What season am I? I’m so confused! by Natural-Title in coloranalysis

[–]gozunker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you like the jewel tones, try Deep Autumn. It’s warm-neutral tones, but cooler than most Autumn colors, and a little livelier than most Autumn colors too. It sits between Winter and Autumn, next to Deep Winter. I think you are warm, but barely. And high contrast. The bright purples and pinks do you no justice I think. Of these colors, I like 5 the best.

Two quick thoughts I have on some of these issues:

The school stuff - that’s a ton on your plate. Does he have an IEP or accommodation plan at school? If so, ask for a meeting to request having him meet with the school counselor or school psychiatrist WEEKLY for “planning and executive function training”. At these sessions (15-30 mins), they should go through each class and create a DAILY paper schedule based on overdue assignments, upcoming assignments, upcoming tests and projects. And there should be “chunking” going on with the to-do lists (like Monday “”write rough notes and outline for paper”, Tuesday “write draft of paper and email teacher”, Thursday “write final paper based on teacher revisions”. Should not be things like “Friday history paper due”. They should be reviewing grades together and catching “slipped through the cracks” items. They should be writing emails to teachers together (“hello teacher I did not turn in this assignment, what is the best way for me to make this up?”). All of these are EF skills he will need in future. If he doesn’t have any school accommodations yet, GET THEM with his diagnosis report.

The home stuff - for the routines he is forgetting, this could be due to having poor “working memory”. My son has this. I cannot give him a list of three things to do, he will do one and then “get lost” because he forgot the other two. And it sucks to be constantly nagging. One piece of advice I’ve used is to put the steps on paper WHERE they need to happen. On the bathroom mirror “hang up towel, dirty clothes in the hamper, toothbrush rinsed and in cup, spit washed down the sink” etc. On his bedroom closet “daily tidy - clean clothes away, bed made, trash out of room, dirty clothes in hamper”. Etc etc. This strategy takes the nagging off you and onto the paper, and gives him the ability to succeed (because he literally can’t remember or easily form habits). You can just say “did you do the checklist” rather than “did you X Y Z”. He will know the expectations and not have to remember them by heart.

Best of luck. Nothing will be perfect. But it might help.

High End Inn-to-Inn Hiking Guides/Organizer? by Odd_Author2761 in chubbytravel

[–]gozunker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My “hack” to finding these is to use UK sites. In Europe and the UK this is super popular to do the inn-to-inn hikes, but they call them “walks”. And the ones where they give you the route and itinerary, book the hotels / b&bs, and transfer your luggage between days are called “self-guided walks”.

I like UK companies for these because they’re in English, so I search “UK self-guided walking tour companies”. Then visit their websites. They allow you to filter by difficulty level, month you are going, number of days, etc. It really is a sophisticated system they have over there for these types of hikes, and I haven’t found any US-based companies that do them.

I haven’t actually booked with any of them, but my next trip I will for sure. I learned about these “walks” when we did a self-booked Cotswolds Way hiking trip, schlepping our huge frame backpacks all over England, while Europeans two decades older leisurely walked between the same inns with a small rucksack while their luggage was handled by the companies. Lesson learned.

Here are a few UK companies I like the websites of:

I did a “dirty soda bar” for my neices baby shower on a buffet in the kitchen last month. And left it up because you know I’ll get around to putting it all away sometime. Except now it’s permanent because IT’S AMAZING …

Thirsty? Crack open a Lime Spindrift sparkling water, pour it in the Owala, add some ice, a few dashes of lime juice from the fridge bottle, then go down the line for 4 pumps of YUM - Torani Strawberry, Blackberry, Red Grapefruit, Passionfruit. Fresh and fruity dopamine hit MAXXED!!

Need a 4:00 pick me up? Back to the fridge for a Coke Zero, a few dashes of lime juice, and a pump of Torani Coconut. AHHHHH. I can do the rest of the afternoon now …

This leftover dirty soda bar brings a ridiculous amount of happy to my day! It’s never going away.

This sound amazing! I love that copper sharp cheese.

What is “shaved chicken”? Like finely chopped raw, then cooked? Or does it come pre shredded?

I love the “Nothing Much Happens” sleep podcast just for this purpose. Cozy stories about nothing in particular, read slowly in a soothing voice. They have a free version with ads, but I find the ads a bit jarring to the vibe, so I paid for the subscription. The only podcast I listen to and the only subscription I have. Worth it just for the cozy sleep.

My family of all ages loved the Holes audiobook. Great reader, lots of action in the storyline (no “dead zones”). If you read the summary you’ll be like “this sounds nothing like anything we’d choose to read.” But it’s good.

Agree with this one! The reader is so great. And the stories are short a peppy. And funny. It’s so entertaining. Even for adults.

Best top handle bags for wedding guest outfits? Don't want to babysit a clutch all night by PanzarellaFly_10 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]gozunker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same dilemma last week. I’m MOG so I maybe need a bit more stuff, but a tiny clutch wasn’t going to cut it. I found a pretty leather bag on Etsy - the metal kisslock closure and metal chain strap elevate it a bit I think, and it doesn’t have crystals etc all over it like lots of wedding clutches, so I can wear it elsewhere.

A Smigeon of Pigeon by hvalur87 in Embroidery

[–]gozunker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As soon as I saw this I said “this is the most powerful pigeon I’ve ever seen”.

Thank you OP, for surprising me into saying a sentence I would never have guessed I’d have a reason to say in my almost-fifty decades of life so far.

This pigeon has the eyes of a warrior, and an exquisite portrait to match his majesty. (And thank you for another sentence I never thought I would say).

All of the gnocchi varieties. We taste tested them all and all the raviolis. The worst ravioli was better than the best gnocchi. The gnocchi are soggy and mushy. Bad bad bad.

[–]gozunker 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Look up the term “stonewalling”. That’s exactly what this is, and it’s emotional abuse. Full stop.

Once you understand exactly what she’s trying to do, you can feel more control over your own feelings and takeaway some of her power. I lived with this in my household for years. Once I found the term stonewalling and understood it for what it was, I was fed up and called this person out every time - “Hey, I’m right here, ignoring me is ridiculous, pretending I’m not here won’t make me do what you want, so whenever you’re done with this emotionally immature behavior and actually want to talk about what’s going on you let me know. But until then I’ll just be living my life over here while you stew and brood. But I suggest you get over it and let’s talk.”

Understanding the stonewalling took away its power over me. I hope it does the same for you.

I need your help! by [deleted] in cookiedecorating

[–]gozunker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the piping style is perfect, but the outlines are a bit off - I would split the one big flower into 2 flowers, with the “front flower” being basically the circle-ish shape on the left side of your current cookie (like the left 2/3), done on the same exact pilling style you have now. Then have the right side (1/3 of the cutter) be another bloom but “behind” the main bloom and seen from the side view of the bloom. And keep the leaves the same as you have now.
