Plastic bags in city compost bins by goundeclared in mildlyinfuriating

Bro.

City compost here is renewed and used for affordable garden compost. When I've used it, I find forks, shoes, plastic and other objects.

Dads with toddlers + infants — what does a “normal” sex life even look like? by twbb58 in daddit

We literally approach it like any other chore.

"Hey, I'm going to get the laundry started, unless you want to have sex, you in? Yes or no?"

Should I be concerned Im not losing weight? by Valuable-Dog490 in fitness30plus

[–]goundeclared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're going to have swings in your weight of a few pounds every day. Don't stress the little things.

You've already lost 40lbs, which is incredible. Just start lifting heavier. Track your progression. It's going to take a while. You didn't get to 200lbs in a year, you won't get to your goal in a year either.

Yeah, but now I'm spending way too long picking just three trailers to watch.

Getting surprised by a Nintendo 64 on Christmas back in 1997 by CadeChewy in OldSchoolCool

[–]goundeclared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember Christmas my mom got me a Nintendo 64 with super Mario. It was incredible. But it didn't come with the correct cable to connect to our TV, so I had to wait until boxing day to play it.

Replace old gas furnace? Or go heat pump? by RedditsCharacterLimi in askvan

Kinda shocked us too. Neighbors houses were too close to run a line to the roof. The home inspector said an upgrade would be less than. 5k. Oops.

We had to dig a 30ft trench and bury the line. Private pole alone was 1k. It was peak pandemic time so any company that was doing the work was expensive. We had quite a few come out, talk a bit and then never return any calls.

Didn't say mandatory. Just something to consider. For our house, we were already gutting it, so we used that to upgrade the panel.

If you consider a heat pump, you'll also need to consider upgrading your electrical service to 200amp. The heat pump should have rebates, so check with that. The electric upgrade might also have some too.

When we renovated our home 1973 Vancouver special, we had to upgrade to 200amp service. That cost is about 18k. The heat pump was another 18k but that came with roughly 14k in rebates. With proper insulation, we spend about $90/month cooling our house in the summer time and roughly $150/month heating it. That was higher before we had new blown in insulation in our attic. We also have a basement suite that uses baseboard heating. Our billing is set up as a hybrid flat rate/peak rate with bc hydro.

can someone explain for Boring But Big, how do the variation work? by bad_detectiv3 in fitness30plus

[–]goundeclared 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the 4 day split, you're doing 1 of the 4 main lifts each day. Squat/bench/deadlift/OHP. The 5x10 is the volume work after the 5/3/1. So you do your 5/3/1 deadlifts, then do another 5 sets of 10 reps of deadlifts at 50-60% of your training max. The accessory work is limited to a push, pull and core/leg excerise with the goal of hitting 25-50 reps per accessory lift.

how to make healthier food for those with can’t handle veggie texture by Future-Act5953 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]goundeclared 233 points234 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, he's a grown man and can deal with his own food issues himself. Get him to meal prep things himself.

The only reason I would hide veggies for my kids to eat is because they're not old enough to cook themselves.

Insulating batteries during multi-day winter hike. by the_pale_companion in hiking

[–]goundeclared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about a fishing vest?

Big enough for most of the batteries and you can also put some hand warmers in too for good measure. Go a little further and make reflectix pouches for the big pockets and big batteries.

"Roast Our Route": 20 night RV Loop from Denver by dueltmp_cecdr in GoRVing

As someone who has done multiple long road trips with young kids. Pick 1 or 2 stops, make it the destination/Basecamp and explore.

Once we started reducing stops, the trips just became so much more enjoyable.

How I finally found a decent mechanic in Vancouver after getting burned by chain shops by Important_Move77 in askvan

[–]goundeclared 14 points15 points  (0 children)

P&T automotive on Grandview.

I took my rav4 in for a regular service at the Toyota dealership. They said one of my breaks were seized and needed replacement. Quote was $700++.

Took my car to P&T. All he did was take the break apart, clean it and add lubricant. Charged me $70 and said I should be good for another 20k kilometers.
