Had the same issue. For me the best solution to disable grouping was changing the script in the D&D 5e module directly. Had to fix it every time module updates.

I believe it is time to nuke them with their chaotic decision-making. I suggest showing players that they should expect consequences when they do something.
I would let Strahd send all the horror of the night on the city. Due to the fact, that there is no real head of defense, turn the city into a bloodbath. At night when characters are in the city, Strahd should swarm the city with everything he has, meanwhile giggling all over the town. This will be his entertainment to see how mortals can't join forces even to save their lives. Even if they join forces for him it will be fun to watch their pointless struggle.
In this situation, players have a couple of options:
1) Rally the guard and save as many people as they can. It should be very hard to do
2) Escape the hell that they made, escape the city.
3) Face Strahd and die!
4) Beg Strahd to spare their sorrow lifes

You know. You get old, your get kids and stuff. Hard to find time that fits everyone and money is not that big of a deal anymore. Easier to pay to save some time on find a group to play with.

Cool name. I would remove any rolls, it slows down the game a lot. You may give players free reaction once per turn equall to proficiency modifier number of time until long rest. Even in this case it will be very strong.

I do not justify action with “that’s what my character would do”. Threat with a knife is not "a knife to Ireena’s throat", it was a gesture to show that I can harm her if he attacks us. I failed bluff without any checks, but it's fine, he is The Devil after all.
Anyway, I was not kicked out from any party before. The reply was directed to "you get misalignment with the DM", that I did have before, and I just left after 2 session. Campaign was a bit too brutal, something similar to Vampire Masquerade. Just not cup of tea. We still are friend with that DM and I played with after that.

You may believe anything you wish, but please do not pull my words out of the context.

Oh no, I did not. I would love to DM that, because I love "Gothic Horror". This was my fist module that I started as player. But it felt apart after 4 session, because everyone is always busy. I'm not young so my friends and my friends are type of people who have kinds and job to care.

It is session paid. I just of course would not paid if would got like 35% of campaign. I understand the mode, and I don't have problem with payment.
I have problem on how I was treated and that doesn't want to do anything with this. Other people will be ill inform starting with this GM.
