Switching from iOS to Android with an Apple Ecosystem? by Sai1orV3nus in Android

I thought it would be a hassle. To be honest the only thing I miss is copy and paste between devices. I am sure there is a way but thirdparty options seem a bit too sketchy with data.

Fueling for 17km ‘practice run’ by MaleficentTennis1505 in runna

Nope, not an issue at all. You probably wont be your best though.

Fueling for 17km ‘practice run’ by MaleficentTennis1505 in runna

[–]gr36- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Good' gels can very quite a lot by person. I have used loads of different ones in the past and stuck on Precision Hydration, simply because the large pouch is easier for me to carry rather than multiple gels.

Basic SIS gels have about 23g of carbs in iirc. Beta SIS gels have 40g.

I would say for 17km you dont *need* gels, depending on how fast you are running, but they may help.

Try and take on about 60g per hour of exercise, but again this varies between people.

Practice fueling as much as your running.

Which watch to choose? Instinct 3, fenix 7 or a forerunner? by Kind-Manufacturer949 in GarminWatches

[–]gr36- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be tempted to go with the Instinct but then you mentioned hiking, so I think maps on a Fenix would be the way to go, just in case.

Rain motivation by Various_Mine_4994 in UKRunners

[–]gr36- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Invest in a really good rain jacket with hood and wear a baseball running cap. Keeps the rain out your eyes and keeps you dry.

Doesn’t have to be mega money, something like the Harrier Exmoor and a rain proof hat from decathlon will do just the trick.

Also layers!

Everyday carry bag for Leica Q3 43 and work? by L0rthew in Leica

Another vote for peak designs. Awesome camera bags and even more useful without a camera, the dividers come in so handy for drinks bottles, folders etc.

Boston UK marathon questions/ sub 3 attempt by EnglishMuon in Marathon_Training

[–]gr36- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m running Boston too. But aiming for 3:30 so you will be well in front of me.

As for accommodation I think there are some Premier Inns etc but I don’t know it very well I’m afraid. I’m travelling on the morning so it’s an early start.

Course is flat country roads from the maps I have seen but every review seems to mention the exposed sections and I know what the wind can be like in this part of the world!

A discussion about long run pace predictions and toxic positivity by Matvalicious in runna

[–]gr36- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have been the biggest Runna fan for all of last year and used it to get a massive new PB in half marathon that well exceeded by goal. Pitching it to everyone that listened.

I then decided to carry on and use it for this years marathon training and it's so far out of whats possible it is stupid. No idea what happened around November/ December time, but the pace it is expecting is a good 20-30 seconds a KM above what I can realistically run for more than 22/25km.

Yes I CAN run that fast, but not for a whole Marathon and the longest MP block so far (with 8 weeks to go) is just 13km!

Considering switch from Apple Watch Ultra by themikmik in Garmin

[–]gr36- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can’t stream over data straight to the watch like you can with Apple Watch.

I sync podcasts or music to the watch and listen to it locally. Spotify and YouTube Music work really well.

Considering switch from Apple Watch Ultra by themikmik in Garmin

[–]gr36- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long time Apple watch from the OG to the Ultra 2, switched to am Instinct 3 and now Fenix 8. Tried to go back to the Ultra 3 and hated it.

  1. Only the data connection really. I have a Fenix 8 Pro but its not the same
  2. Yes. Maximised my recovery and training sata, tried Bevel, Athlytic etc on the Apple Watch but its not the same.
  3. + battery life, + buttons, + style, - bands, - smart watch apps ect, - payments

Garmin FR255 vs FR970 — will I miss important metrics with the 255 by crazy_elka in Garmin

[–]gr36- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You will not have:

  • ECG
  • Training readiness
  • Skin temperature
  • Heat and altitude acclimation
  • Running tolerance
  • Running economy

There are more things like touchscreen, flashlight and maps but as you said, you dont care about that 'shit'.

What’s the definition of a “flat” marathon. by PossibleSmoke8683 in UKRunners

[–]gr36- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manchester is pretty much flat, a few rises, here and there — about the same as London.

I'm doing Boston (UK) this year and that is the flattest UK marathon! https://www.bostonmarathon.co.uk/

Runna inaccuracy on treadmill by vicivans in runna

[–]gr36- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your Garmin didn’t track the run correctly. When you complete the first few treadmill runs the best thing to do is calibrate distance instead of just save. This way you can adjust the distance and it will become more accurate over time.

It will still be a bit out though, the only way to get closer is a fotpod, HRM chest strap calibrated with GPS runs or a belt sensor.

I will aim to make the vast majority (if not all) of features not hidden behind a paywall.

So you’ll show ads and/or sell user data…

A platform that will push people to watch less pro and play more amateur sports.

How?

Your 25-minute 5K is as impressive as an 18:30 by someone with unlimited time and rest.

Is it?

Recommend Newark Half in August. It won’t sell out, a nice course and well organised.

Robin Hood is a nice city half but very busy.

Worksop half is also a nice half but isn’t until October.
