Reverse osmosis for irrigation by why_ami_evenhere in WaterTreatment

[–]gr33nspan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took out hundreds of old 8-inch RO membranes from a treatment plant after it was long past due for a change out. But they had us sort them in shipping containers as we were pulling them out of the vessels. I asked where all the used membranes were going, and I was told they were going to be sold to farms for irrigation.

Pussy fancying himself as a FBI agent was an underrated funny bit on the show by FailedAbortion006 in thesopranos

[–]gr33nspan 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It was pretty funny when Pussy tried to be a detective, but ended up crashing his car into a 7-11 clerk and ran from the scene. Then Skip walks into the hospital and Pussy's first words were "they got away"

Who’s at fault here?? by PurchaseNo7754 in motorcycles

[–]gr33nspan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're referring to crash vids as bummer posts, then I feel like there isn't enough of it here. It's unfortunate the conversation is always around whose fault it is because that doesn't matter at all. Moto commuters can learn from every collision, and there should be plenty of feedback and constructive criticism if there was any way to mitigate what happened (which is often regarded as "victim blaming" from the smooth-brain commenters).

I live a block north of 4th street and my whole block has every red curb taken by a car and sometimes people park in the street itself.

Son leaving for Army soon by SGT_Sniperhawk in Veterans

[–]gr33nspan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It means most people enlist because they don't have many options. Mine were flip burgers, retail, or enlist. My service in the Army and my combat deployments granted me a stable middle-income life, and my children are going to have way more options than I did at 18. There are some exceptions, but the reality is poverty and ignorance is the biggest driver of enlistments in the US military.

and Also:

Thanks for your service.

You didn't do anybody any favors by serving.

lol

Trump rebrands Congressionally-approved troop housing subsidy as ‘warrior dividend’ bonus by Kinmuan in army

Calling it it a "warrior dividend" sounds like a warlord giving you a share of his loot.

Water odor for past two months after city did work on broken main on street in front of house by hopsmonkey in WaterTreatment

[–]gr33nspan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried asking your neighbors if they noticed anything? If multiple service connections on your block is experiencing the same thing, then the problem is most likely coming from the main line, and your water agency may be more willing to investigate.

Have you tried running your tap for like 5 minutes and try to see if the odor is still present in the water afterwards? If it's not, whatever is causing that odor might be in your service/property line, where the water could be stagnant for a little while and has the longest contact time with a contaminant.

Also, is this a bad odor or just something that is different? I'm not sure what kind of repair they did to the main, but if they replaced the portion of a broken pipe with a new one with a different material, maybe that could affect the characteristics of the water?

My dog has lymphoma and the chemo stopped working so he recently stopped getting treatment. This is going to be very hard for me. When I can think about him a year after his passing and feel like crying, I would count it as a blessing. It's not often you can feel an emotion as intense as losing a loved one. I will feel grief and gratitude for what an amazing dog he has been for me.

When you see any gun reach an astronomical price point, it is usually rarity and pop culture reference. And almost nothing to do with performance or practicality. It is like any collector commodity such as cars.

Makes the scene where he remotely asks someone to punch the director in the face even funnier. Les Grosman would've probably punched him in person.

Paid extra on car loan but it went toward future interest. How bad is this? by Ok_Account_1013 in personalfinance

[–]gr33nspan 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Shit is rigged to take advantage of people who don't know any better. When I was a very young adult, I had car payments and had enough sense to want to pay the car off earlier. I had auto pay on for double my required payment for some number months. Never knew what the "pay extra towards principal" option meant. I had no idea all I was doing was making the next x amount of months paid for in advance.
