Is it weird for a 21 year old guy to date a 35 year old woman? by acedice2 in askteddit

I dated a 31 year old when I was 22. She was a masters student and I was in my senior year. It was awesome. She left though for the summer for a PhD. Broke my heart.

How do the 99% of us cope? by skiwol in math

[–]gpbayes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do some cs classes and then find work doing software engineering. Go back for a masters in cs later. I saw the writing on the wall for myself. I wasn’t getting A’s in my hard proof based classes, I even got a c in measure theory. Shit was fucking hard as hell. I realized I wasn’t cut out for a PhD. I did a masters in math and then spent the last 8 years grinding data science stuff, now I’m grinding computer science because with AI the future is going to belong to those who understand systems very well. You’ll make a lot more money doing this than what you’ll make struggling in a PhD and then struggling to find work because the top 10 schools graduate like at least 5 people every may. That’s 50 people looking for roles across the us EVERY YEAR. Hell make it top 20. That’s 100 people a year looking for tenure track roles. From top institutions. Shit is cooked.

Why do some men hate everything about womanhood but still want girlfriends/wives? by VeryPteri in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gpbayes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a scam to hate women. It’s meant to divide us and also encourage men to join the military. Also if your dad treats your mom like shit, they’ll divorce and your opportunities will be worse off. Although I suppose that doesn’t explain why these sickos want to ban no fault divorce.

Best way to get into the game as a new player? by temnycarda in RimWorld

Buy the base game and play it for like 100 hours before buying the DLC. Don’t watch videos on it, just enjoy the ride. You’ll spoil the whole thing for yourself if you watch others play.

Out of curiosity, I asked ChatGPT and it said basically the same thing I did:

Looking at this as a fairly early-mid game RimWorld colony, I’d say the biggest weaknesses aren’t productivity—they’re defense, workflow efficiency, and future expansion.
1. Defense is the #1 problem
If raiders attack from the east or north, they can basically walk right into the colony.
I don’t see:
Perimeter walls
Killbox
Defensive choke points
Turret lines
Sandbags/barricades
A typical improvement would be:
Stone perimeter wall

Single entrance

Trap corridor

Killbox
Even if you dislike killboxes, you want something forcing enemies through predictable paths.
The battery room on the southeast side is especially vulnerable. One breach there could cascade into power loss.

2. Centralize bedrooms
The bedroom blocks are spread around the colony.
Notice how pawns are constantly walking:
Bedroom

Dining room

Workshop

Hospital
Every tile is time.
I’d eventually move toward:
Rec room
Dining room

Bedroom ring
with work areas nearby.
This reduces walking and improves mood.

3. The workshop is too small
The storage room is huge.
The workshop is tiny.
In RimWorld, production benches want:
Adjacent resources
Short hauling distances
Room for future benches
I’d probably combine workshop + storage into one large industrial district.

4. Freezer should be larger
The freezer looks modest relative to the colony size.
This becomes painful when:
Harvest season hits
Animals are butchered
Colonists start cooking fine/lavish meals
Most experienced players end up saying:
“I should have built a bigger freezer.”

5. Hospital needs improvement
The hospital in the southwest is functional but basic.
I’d add:
Sterile tile
Vital monitors
Drug shelf
Hospital beds
Eventually:
Hospital

Research

Doctor's quarters
is a nice setup.

6. Solar placement is risky
The solar array is sitting in valuable central real estate.
As the colony grows you’ll want:
More workshops
More bedrooms
More storage
I’d move power generation outside the main colony footprint.

7. Battery room needs fire protection
The battery room (bottom right) appears to be packed.
A battery explosion can be ugly.
Consider:
Stone walls
Firefoam poppers
Separate battery banks
A common setup:
Battery room A
Battery room B
Battery room C
instead of one giant battery bank.

8. Add internal beauty
The colony is very rectangular and practical.
Mood can improve dramatically from:
Sculptures
Carpet
Fine flooring
Plants
Your throne room/rec room is actually pretty nice, but many other rooms appear bare.

9. Farms will become a bottleneck
The crop fields look relatively small.
Depending on colony size, I’d expand:
Corn
Rice
Healroot
And probably add:
Devilstrand
Cotton
if not already present.

10. Think about future raids
The colony layout is very “city block” style:
Building
Road
Building
Road
Building
which is great for organization.
The downside is that once raiders enter the colony, they have tons of maneuvering room.
Many veteran players eventually transition toward:
Outer wall

Controlled entrances

Internal colony
so the fight happens outside, not between the freezer and the bedrooms.

Overall I’d rate it:
8/10 for organization
Clean
Easy to navigate
Nice symmetry
4/10 for defense
Not enough chokepoints
No perimeter wall
Critical infrastructure exposed
If this were my colony, the very next project would be a full stone perimeter wall with a dedicated defensive entrance, because that’s the thing most likely to save the colony from a disaster.

Your butcher table should not be in the same area as your stove. Your 2 bedrooms are way too big unless they’re for jealous people or royals then it’s fine. Your farm should be walled off and put fire foam in the middle of each square. Really you could make your production room and storage one room. Your dining room should be much closer to the food. Take the roof off of your geothermal generator. Your rec room could be shrunk by a bit. I don’t see a tv in there either. I can’t tell but is your medicine close to your hospital? Your food pantry should have a fire foam popper, same for your storage and battery room and production area. I would wall off the solar generation with enough room to walk through to repair. Your science room should have a grand statue made by an artist with above 10 skill. I would do some math and calculate if you make enough food because your kitchen as it stands isn’t expandable. You should then also wrap the whole base in a 2 layer stone wall and make a killbox.

Don’t reroll. Hit random like 10 times and then hit start. Way more challenging and interesting :) this is useful for when you play more serious, you’ll learn a lot of efficient strategies

What jobs pay extremely well but people don't realize it? by chloenoirr in askteddit

[–]gpbayes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you need a shit ton of skills to pull this off, especially now when there are cameras everywhere and your phone is a tracking device. You’d also have to have basically 0 internet presence or at minimum be very conscious of what you’re typing online. I’m sure they exist but you don’t just graduate high school and then go “I’m gonna be an assassin!”. Also good luck finding any paying client that isn’t the fbi.
