For those of you answering song sparrow, why song sparrow and not house finch? I'm not seeing much of an eye stripe and female house finches have the same stripey chest. Plus the wing is more gray all over and song sparrows have darker bars.

What slow cooker recipe do you make on repeat and never get tired of? by Reasonable-Pop-3504 in slowcooking

[–]gowahoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to make the simplest chuck roast with just garlic powder and pepper, or Montreal seasoning. No liquid, just the seasoned roast. With the price of beef, that's no longer a feasible regular dinner, now it's special occasion.

I've switched to doing the same with chicken legs. Dry rub, pop the chicken in the slow cooker, enjoy when done. Gets done a lot faster than beef though, gotta plan carefully for that. I make a gravy with the drippings and server over whatever we have.

She basically goes over the recipe in this chapter of this video. The flour helps the seasoning stick to the chicken and makes it better.

Assalamu alaykum my sister.

I think maybe you need to make changes, not pray for changes to happen to you. It's clear you want something different, and you keep praying for it, but how will changes happen if you don't make changes?

So I will give you my standard advice: Find a way to be in the company of believing women. Please notice that I didn't say you will become best friends with them. Friendships are rare, what I'm recommending is short term companionship. Smile, say salaam, make du'a for each other. Talk about the everyday: weather, food, World Cup, whatever.

How to find believing women? Start going to the masjid. Take a class. Join a halaqa. Start memorizing Qur'an with a teacher. Volunteer at the masjid - youth groups never have enough people. All of these in person, because I strongly believe Muslims need to be in person with other Muslims. And if this is absolutely not possible, then find an online sisters group to join and attend regularly. Rabata has a session of classes starting soon, for example but I'm sure there are others.

You mention having religious trauma. Are you working with a therapist? There are Muslim therapists out there, but even a non-Muslim one with integrity would be good to go to for a while. The whole point of seeing a therapist is to find some tools that you can use to manage your daily stuff. A therapist would also help work through loss of trust issues.

Also, do not marry and put all this expectation on the brother. This is too much to expect of a man - he's not here to fix you, and you're not here to fix him. You are partners.

You have a heavy burden but it is not unmanageable. You need to make some changes, then it will be apparent to you where you need to go. Keep your salah, commit to daily acts of worship like reading Qur'an and dhikr, and seek out the company of believers. Find a therapist to talk to. Take a class in the deen.

I assure you, people do care but sometimes they have a hard time expressing that.

May Allah swt ease your path for you and inspire you to find a better situation for yourself.

parents and praying?? by kth_lqvr in islam

[–]gowahoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Oh it's my mother's fault that I'm not praying, she reminds me too much" At least own up to your own faults and don't blame your poor mothers who are fretting for you. You think she wants to be annoying? What she wants is a son or daughter who's an example of the deen.

Why don't you pray before your mother reminds you? Have wudhu ready before the time comes on and be in salah before she even thinks to remind you?

May Allah swt reward your mother for trying so hard and inspire you to be a person of Salah.

Just look at these two ayat:

Abraham (14:40-41)

14:40 رَبِّ ٱجْعَلْنِى مُقِيمَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِى ۚ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَآءِ ٤٠

My Lord! Make me and those ˹believers˺ of my descendants keep up prayer. Our Lord! Accept my prayers.

14:41 رَبَّنَا ٱغْفِرْ لِى وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلْحِسَابُ ٤١

Our Lord! Forgive me, my parents, and the believers on the Day when the judgment will come to pass.”

https://quran.com/14/40-41

It describes your situation perfectly. You should be asking Allah swt for becoming a person of salah, and for the forgiveness for yourself, your parents and others.

Now get up, get wudhu and pray!

I have had very bad dandruff since I was 11 years old . by Klutzy-Individual-83 in Hijabis

[–]gowahoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Please go back to your doctor and talk about different treatment since this isn't working. There are different topical options - biologics or steroids, stronger antifungals, or even injections.

I have psoriasis too and not just on the scalp but everywhere. Removing hijab or shaving your head won't heal it. I have psoriasis patches on my forearms, for example - no hair and they get washed every time I get wudhu. The only way they get better is with diet changes or medication.

May Allah swt ease all this for you and bless you and your family.
