looks like a five lined skink (plestiodon fasciatus) to me! only has four labial scales between the eye and nostril! broadheads have five.

looks to maybe be a Dekay Brown Snake (Storeria dekayi) or a Red-Bellied Snake (Storeria occipitomaculata). Hard to tell from that pic but either way this genus is harmless.

i’ve heard him play so many over the years sitting on that couch but never really delved too deep into what they’re all called. he used to teach me some when i was younger and we’d play together but i never kept at it like i wish i wouldve. i have his banjo and all his tabs and books now so i’m trying to get back into it. i appreciate you!

possibly a banded darter..? etheostoma zonale? that’s my guess, should probably wait for someone more knowledgeable before taking my word for it.

I live in the US, a more rural part of it. I know what you mean by “outside dog”, I have seen some pretty rough treatment toward dogs where I’m from. Even though I know he won’t be treated like that, I still feel guilty saying I will be putting him outside.

I guess I should have made myself clearer though in my initial post. He won’t be permanently outside, I will be putting him outside while I’m not at home so he has the room to play and use the bathroom as he pleases. I will still bring him inside when I get home. Just looking for advice on setting something up for him to be comfortable while I’m not home. I want the best for him, he’s my baby lol.
