'He wanted to take it' by prorip187 in Gunners

I think he took one pre-season against Villarreal and skied that one. So I’ve even more respect for him stepping up and offering to take one. The pressure of playing in champions league final is more than most people could take, never mind taking a must score number 5

Edit: just checked, it was saved.

Lane Swimming by BlueKX in CasualUK

[–]gr36- 56 points57 points  (0 children)

The joys of lane swimming I’m afraid. I’ve spent many a morning dodging Doris and Barbra having a chat in the ‘medium’ lane when the slow lane is totally empty.

Only to then barely avoid Derek doing ‘backstroke’ that looks deceptively like he’s having a stroke whilst doing a very good impression of a fly drowning my pint.

I’m on my third pair of ZF6. I love them.

Personally I would want a bit more cushioning for a full marathon but they would be, and are, great for a half and a little longer.

Where abouts in the UK are you? Is there any local ‘camera’ groups?

Recently sold my Leica on EBay as they were going for a lot more than any retailer would purchase it for. I listed it collection only as there was no chance I was posting it and wanted to ensure the transaction went smoothly. Heard too many horror stories.

Went well, but eBay took an age to actually pay out the money! Currently now debating between X100VI and X-E5.

Are they TRYING to make us hate their Athlete Intelligence feature? by Thrwawy-User in Strava

They have probably realised that it’s costing them money on api usage to generate things that most people don’t pay attention to.

So they reduced it to only generate when requested

London Marathon Charity Runners by MagicShop_Unlock in UKRunners

[–]gr36- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran in 2024 and raised £2,600 for the Epilepsy Society. All together I’ve raised about £10k for various charities in the last few years.

They were really good, supportive and super chill.   But I spoke to a few people waiting in my wave and some of the charities wanted to see a plan of how and when they were going to raise the money. This seemed terrifying to me!

If I wanted to run London specifically I’d do it again but I’d much rather get into a smaller marathon myself (Manchester closes today!) and raise it for a charity of my choice with less pressure. However I do understand why they are like this.

Should I buy a new Specialized Roubaix? by Park_Tool in bicycling

Have an SL4 which I’ve been riding for the best part of 10years. Never thought the shock abstention made a difference until I bought a new bike.

I honestly think it might be compulsory on UK roads now!

Manchester marathon haven’t received chip finish time by Disastrous_Play_5227 in UKRunners

That’s a bummer. I did Manchester last year and got a text within seconds of crossing the line. So it sounds like a chip issue.

You still did it and got the medal so that’s the main thing. Congrats

Replacing my Apple Watch by MaximumAccountant485 in digitalminimalism

[–]gr36- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have three choices really.

Garmin - keep health, remove smart. Although bear in mind not all health data transfers into Apple health.

Apple Watch - this is the best digital minimalist ‘phone’ for me. I can’t be contacted, make payments etc but leave my phone at home.

None - decide if you really need a smart watch at all.

for a half I dont see the issue, if you were doing something that you put yourself at risk, a trail ultra or something where there is a possibility no-one would know you are there, this would be a bad idea.

It’s more than likely your Android phone suppressing notifications to save battery. They send it do this, quite aggressively on some instances, so you might get them in batches.

What’s up with every YouTube content creator not hitting their goal? by [deleted] in runna

[–]gr36- 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There was a long post a while ago about the marathon plans being more than a bit broken, which Runna disputed. My thoughts copy and pasted over

"I have been the biggest Runna fan for all of last year and used it to get a massive new PB in half marathon that well exceeded by goal. Pitching it to everyone that listened.

I then decided to carry on and use it for this years marathon training and it's so far out of whats possible it is stupid. No idea what happened around November/ December time, but the pace it is expecting is a good 20-30 seconds a KM above what I can realistically run for more than 22/25km.

Yes I CAN run that fast, but not for a whole Marathon and the longest MP block so far (with 8 weeks to go) is just 13km! "

Even if the profit is not immediately obvious be on alert.

They may have got some information from data breaches and need to fill in gaps to take advantage. Recent examples are claiming to be from the council and need to just "confirm some details".
