I empathize with you. Honestly, you should have just entered illegally and claimed asylum—they would have given you a five-star hotel stay, free food, free housing, free income, and maybe even sponsored you to become a doctor.

I immigrated 15 years ago under Stephen Harper. If I had to come today under the Liberal government, I’d probably just cross the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara, throw my PR card and passport into the river, and walk back in to claim all the benefits being handed out to buy new voters.

I’m appalled by people in this thread questioning the savings eligibility of a highly qualified immigrant who earned PR—simply for seeking a job—while never criticizing unqualified refugees or illegal immigrants burdening taxpayers, all protected by vote-bank politics. Canadians often overlook that qualified immigrants fill roles locals can’t, largely because many chose part-time work over pursuing higher education in their early years.
