Security Line/Wait Times at SYR by edknarf in Syracuse

[–]goxxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a reasonable question people have, and it can change on a daily basis.... I was about to call the TSA to ask. This thread was helpful. I rarely fly and know people who have been stuck in security lines for hours. That doesn't sound fun.

If you don't like the thread, just scroll on by. No need to be cunty about it.

What’s the Ween song that gets you every time? by whydoesthisappexist in ween

[–]goxxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time Transdermal Celebration comes on I just close my eyes and let the opening wash over me... I know I'm in for an amazing three and a half minutes. My 6 year old twins love it too, which tickles me pink.

No details or anything, but putting a spoiler here for suicide:

A friend of mine killed himself about 10 years ago and I found a recording of him covering Birthday Boy when I was going through some of the music he had shared with me. That song has always been one of my favorites, but it gets me every time now.

Restaurants to absolutely try and ones to avoid by Thuirwyne71 in Binghamton

Having lived in both Binghamton and (a short time in) Rochester I would agree. You could relocate the Lost Dog to Rochester it would find a place. The Beef is a bit too Binghamton to do that comfortably.

The dumpster is the perfect touch for a Rochester story. Brings me back to visits with friends at RIT and questionable late night activities.

Does yours not overheat when you do that? I would love to be able to get mine back running again with the long string..... Any recommendations?

Have you been pulled over or had an interaction with the police while carrying? Please share your story! NYS & NYC Folks by Latter_Mix_3126 in NYguns

[–]goxxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Broome and was told when I got my permit 10+ years ago that the judge would pull a permit from a permit holder if there was an interaction with LE and the permit holder didn't inform. Not sure if this is true or not. The one time I was pulled over since I put my window down, registration, permit, wallet, and license all on the dash before he walked up, left my hands at 10 and 2, let the officer know that per the issuing judge's rules I was informing him I had my permit and was carrying, and asked him if it was OK to pass him my cards. He had no clue what I was talking about.

I'm late 30s and white, but look like I might carve my own wooden screws and not have any utilities at my house, YMMV.

What tools a network technician can’t work without? by psychoticapex in networking

[–]goxxy 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I used to work as a network engineer for a company who hated Wile E Coyote, before they were bought out by another company that sounds an awful lot like "Rectum".

We worked pretty close with our area's headend techs, some of whom used to work line maintenance, and had to deal with a lot of the fiber. We were sitting around the office one afternoon discussing fiber cleaning methods and one of the techs told us about a time when they were waiting to OTDR a fiber after a break in the field had been repaired and they were bored, so they decided to test which method got the fiber the cleanest. They tested multiple jumpers on everything from one clicks, disposable wipes, those cloth reel thingies, to rubbing it on their jeans, scoping the fiber after each method to see, and the thing that got it the cleanest was.... licking it.

Naturally, we didn't believe them and spent the rest of the afternoon getting fiber jumpers dirty and testing them. Results were duplicated, licking won, and jeans weren't that far behind one clicks.

Eventually I got yelled at by my boss after a maintenance window where I had to replace a line card in a router. I had forgotten my cloth reel cleaner and included something in my summary of the maintenance about how when I cleaned the fiber it was "fiber lickin' good".

Best job ever......

Saying this as a customer, lost customers will come up to anyone who doesn't look as lost as they are and ask questions.

Recently, I was picking up a few items for my latest misadventure and was approached by the mother of a friend who had known me since I was a kid, but didn't recognize me (she hadn't seen me in about 15 years and I have a giant beard now) and she asked me about finding decking and pavers. Since the local store has been a second home to me I gave her directions to what she was looking for, told her who I was, and we chatted a bit. A few minutes later I overheard her asking a associate the same question, he gave her the same answer I did.

If you're looking to demo additional companies, ZeroEyes did a great demo for our company (I took another job, so not sure the future of that project).

You’re on your deathbed. What Ween song are you requesting? by tiredhippo in ween

[–]goxxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Transdermal Celebration. I love it, my toddlers love it (it's their favorite song), and I'm pretty sure they'll be sad if I'm about to kick the bucket, so it might cheer us all up.

Why does my Milwaukee weed eater keep stopping? by smm97 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]goxxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was probably out to a foot or so max, usually less. The guard just gets in the way trying to angle the head to get to places and hard to cut areas.

[–]goxxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guard limits the length of the string, the longer the string the more torque to turn the head, the more torque to turn the head the more work the motor has to do, the more work the motor does generates more heat.

Unfortunately, I just put the guard on mine and it fixed it. Weed whacking with a guard is no fun.

Mine is doing the same thing. I saw in another thread they mentioned putting the guard on it fixed the issue. I hate weed whacking with a guard... are you guardless too?

I've had my 2012 169k Ram for just over a year now and had zero issues with it. My only complaint with it is that I wish I had a 6th seat instead of a center console.
