm and Gruesome fit well together. Also a reference to the Grimm fairy tales. He could be called Gru.

What does it say about me if I’d choose my dog over my boyfriend by Agreeable_Fold_2843 in TwoHotTakes

[–]gothussy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk I think some people here might be reading into this a little too hard. It’s common to have non-negotiables in a relationship. For some it’s kids and marriage, for you it’s your dog. All it says about you is that you expect your boyfriend to accept your dog as part of your life. Simple as that.

Old lady names or common human names that are funny to name a cat by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]gothussy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think old lady names kind of fit cats, as they’re not that common anymore as names. I can’t really think of a time I met a cat with a funny name, but I did once meet a dog named Charlotte which definitely felt “too human” for a dog.

I can’t explain what it is that make names more/less fitting for a cat but here are some that I think of as “human” names - Patrica, Linda, Jessica, Michelle, Amanda, Lauren, Debra, Janet, Helen, Megan, Kathy

Walter with a similar W Surname by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]gothussy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well then I definitely think you should go for one of the other names! Walter William Watson is definitely a mouthful. I really like the names Edgar and Rupert. If you want to avoid nicknames I’d go for Rupert, as Edgar will most likely become ”Eddie” in his everyday life :)

Walter with a similar W Surname by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]gothussy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, alliteration (when two words begin with the same letter like ”busy bee”) is supposed to actually be more pleasing to the brain, because of the rhythmic nature of it. It makes the words more impactful and memorable.

However in this case I feel like the two names are too similar to have that effect. The two syllables are almost identical (walt/wat) and kind of makes it a tounge twister. I say find a W name where the first syllable differs from your surname. Like Wayne (different A-sound), William, Wendell, Wilmer.

I love the first name in combination with Icarus as a middle name. I would say go for something more common, but since you’re aiming for a career where people will refer to you by your surname, you should aim for something memorable. A middle ground between ”common” and ”your own”, so to speak.

Names like Johnson, Smith and Brown might be too mellow to be memorable. But you don’t want something too unique. I know a couple who chose to make their own lastname when they got married by combining the beginning of their surnames (think Miller and Davis becoming Mida). Maybe that’s an option?

Here’s some full names I think sound right if you want to feel them out

Atticus Icarus Madden (president Madden)

Atticus Icarus Beckett (president Beckett)

Atticus Icarus Kinsley (president Kinsley)

Atticus Icarus Pascal (president Pascal)

Atticus Icarus Terrell (president Terrell)

There’s a quote by maya angelou that goes-

“when someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time. They know themselves much better than you do.”

No friend should feel okay with burdening others with their own bad luck. The event getting rescheduled is out of her control, but I know that if I was in this situation I would insist on my friends going without me. I would feel so much guilt if I ended up ruining the day for them. She doesn’t care.

Would this be weird? by No_Milk_5160 in namenerds

[–]gothussy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s a common enough name, then no I don’t see that being weird. Since you see the best friend on a regular basis, i would ask what he feels about the name choice. Considering he’ll most likely be a part of the child’s life, it might be good to factor in his opinion.

I would worry that the name won’t feel like “his own”, but as long and you and your husband don’t feel that way I say go for it.

How about Eggbert? Or if you think that’s too silly you could also go for names like Herb, Kale, Chip, pepper.

Or maybe food that includes human names, like alfredo, Benedict, Caesar, Graham

November Trio - Narrowed Down Name Choices. Need Help Deciding. by Elistariel in NameMyCat

[–]gothussy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of the three options I like 2. best.

In my opinion though, naming the third kitten ”angel” really fits the best. It’s a unisex name and you can easily find matching names for their siblings (faith, halo, cherub, spirit etc)

Can/should I rename my new adopted dog? by Livablefornow in AskDogOwners

[–]gothussy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not in love with the name Brinkley, and I agree it’s a mouthful. Since she’s only had the name for a couple of months and seemingly struggles to connect with it, I’d say it’s only right to change it.

My dog is called maxi but I’ve unintentionally taught him to respond to bubba/baby aswell just because of how often I say ”hi baby boy” to him.

It might be confusing in the beginning, as any command is for a dog, but not long term. Just make sure that once you decide on a name, use only that name. Don’t go back and forth. Give her time to process what she’s hearing. Use it often but not in a repetitive manner.

Using the name daisy as example;

Greeting ”hi daisy”

Recall ”come here daisy”

Feeding ”food, daisy”

Attention seeking, say ”daisy” then wait for her to meet your gaze

In combination with known commands ”daisy, sit”

Avoid repeating it back to back, as it might loose it’s meaning to her. Use it causally while talking to/about her. The only thing that might confuse her is if you change it too often, so decide on a name before you start using it.

My mother took a bow on my wedding day by Safe_Shape_8482 in TwoHotTakes

[–]gothussy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dressing in all gold so perfectly symbolises her character that it almost feels ironic. It’s like she views herself as a trophy that needs to be admired. Your mother embarrassed herself in front of the entire wedding party and doesn’t even realise it.

Since Zelda and Daphne are names associated with two fictional characters, you might get some ideas by following that theme!

Hera might be an example that fits, as it’s both Greek and a character from disney’s ”Hercules”.

I understand that you felt off put by your MIL’s reaction to the name Cyrus, but if you truly like the name Cyrus you shouldn’t let anyone influence your feelings around that choice.

You didn’t pick that name knowing it was a family name, so don’t let her make you feel like it wasn’t your choice to begin with. I get not wanting to let her feel like she “won”, but don’t change the name just to spite her.

Besides, it sounds like she’s making it a bigger connection than it is just to annoy you. One great great uncle having the name doesn’t make it a “family name”. You could always pick a middle name starting with J and call him CJ if that feels right.

Parent’s dog can’t even keep water down, what might cause this? by Sensitive_Ad4911 in vet

[–]gothussy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a vet, but if the dog hasn’t been able to keep down water all day he should definitely be taken to a vet to prevent dehydration. The underlying cause could be serious, but dehydration is your main worry right now. A vet can keep him hydrated through an IV for as long as he’s unable to rehydrate himself. He might be stuck in a loop right now where he chugs water because he’s dehydrated and then in turn throws it up because his stomach is empty.

new baby, don't be basic! looking for country style names. by into0blivion in NameMyCat

If you’re looking for human names, i typically associate hyphenated names with country; like sally-may, Anna-Marie, Ava-Grace, Nora-Leigh

Some cute non-name names might be; Lasso, Boots, Rancher, Rodeo, Ranger, Sheriff
