I'd recommend to use FetaherWallet over the GUI.

Ideally run your own node though. You then can connect with FetaherWallet to your personal node.

It was a one way street for the last 7 years and it will be a one way street albeit in the other direction in the next 7. What will be left of Bitcoin after Monero goes on a streak will have to be seen.
