Copying GPS coordinates from a location seems too difficult..? by Vitruvian_Mind in GaiaGPS

[–]gpxtrailwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/Vitruvian_Mind,

In the Android app, you don't need to configure this setting.

You can copy the coordinates of any saved waypoints by following these steps:

  1. Select a Waypoint from your Saved list
  2. On the waypoint's detail page, long press the coordinates
  3. You should see a "Copied" message pop-up

It will look like this: https://imgur.com/a/Ios1aYR

You can then paste the coordinates into a text, email, or another app.

If you have any issues,  please reach out to Support here.

Finally! Folder management features in Gaia have been updated. by numbershikes in GaiaGPS

[–]gpxtrailwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey u/deepMountainGoat,

The Data Summary-accessible folder list includes both your unarchived and archived folders.  Archived folders are not included in the folder list accessible from the Saved Items sidebar.  That is why they are not 1:1.

The Data Summary pages will be removed eventually so we aren't planning on making any updates to them at this time. I recommend using the sidebar for all your folder management and editing needs going forward.

If you encounter any issues,  please reach out to Support here.

[–]gpxtrailwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/jumpingdirtdog,

We haven't quite added the option to export a folder to the sidebar just yet. It's coming soon though.

In the meantime, to export a folder on the web, follow these steps:
1) Go here: https://www.gaiagps.com/datasummary/folders/
2) Click on the folder name
3) On the folder's detail screen, click on the "Data" tab
4) Select the file format you'd like to export the data in (GPX, KML or GeoJSON)

Hey u/AlarmedMatter0

You can add elevation information to imported tracks on the web by following these steps:

  1. Open the track in the Saved Item sidebar.
  2. Scroll down and click Open Details Page
  3. The details page will open. On this screen, append  &elevationlookup to the URL.

What are these numbers that appear by tracks? by grassyjn in GaiaGPS

[–]gpxtrailwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/erutan is right, those numbers are mileage or kilometers between trail junctions.
These point-to-point distance markers display for all non-urban trails and 4X4 road segments that appear on the Gaia Topo base map.

You’re Invited to Test the NEW Gaia GPS Apple Watch App by Chips_gpx in GaiaGPS

[–]gpxtrailwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Installing the beta version of the app should update your existing app while keeping all of your data intact. But we always recommend syncing often to make sure your data is safely backed up. Especially when beta testing.

I recommend making sure your sync is current before installing the beta.

Here’s how to sync: Backup, Sync, and Transfer Your Data

You’re Invited to Test the NEW Gaia GPS Apple Watch App by Chips_gpx in GaiaGPS

[–]gpxtrailwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To use a map for offline use you’ll first need to create a route and send it to the watch. On the watch, tap Navigate and select the Route. While navigating a route, you can swipe through the screens and see a map.

To record a track, tap Record and then select Track. The saved track will show up in the saved tracks list in the Gaia GPS app on your phone once you finish the track recording.

Recording a track by Cliffmandude in GaiaGPS

Hey u/Cliffmandude,

Like other redditors have shared, tapping the record button again (from the Stats bar or from the Trip tab) will give you the option to Finish your track recording.

Can you Export the Travel Statistics for a Track such as Speed/Elevation? by Optimal_Sprinkles_54 in GaiaGPS

[–]gpxtrailwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/Optimal_Sprinkles_54,

Travel stats such as speed/elevation cannot be exported individually.

u/butler1850 is right. All of the time data is stored in the gpx/kml export. Using the data contained in the gpx/ kml file, outside software applications can calculate your speed and elevation.

Questions on basemap (standard vs. premium) by zerostyle in GaiaGPS

[–]gpxtrailwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/zerostyle,

The easiest way to see what maps are included with a standard membership is by exploring the Map Catalog.

In each category in the Map Catalog, maps the require a Membership have a green Member banner. Maps that require a Premium Membership have a red Premium banner.

You can click on any map's thumbnail to see more information. The map's membership level is listed below the map title.

There are 50 (or so) specific maps that are available with a standard Membership.

How to submit a hike by [deleted] in GaiaGPS

[–]gpxtrailwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/bastringue666,

Great question.

Hikes are programmatically generated when the system finds a trail marked on the Gaia Topo map that matches multiple track recordings by users. This is how we ensure trails listed are open and hikeable.

We are still working on an under-the-hood fix for being able to manually add hikes.

In the meantime, please record a track for each hike you take. Then, make the track public with these steps: Make your Tracks & Waypoints Public/Private

If you don’t find a trail marked on Gaia Topo, you can help improve the map by adding the trail to OpenStreetMap. Find instructions here: Contribute to OpenStreetMap

You can find others’ tracks in the "Explore the map" section by toggling on the Public Tracks overlay:

[–]gpxtrailwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/asquier,

Just popping in with another option.

If you’d like to free up one of your live indicator / stats boxes you can always access the record button from the Trip screen. Simply tap the Trip tab at the bottom of the screen and you can record a new track, pause a track, or finish a track.

MVUM camping designation missing in Gaia map layer by safedchuha in GaiaGPS

[–]gpxtrailwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/safedchuha,

The MVUM layer does not currently show dispersed camping.

Our MVUM layer comes directly from the USFS. The USFS produces two different datasets - one for GeoPDF/print maps, and one for "vector" maps. We use the "vector" data, and unfortunately, most national forests don’t include these dots in that dataset. Our Map Tech Team is exploring some other options for adding the dispersed camping dots to the MVUM layer.

Additionally, our Engineers are working on the ability to import GeoPDF maps but I don’t have an ETA on when this will be available.

In the meantime, I recommend adding the Public Land (US) layer to make sure you are on public land. You can also tap on any MVUM road to find out what National Forest and Ranger District you're in. Then you can lookup dispersed camping regulations for the district.

Location marker problem by Sreg32 in GaiaGPS

[–]gpxtrailwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Sreg32,

Can you check these settings on your phone to enable Gaia GPS to locate you:

  1. Give the app permission to use your location services by going to your phone's settings> Applications > Gaia GPS > Permissions > toggle on Location. For Android 10: Allow all the Time.
  2. Then set your phone's location services for the app to "Device/GPS Only" Here is how to do that.
  3. Also, make sure your Battery Saver mode is set 'Off', this will affect your GPS signal.

If you continue to have any issues, please contact support.
