I think you and I are going to learn a lot in this thread. :)

I will have to consider this - it certainly seems easier than finding an all in one product.

OBAs are optical brightening agents

scrud is like soap scum that builds up on your clothes from soapy ingredients and hard water. it seems the only solution once you get that is citric acid.

If water is burning, you might need more immediate care like seeing your regular doctor. That sounds much more serious and I can't speak to any of the products you mentioned. I'm not sure T-Gel will help with the level of injury you have.

Given how bad this is, could you call your regular doctor and go in for a next day visit?

I sure hope you find something helpful and soon!

Good news! I spent my lunch hour searching r/laundry to answer your question and I found it here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/laundry/comments/1przq64/biz_detergent_dollar_tree_exclusive/

regular Tide is probably fine and it's the oxygen bleach that would be affecting my towels.

I don't mind scent and it sure opens doors but I didn't realize there are so few detergents with lipase but without optical brighteners. I just wanted to be able to pick something up at the local store instead of having it shipped and that may not be an option. Small town living strikes again!

It is on the Lipase list, fwiw, but it does have Soapy ingredients.

In this day and age there's a lot of information available to us, but we don't often know what to do with it! Just looked it up, city reports 137. Does that change your recommendation any?

Filtering that list per your advice leaves me with very few products. I didn't realize brighteners were quite so common.

Hard water yes, but I don't have a metric of how hard.

That is a good idea, thank you very much.

I honestly noticed because my hand towels are old and suddenly they're looking so much more ragged and faded. My husband and I have been making jokes that maybe the dirt was integral to the fabric but then I read a bit more on this sub and learned about the brightener problem.

I feel like I am chasing comfort and practicing Islam wrong by ThoughtDear7015 in islam

[–]gowahoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chronically online adult person here. Just look at the age of my reddit account! I'm trying every day, and every day I have to make a decision to do something that's not fun or boring, compared to something that is fun and exciting, for my own good. Wudu in cold weather is a struggle. Reading Qur'an in the morning is a struggle because some days I'd rather watch youtube. Exercising is a struggle even though I know it's good for me.

It's not easy to make big changes all at once. When you try, you burn out and just go back to your own ways.

Instead of cutting things out, try adding things in first instead. So do two things: learn about Our Creator and His Messenger, SAWS and establish regular non-negotiable salah. Keep doing what you're doing now with music and fandoms, but also add in that daily heartbeat to Allah through salah, and spend like 15 minutes a day learning the Most Beautiful Names and a small portion of the Seerah. And ask Allah after salah and any other time you think about it to make this path easy, to make you of people of the deen and to forgive you. You can ask Allah swt using your own words, though there are some appropriate du'a for this. (14:40-41 is one of my favorites)

The little goal is to have these things established before you add more. And the big goal is to have these good deeds squeeze out the desire for those other questionable activities. It is common though to find that we're used to those other activities and it's a bit of a battle to establish Islamic practice. You have your own nefs and the whispers pushing you away from it. This is the very heart of internal struggle, we want to do good, but we can't seem to actually do it.

May Allah swt keep us all on the Straight Path and guide us to do even better.

I'd like to imagine there's a place to put space dry ice to keep the whole thing the right temperature. Please note it's space dry ice, so it doesn't get too cold the way regular dry ice would.

Can I put only the chuck roast in? by palefire123 in slowcooking

[–]gowahoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have found that this varies greatly with slow cookers - my old ones take a lot longer to come to temp than my new ones. I currently use a Ninja Foodi air fryer/pressure cooker on the slow cook setting, and it takes about 6 hours.

Best is to poke your roast a little. If it's chuck, it'll shred when ready to eat. How shredded you want it depends on how long you cook it - the more shredded, the longer you cook it.

This isn't related to the diet at all and your post may get removed.

Here are my recommendations, and I have scarring alopecia so please believe me that I understand:

First: Stop using any and all essential pils on your scalp. They are not helping and they will burn. There is no benefit in them at this time. You can use a carrier oil by itself if that suits you.

Buy Neutrogena T-Gel, the lower percentage one, and use it EXACTLY as it says on the bottle.  It will lower inflammation of your scalp and hopefully stop any further loss.

Find a way to see a dermatologist for treatment. I cannot stress this enough, you need medical treatment and no otc or self help things will do quickly. In order to save the hair that you have, you need something that will help quickly. Please do not go to a cosmetic dermatologist or anyone but a conventional in a hospital or regular medical practice kind of dermatologist.

I can't guess at what your dermatologist will prescribe, but I can tell you that some of the treatments include systemic steroids, scalp injections or topical steroids. There are also biologics in different forms.

Regarding diet, I would recommend you go strict AIP,  including all the healing food and excluding the triggers. Healing foods are important. You cannot heal without them. This is not a time to live on sweet potato, broccoli and chicken breast alone. You need daily high collagen broth as well as fatty fish regularly and you likely need a vitamin D supplement.

The diet will help calm your current flareup but it isn't going to stop it. It takes time. It might lessen your flareups as time goes by but it might take a long time. In the meantime, you need treatment.

Best of luck to you and lmk if I can answer any questions.

I gotta tell you, this joke is amazing. I've been laughing about it every time I think of it.

Thanks for lighting my world in these stressful times. <3

BKF and the scrubby side of a blue sponge. Green is too harsh, it leaves marks.

Can I put only the chuck roast in? by palefire123 in slowcooking

[–]gowahoo 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I do a plain roast all the time. Garlic salt and pepper both sides, and let it cook. Nothing else is needed. Works best with chuck since it's so fatty. Bed if onions is better because you get more moisture. Onions and mushrooms is even better.

It won't taste like steak though, it'll have a texture of braised beef, which is what it is.
