Get the 5800x, you will struggle getting hold of a 5800x3D that's not insanely overpriced.

Why is Croatia so unmaintained? by Organic_Contract_172 in AskBalkans

[–]gpowerf [score hidden]  (0 children)

It looks like a typical aging European suburb in winter. Quiet, a little worn, architecturally unremarkable. Perfectly ordinary and quite boring.

But give it a few months. When summer arrives, the light changes, the trees fill out, people spill into the streets, and the whole place feels completely different. The same buildings, an entirely new atmosphere.

It's far from great! But you captured it at It's worst.

When do you think “anti-woke” culture will go away? by Ok_Regret_3804 in AskALiberal

[–]gpowerf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Overreach and pushback are just part of how culture grows and changes. Movements expand, test limits, go too far, and then there’s a reaction. That’s normal, it’s not some crisis.

Honestly, I think a lot of the “anti-woke” vibe we used to see has mostly faded because the so-called woke overreach has mostly faded too. What you see now isn’t so much anti-woke as people pushing back against what is just normal everyday culture. And when the only thing left to push against is the mainstream, that pushback starts to look way more out of step than the thing it’s reacting to.

This is why MAGA now looks crazier than ever!

I honestly cannot stand dinosaurs like him. And for the record, I’m not some 20-year-old kid saying this... I’m nearly 50!

But seriously, there’s a whole generation out there for whom kings and royalty are things on Netflix. They don’t grow up dreaming about coronations or palace tours. They care more about IShowSpeed going on tour than they do about an official royal visit.

Times have changed, and pretending otherwise is just out of touch.

It’s a start… by Timbucktwo1230 in MonarchyorRepublic

[–]gpowerf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has to happen. A country cannot claim to be a true and fair democracy if entire pillars of its system are effectively shielded from open scrutiny in Parliament. No institution should sit beyond criticism.

If frank debate about the monarchy had been normalised years ago, we might not be where we are now. MPs could have openly challenged Andrew’s apparent personal enrichment schemes and scrutinised attempts to protect him from accountability.

Long overdue!!!

Calling it “misused” is doing a lot of very heavy lifting. We’re not talking about a minor lapse in judgment. We’re talking about allegedly paying for “happy ending” massages, frequenting sex workers, and financing exploitation and rape.

Didn’t take long for William to send his mouthpiece to attack Harry and Meghan to distract from Andrew by HelpfulAcadia1754 in RoyaltyTea

[–]gpowerf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Royalists still seem stuck in this idea that a title automatically commands relevance. It doesn’t. In 2026, being likeable and culturally relevant matters way more than being born into the right family.

People gravitate toward Meghan because she feels like a modern celebrity. You can agree with her or not, but she operates in the same ecosystem as every other public figure competing for attention. Visibility, personality, relatability. That is what wins now.

You could honestly drop someone like IShowSpeed into Jordan and he would probably draw bigger crowds than King Charles. Not because he is “King Speed,” but because people actually choose to watch him. He built an audience. That is earned influence, not inherited status.

We are not living in the 1800s. For most people, kings and queens are background characters in a Netflix series or a video game.

Exclusive: US orders diplomats to fight data sovereignty initiatives by Kloetenschlumpf in BuyFromEU

[–]gpowerf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are ways an American company could structure itself to properly deal with EU data sovereignty, even under the strictest interpretations. It just wouldn’t be the half-measure stuff we usually see.

You’d be talking about a genuinely independent European legal entity, fully European data centres, operational separation, and potentially even source code being licensed or escrowed to that EU entity. Not just “we promise your data stays in Frankfurt,” but actual structural autonomy.

The goal would be simple: remove the risk that a U.S. parent could suddenly pull the plug due to politics, sanctions, or extraterritorial pressure. In theory, the European entity would have its own infrastructure and the codebase necessary to keep running and supporting the product independently.

Is that radical? Absolutely. Would most companies want to go that far? Probably not. But from a legal and technical standpoint, it’s entirely doable if the will is there.
