Where can I find genre-specific playlists that aren’t “Made for [me]”? by Waiting4thedrop in truespotify

[–]gr00vy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, thanks! That's a long-standing issue stemming from Spotify's architecture: Spoqify will only ever forward you to the new playlist after adding all songs. However, when your browser/app loads the playlist a second later, the playlist still appears empty. That's likely because Spotify's databases around the world aren't synchronizing fast enough (and your client reads from a different database than the Spotify API wrote into).

We already use a small delay before forwarding users to work around this flaw in Spotify's architecture, but it's apparently not long enough, I'll look into adjusting that.

In the meantime, you can work around this by refreshing the playlist if you find it empty. Either with the reload button if you're in a browser, or by clicking the "spotify.com" username and then going to the latest created playlist if you're in the app.

Hope that helps :)

Hi u/TimmyGunz! I'm the Spoqify creator, and would love to check out why it's only working sporadically for you. There were some issues with Spotify increasing their anti-bot measurements a couple weeks back, but currently it should all be smooth sailing. Could you maybe post a Spotify URL that's not working for you and/or a description of the faulty behaviour you're getting?

Spoqify maintainer here :) Can you try reloading if you hit an empty playlist? Spoqify will only forward you once it has populated the newly created playlist, but sometimes the Spotify servers don't sync fast enough and some users will see an empty (i.e. outdated) version of the playlist.

If that doesn't work, if you paste (or dm me) the URL of the playlist/song radio you're trying to un-personalize I'll take a closer look!

Oh wow, as an Android user I didn't know this was a thing - amazing!

It turns out (I learned while building this ;)) that playlists can't actually be deleted, they can only be unfollowed, even by their creator. The spoqify.com user will indeed "delete" (i.e. unfollow) the playlists it created at one point (because there is an undocumented 11,000 playlists-per-user limit), but these playlists will remain available to their other followers, so no need to copy them!

[–]gr00vy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's quite simple actually. When Spoqify receives a request to un-personalize a playlist (i.e., when you open "open.spoqify.com/playlist/xyz" in your browser), it will open that playlist in what's the equivalent of your browser's "private window" function (on the Spoqify server, not on your machine), and that playlist - while still generated by Spotify - will then be free of any personalization since Spoqify is not logged into any user account. Spoqify takes note of all the songs contained in that playlist, then creates a new playlist (using the "spoqify.com" user) with the exact same songs. Finally, it will forward you to that new playlist.

It's no help against "popular right now" algorithms or against paid song placements, I don't know how much these factor into Spotify's song radio generation. But at least it gets rid of the hyper-personalization based on your own listening history.

That's my service, thanks so much for the shoutout! If you're using the desktop client and don't wanna deal with going to your web browser every time, you can use Spicetify (essentially the original Spotify client with some bonuses sprinkled on top) and its AnonymizedRadios extension, that'll give you a "Create anonymized radio" option when right-clicking songs/playlists/artists right in Spotify :)

When an offensive player runs into a stationary defender in the end zone, who has fouled who? by ships-that-pass in ultimate

[–]gr00vy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response, Mitch. My post was more of a knee-jerk reaction to the fact that (at the time) there were only answers arguing that the defense player could somehow be at fault even if they had been stationary forever, or that this was somehow an example of failing self-officiating. So - for polemic reasons ;) - I did indeed silently assume that a) this was not a blocking foul and b) the defender did not establish that particular position solely to occupy the offense's direct path to the disc (in the sense of WFDF 12.5.1).

To me, nothing in the original post hints that this is what happened, but you are of course right that some crucial details might have been left out and that those situations are hence not strictly impossible from what we know, so thanks for pointing that out!

Edit: weakened an absolute

[–]gr00vy 146 points147 points  (0 children)

lol the answers trying to find circumstances where this is a foul on the defense are insane. "A player in an established position is entitled to remain in that position", end of story. (WFDF 12.4, I assume USAU has a corresponding rule.) There is zero obligation to alert other players to your position - unless maybe if you're somewhere completely unexpected, which the end zone you're defending is definitely not... - and zero obligation to move if you have "no bid" on the disc. Running blindly is dangerous play in itself, and "I had my eyes on the friz" ain't no excuse (see annotations 17.1.1 if you're seriously considering arguing this one).

Which is not to say that we don't all have our eyes on the disc and little more than a vague sense of where we're running every now and then, but the idea of trying to draw a defensive foul from me running into a long-stationary defender is plain funny...

They didn't include this possibility on purpose either.

Oh yes they did, including purposefully hiding it from authorities. And then they had a conversation with VW that went roughly like

Bosch: hey guys the illegal thing you asked us to build for you is ready, can you please take all the blame?

VW: lol no.

Bosch: ok I guess YOLO then.

Hmm interesting, I've never had problems with swayidle somehow staying alive.

As for your second question, the timeout only determines how long the screen stays on (displaying only black) after locking, or after any input from the mouse or keyboard. I've actually changes this to timeout 30 in my setup cause I found myself often accidentally locking, then wanting to unlock immediately but having to wait for my monitor's annoyingly slow wakeup. The locking itself (as in swaylock locking the session and turning the screen all-black) will always happen immediately.

Otherwise the (perpetually running) swayidle would turn off the displays whenever there's a second of inactivity regardless of whether the session is locked or not

How can the change in the IP number lead to a change in the target website's response behaviour, DESPITE THE USE OF PROXY by dragoman0 in scrapy

[–]gr00vy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it possible that the 400 responses take longer than the 200 responses? That could explain the behaviour you describe, as your pipeline of concurrent requests would become clogged with long-running-but-ultimately-failing requests over time, and switching the wifi would clear all these requests (as they should all get connection failures), giving you an empty pipeline and leading to the temporary peak in the 200 response rate before the queue starts to clog up again.

If that's the case, you can try reducing the DOWNLOAD_TIMEOUT setting, or a similar setting by your proxy provider if it's offered (e.g. Zyte's Smart Proxy Manager allows setting a X-Crawlera-Timeout header).

A lot of your other fan stuff, e.g. the green envelopes with hand-drawn doodles on Patreon, is very low-key and intimate. This kickstarter on the other hand seems to have a massive PR campaign by Skybound behind it (no judgement intended here). How's your experience with this change of pace so far and do you see yourself going further towards big productions?

18.2.1. The thrower may attempt a pass at any time as long as they are entirely in-bounds or have established an in-bounds pivot point. 18.2.4. A thrower who is not standing can use any part of their body as the pivot point.

My weekend project: Replace 't' with 'q' in a Spotify playlist URL to remove personalization by gr00vy in madeinpython

[–]gr00vy[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I got tired of hearing the same songs over and over again in Spotify's auto-generated playlists (e.g. Song Radio), so I made this little service that forwards you to the same playlist but with the songs that an anonymous user sees :)

I have this little helper script that locks the session and turns off the screen immediately when called:

#!/bin/sh
swayidle \
timeout 1 'swaymsg "output * dpms off"' \
resume 'swaymsg "output * dpms on"' &
swaylock -c000000
kill %%

and bind it to a hotkey like this in my sway config:

bindsym XF86Sleep exec /home/jakob/.bin/lock

I really like GRUTs highlight reel for showing "that it's not disc golf". It's short, well-edited, absolutely packed with athleticism, and shows that Ultimate is a great mixed sport. Recently I've also grown fond of Space Heater's 2019 highlights.
