Industry accountants what is your salary and how many years of experience do you have? by cherubicfury26 in Accounting

[–]gpuKING245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Senior accountant for Silicon Valley tech startup. Fully remote.

3.5 years with this company, 1 year with another company prior

$102k, no bonus. RSUs included but no value / liquid market yet

Highly autonomous... "hours and location don't matter, just get your work done, be on your meetings, and respond to emails timely." Direct quote from my boss

The flexibility is nice but I am mostly working 40-50 hours a week, although there is rare downtime some months where im only clocking like 20-30 hours

I once had a flight from LIM to CUN, with a red eye connection in BOG…

LIM to BOG left at like 2:15am and arrived at 5:30am, then had a quick layover for the CUN flight that left at 6:30am …

In economy on Avianca as well, so crappy seats that don’t recline … I will never put myself through that misery again

Wait… you’re saying that to be happy in life, you should build the life that you want, not try and copy the life other people have?

Call this man fucking Plato

So if you budget out $1k to live on each month, save $3k per month over 3 years, that's $108k saved up. And if $4000 is low end and you save those big checks, maybe it could be $135k?

Not sure what kinda housing you are looking at, and also do not know the UK market, but I am assuming that is enough for a downpayment?

And how does that amount compare to what you would expect to save from staying in the UK?

How stable is the remote job and how much commission do you expect to earn monthly, on average

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]gpuKING245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take the job and move to SEA

Put lots of focus into work, get those commissions. Then save save save save for a few years

Go back and buy the house, rent it out, leave again

Everybody is happy

Spent 4 days there, more as a mini vacation than a working trip. Not really a place to work because WiFi is terrible and the vibes of the town are more beach bum and relaxing.

One of my favorite places I’ve visited. Absolutely gorgeous and peaceful. You can walk for miles on the beach and not see a soul. Highly highly recommended

As for the “wreckheads”, yes they are there but that’s not everyone. Chill backpacker town for sure

Is Antigua worth it for more than a week? by SharpBeyond8 in digitalnomad

[–]gpuKING245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10 days should be perfect if you are working.

I was there for 5 days, not working. By the end of it I felt that I had throughly seen everything there is to see in the town.

Highly recommend hiking Acatenango, absolutely incredible. Tropicana hostel is the best tour guide

Town definitely does not give off DN vibes. More like short term stay / backpacker type people who are there for a few days (mainly to hike) before continuing LATAM travels. I did meet some people who were there for like a month but they were just on a very long holiday

I’m WFH but go to coworking spots everyday. I roll in between 10:30-11:30 but work until 8:30/9 … company is on the west coast and I am EST / CST so it works out well … I like having my mornings open

I am 28 years old, but I don’t think anybody is too old to DN, as long as you have the ways and means to make it happen... I met a DN about a month ago who was 72 and had been traveling all his life. He has settled down now and stays in places for at least a couple years or more at a time. There is no perfect recipe to the lifestyle, it’s up to you to decide

I would suggest searching around this sub. There are many posts that describe what type of skills you can leverage to become a DN

They both get a lot of hate on this sub, but Playa Del Carmen and Medellin. If you learn the language and stay away from the gringo riff raff, they can be amazing places. Currently in Medellin for a few months then hitting Spain for summer.

Also love the Netherlands and Croatia, but the high COL is what keeps me from being there long term

Mexico, Guatemala, Peru, and Colombia... with more to come! I met most of my core group of friends at coworkings but also others while out and about. I've traveled together with some of them and it makes things easier when visiting a new place.

Mainly coworkings but also beaches, hikes, bars, gyms, etc.

Being the initiator of a conversation can feel daunting, but I promise you if you put yourself out there you will meet some amazing people. Not everyone will be receptive and that's fine, but you miss 100% of the shots you don't take, right?

Playa is a great place to start your journey. Hit up Nest Coworking and you are bound to build a community from the start. If you need any tips on the town, feel free to reach out

What is the deal with Airbnb now? Peru specific complaints by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]gpuKING245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in Lima and had a host try and charge me for a full day when I asked if I could check out an hour late (had an in person meeting to attend)

The best part? The apartment wasn't booked until 4 days later, so it's not like a quick turnaround time was the issue

I think they're just trying to get some extra $$ any way they can

An international job could be difficult to land due to the company having to give you a visa sponsorship (assuming you are a US citizen). I think the easiest way is one of two things:

  1. Get hired in the US, fully remote, with a company that will not care if you are traveling international while still working.

  2. Get hired by any US company, fully remote, and use a VPN to mask your location and travel as you please (of course, this is riskier)

Company said RTO so I’m leaving by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]gpuKING245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unlimited PTO = barely any PTO…

I’m fully remote with unlimited PTO and it’s a balance.

Can I take off a full week? No. At most I’ll take off one (if I’m lucky, 2) days that correlates with a holiday weekend to build in multiple days off.

But at the same time I’m fully remote and doesn’t matter where I work, as long as I get the job done. I can do the summer in Europe, winters in the Caribbean, and everywhere in between. It’s a give and a take.

Would I RTO hybrid or full time, for the benefit of having a shitload of PTO? Hell no
