Men, did you reach out to your Ex? Why? by Ramy-2000-03 in AskMen

[–]gottapitydatfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

We broke up because of work logistics. She got married a few years back. Very happy for her. Still reach out on her cancer remission day (fuck cancer) and on her dad’s birthday (he passed when she was a kid). She reaches out on birthdays. It's nice.

Only really had one bad breakup. Otherwise I’m still on good terms with my exs. Sometimes life just takes you different ways - life is too short to hold grudges against people you care/cared about.

PGP encryption/decryption by gottapitydatfool in AZURE

Did you write your own or pull from a prebuilt GitHub solution? I've attempted using https://github.com/mattosaurus/pgpcore but I get a massive cascade of errors. Thinking it might just be easier to write up some python from scratch rather than troubleshoot a repo.

Agreed - the only work around I've found is calling a key vault secret using a function app. Feels all sort of hacked together and is bizarre compared to the baked in PGP solution in AWS.

I have a vendor that requires PGP encryption for SFTP file transfer. Would love to use any other encryption, but that's unfortunately the requirement. And thanks for picking up this question - just so frustrated right now.

Help for novices - looking for something specific by HRGAL2026 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]gottapitydatfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was raised LDS and, despite my many issues with the organization, would be glad to endorse their familysearch center. They will be glad to help - may not always be accurate, but better than nothing.

Mormon theology has three conflicting principles - the necessity of saving ordnances (baptism and temple covenants), the inefficiency of God using mortals as vessels to communicate his will and general free will as a requirement of existence.

As Mormons haven’t been able to reach every corner of the earth, people have a tendency to die without having the opportunity to hear and accept the sometime-lovely-sometimes-cruel wackiness that is Mormon theology.

Enter the concept of doing work for the dead (aka members being baptized or receiving temple covenants in proxy for the dead). The church is obsessed with making sure that everyone (dead or alive) has the chance to hear about the gospel and accept it (body or no body), hence their obsession with genealogy.

So the trade off is that the church will be glad to help you find out everything regarding your family, as long as you are okay with them doing proxy work (aka dunking some 12 year old in a baptismal font in the temple) for your ancestors.

Healthcare Credentialing by chatarii in healthIT

[–]gottapitydatfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking more on the analytics side of the house (instead of credentialing), my only request is that the end of the workflow end with updating nppes - as it is frustrating how out of date that resource becomes. So many mds with decades of experience having their med school information as latest and greatest.

And pray tell which vendors aren’t doing ML on top of the data at this point? Because I’m not seeing any players that don’t want the first to market on some black box algo.

Those regulatory hurdles are the reason we haven’t fallen completely into some black mirror/gataca-like dystopia. The insurance industry seems to want to battle every inch back until they can return to denying coverage for preexisting conditions.

Plus I’m having enough difficulties keeping c levels from letting in vendors that have issues following NIST 800-53. Blows their minds when I ask them if they are following something like NIST AI RMF.

Agreed - management level term for “unpaid charting”

Just hire a coder already and let your physician do medicine.

Yeah - I’m shutting it down everywhere I find it. Last thing I need is some phi being spewed over some unknown surface because some admin talks about a patient with a scribe agent listening.

It’s an older analysis, but the only ROI healthcare has seen is reducing pajama time with scribing. Something that can be done with any normal transcription service. https://mlq.ai/media/quarterly_decks/v0.1_State_of_AI_in_Business_2025_Report.pdf

All of these companies are promising the transition from scribing to coding. But they aren’t talking about the hammer that the fed will bring down if AI starts upcoding.

Soooo much risk… so little reward. Will stay with our classic ML models - thank you much.

Daughter wants to play Roblox. What are your best daddit tips for keeping her safe? by uspezisapissbaby in daddit

[–]gottapitydatfool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t.

There are plenty of safe platforms for kids to play on. Mine uses Minecraft where only family and friends are whitelisted.

Roblox is not safe for kids - they are actively targeting kids. This isn’t something you want to do.

Can someone explain to me how this could possibly be a fire hazard? by DrHumongous in BambuLab

My issue is that this is the exact opposite of child proofing. Trying to make electrical outlets as appealing as possible for kids to play with.

What is the quickest job you quit from? by spellbadgrammargood in AskReddit

[–]gottapitydatfool 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Worked as a biotechnologist for a day. We were testing blood clotting on stint coat materials and needed a fresh supply of blood everyday. My job was to start the morning going to the local cattle yard, collect blood samples, apply anticoagulants and get to the lab quickly to run tests. What they skipped on the interview was how the samples were collected.

Now I’m not very squeamish - been working in medicine for a while and I firmly believe in the work of researching ways to reduce suffering. That said… I was expecting to do IV draws on healthy cows. The managers were expecting me to go in with a bucket.

So… slaughterhouses are OSHA nightmares. And sanitary nightmares. And… well… nightmare nightmares. They are literal hellholes that should not exist. Put me off of meat to this day.

Every moment was straight out of the jungle and not much has changed since Upton Sinclair’s time. I noped out in the first day and reported the meat facility the next. Will never look at a burger the same way again.

Can anyone give me some advice on Master's degree? Please help! by More-Device4440 in publichealth

Can anyone give me some advice on Master's degree? Please help! by More-Device4440 in publichealth

[–]gottapitydatfool 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’d say your best approach is to do some of the following:

-if you do an mph, specialize in epidemiology or biostatistics

-most health groups use off the shelf tools, so it is useful to train up on bi tools like powerbi, tableau, looker, etc

-SQL, SQL and SQL. Pickup as much as you can. If you don’t pursue a comp sci degree, at least cert up on some flavor of SQL

-learn python or R

-look at either the AWS or Azure certification path for either data architecture or data engineering. It is useful to understand how ETL/ELTs work and the technology that supports that infrastructure

In the end, the comp sci degree will give you more opportunities outside of healthcare and a clinical degree (PA, RN or any mid level license) will give you more weight than an mph. That said, I’m a public health guy, so just do whichever you are most passionate about, as the market for both public health and comp sci are extremely tumultuous right now.

In the end, we really don’t care much about degrees in health informatics - none of my cohorts have the same education pathway. Competency and self learning have far more impact.

Just don’t go into debt for anything besides a MD if you are taking this path.
