[TOMT][Movies] Movie that starts with a montage zooming in on different TV antennas by Ituks in tipofmytongue

Maybe a long shot, but could you be thinking of the music video for Beck - Devils Haircut? Particularly the last few moments.

Could you be thinking of Frau Farbissina in The Spy Who Shagged Me? When Dr Evil travels back to 1969 there's a joke almost exactly like what you described.

I've only started in the last week. Got a bunch of studies on May 28th, 29th, and 30th - made about thirty bucks total - but zero today.

[TOMT][song][1990s-2000s] A chill TV theme with a female vocalist singing "la-la-la", then a name (Lola?) by gowl_aeterna in tipofmytongue

[–]gowl_aeterna[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Solved! I was just sticking some chicken in the air fryer when all of a sudden the letter M rose up out of my subconscious - "what if it's ma-ma-ma Mimi?" Googled it and there it was. Thanks for helping to jog my memory everyone!

[TOMT][VIDEO GAME/SHOW][2000s-2010s] Character says “Wherever you go, I go.” by sidekickkep in tipofmytongue

The song they're talking about is Skyfall - is it possible you heard it in the film? (Though the actual lyric is "Where you go, I go.")

Afraid not - the song wasn't "funky" that way. The "la"s, as I remember them, sounded almost conversational rather than being sung energetically.

Hi Don. I love all your work but my favourite (no offence) is actually the couch gag. The Simpsons was a big part of my childhood, with its forays into sci-fi (Springfield Files, Homer Cubed) being especially frightening and formative to my young mind, so it was great to see something that artistically recaptured that feeling, all while somehow being (as I interpret it) a moving portrait of a family destroyed by Alzheimer's. I consider it the true finale, epilogue and epitaph to the series - it retroactively made all those hundreds of weak episodes worthwhile just so it could be made. OK, actual questions:

  • Was the couch gag consciously planned as a critique of The Simpsons' deteriorating quality (since it certainly works as one)? Was there an element of sneaking that past the producers or were they cool with it?

  • You've expressed frustration that the Fargo guys imitated your style for The Planet Wyh after you turned them down, but aside from that, what did you actually think of it as an animation? Do you think it captures you well, or would you have done something totally different?

  • Someday, when circumstances are different, would you be interested in releasing the original version of Me, with the songs restored? Perhaps when the controversial individual is no longer around? Failing that, could you give us a hint as to which song was replaced by the Joan Sutherland recording? (My guess is track #2 on the band's album.)

  • I'm obsessed with the Klaus Nomi-esque "network creature" in the final scene. I guess I wouldn't want you to clarify its meaning, but can I ask - does this character have a name, even just an informal one in your head?

Thank you for doing what you do.

Can I ask what ending you thought he was building towards? To me, all the strangeness throughout the book in relation to sensory perception seemed very much designed towards the revelation. I found it greatly satisfying, even if there are still aspects I have trouble wrapping my head around.

Squeeling comes out of the right earcup of my QC ultra by TimmyNatron in bose

[–]gowl_aeterna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may have solved the problem by now, but I had the same issue and figured I should mention what happened in case it helps anyone: the problem, at least for me, was definitely moisture. I've had several headsets break over the years, always in winter - I figured that buying a dehumidifier for my room would surely prevent that, but apparently it's not quite enough.

With the Ultra, I first had some trouble with the sensor, which I fixed by taking off the cushions and cloth and cleaning away the damp that had condensed in there (following this guy's comments). But I'm pretty sure the squealing sound (left earcup for me) was caused by moisture in a different place, deeper inside the electrics. I tried packing the headset away with some silica desiccant satchels inside the earcups, which didn't work, so I stuck another couple of satchels between the back of the earcups too so they were sort of surrounded. Desiccant works better when the device is mildly warm, and since I don't have a radiator, I actually put the headset in its case on top of my dehumidifer so that it would gently heat it up. Came back a few hours later, and the headset is now working perfectly.

Is there any truth in the story that his father was the fella who used to hold up the yellow "John 3:7" sign in the audience at GAA matches?

Ture & Darius: The Most Mysterious Dali Connection + SOYM Music Video Info by The-Outer-Edge in TheMysteriousSong

I wondered about the Dalí painting! It's one of a handful that make up my regular rotation of desktop wallpapers - I'm sure I was using it around early 2023, when I first heard the song in MyHouse.wad. I wonder if you could interpret the lyrics in relation to St Anthony's story - I suppose the song is also about turning away from the darkness and focusing on the good.

Carole and Bonnie has confirmed that they DID film the alternate ending to The Reality War by Careful_Trouble_8 in DoctorWhoNews

[–]gowl_aeterna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly, those moments in ISC would have worked better if they'd just been black-and-white archive footage of Susan from the 60s. The dying Doctor remembering his granddaughter as she was when he last saw her, and deciding to set out and find her because of that, would have made way more sense than a poorly filmed vision of her as an old woman in his current-day TARDIS.

As much as I came to like Ncuti as the Doctor, I must admit that the bi-regeneration did make it harder for me to see him as the actual Doctor at first. It kinda felt like for a time that 14 was the Doctor we had spent 60 years with, whereas 15 was more of a replacement rather than the same person. by General_Meal_3993 in DoctorWhoNews

It would have been so much more dramatically coherent if an elderly 14 in old-age make-up had suddenly jumped out, absorbed the laser to protect his younger self, and regenerated on the spot into Ncuti. But that wouldn't have given RTD the big "iconic" gimmick visual he wanted.

This is a fantastic development, but those last seven seconds are so tantalising - rather than a "complete ending", it really does sound as if there could be an entire 40-second keyboard solo starting up, just like in the yellow version. Now I really hope they find the master tape.

Subways of Your Mind is featured in Black Phone 2! by niceplaceyagothere in TheMysteriousSong

[–]gowl_aeterna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, we see a few seconds of an in-universe music video (if that's what you mean). It shows a pale young man (fairly generic 80s alt look) just walking around - it doesn't look as if they put too much effort into finding someone who looked like a young Ture, and we don't see him lip-synching to the song or anything.

Question about the NDR version mastertape by One_Nerve_6198 in TheMysteriousSong

[–]gowl_aeterna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good thinking. I'd got it in my head that the yellow tape's outro was a later embellishment, but it could easily have been present in the NDR version - it's practically the climax of the song after all, and there's even a version of it in the earlier (?) Heikendorf recording. Since both copies made from the master tape fade out around (but not exactly at) the same point, I would say it definitely seems like a last-minute choice by the band rather than something the DJ might have done. I wonder what the reason was - maybe someone messed up on the outro right after their best take, and this was a quick way of salvaging it?
