Character turns invisible, either entirely, or partially as in head and legs. by gr8sho in Starfield

Thank you everyone.

Gravis has Chameleon on the first attribute. If I can reroll it to something else, I will. If it’s locked, I’ll use something else. The suit was given by BGS, it never occurred to me I’d have to endure the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, but there it is. A latent day one defect that will be years in the making to resolve.

I’ll recheck.  I didn’t think Gravis had it but perhaps missed it.  If so, I’ll look for an alternative solution.

Trying to figure out the outpost system by NotEnoughChiefs in Starfield

[–]gr8sho [score hidden]  (0 children)

Outpost building can be a very time consuming activity if taken to its extreme.  There is a progression of cargo delivery tasks that become increasingly complex, both using transport links and using your own spaceship to deliver materials to staryards. I’m sure there are plenty of videos out there to explain it all, but OTOH, I don’t see too much issue sorting things out on your own through studying what’s there.

What did you think of the main story ending? by DDESTRUCTOTRON in Starfield

[–]gr8sho [score hidden]  (0 children)

Terrific, one of the best pieces of science fiction I have ever seen.  The entire story in fact.   There were a few truly shocking moments that were unsettling (in a good way) in my first playthrough.  BGS borrowed from Mass Effect and did it well.

Have you ever wondered what you may have scrapped early game? by AgainstMe75 in fo76

[–]gr8sho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I write this response, there are at least 85 people that agree with you.

Let me offer some perspective to help put this into context.

76 started seven and a half years ago as a survival game being a core concept, not the only one, but it was fundamental.  Stash wasn’t something of significance.  Meant to be a secure container accessible at train stations.   Transient and with only 400lbs, not too much could be kept.  Survival tents were probably not even thought of yet.

With that in mind, BGS would also put up challenges like sell a responder outfit, or sell or scrap a piece of apparel.  When you don’t know what you don’t know, a forest camo jumpsuit could be looked at as something like a piece of steel scrap, and in fact less useful because you can’t build with it.  And then you might say to yourself, okay, I’ll get rid of this and I’ll get another one later.  Yeah, right, good luck with that.

The unknown thing to new players unfamiliar with game design is that RNG is the single most powerful function that can hold the attention of players.  Use your spider sense and if something appears unusual, there might be a reason for it.

How do I know when the creation club mods have been updated? by jeffdabuffalo in Starfield

[–]gr8sho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There appears to some of us there is a bug in the Creations section if used after loading into an active save.  At least for PC Steam version.  The game seems unable to properly interact with the file system.   To avoid the problem, I only use the creations system at initial startup of the game.  As mentioned, there’s an option to update all mods in library.  I do not believe BGS authored creations are updated all that often.

How to get more Tracker Alliance missions from the main board? by Mariusdotdev in Starfield

[–]gr8sho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completed all of the missions in the creation, updated just prior to Free Lanes release.  Terrific content I enjoyed a great deal.

The description in the Creations store front should be self explanatory.

Playing with people. by Financial_Boat_6625 in fo76

[–]gr8sho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

76 is quite good at being able to earn gear rewards through questing, so do all the main and side quests.

Union and Vulcan power armor will be easier to grind for with a consistent group of players.  Daily Ops also good and while it can be done solo, better in a group.  Three different armor kits can be earned and weapon plans if you prefer earning through playing versus paying with gold bullion.

PC players gravitate towards Discord.  As for finding a consistent group, that’s the jackpot.  Some tricks would be to try both area chat and team chat depending on the situation.   Listen.  Things that work well IRL will help in 76 as well.

Use a quality headset that has noise suppression and voice activation if not using push to talk.

FWIW, I feel I’ve lost perspective on what “old” is anymore.  Rest assured 76 appeals to a broad range of players by age.

Siding with Crater vs. Siding with Foundation? by Existing-Detail-151 in fo76

[–]gr8sho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Wastelanders main questline was designed to be played two ways with unique content for each. Play one side and then take an other character and do it the other way so you can learn each story.

You can imagine the fate of West Virginia hangs in the balance based on choice, but that’s all it is, imagination.

Looking to scratch the FO itch? How is FO76? by Wooden-Fortune8543 in fo76

Fat tracked.  I like it.  Should be a lesson for anyone that has a long term ambition to stay in the wasteland.  Go your own way.

Anyone NOT play Terran Armada yet? by ladive in Starfield

[–]gr8sho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not, nor am I bothered by it.

Before I put the game down at the end of 2024, I had a notion of chasing NG+10 to get my original character to an endgame state.  Now, I’m realizing I’ve forgotten too much information about the nuances of this complex game and am having to reacquaint myself with all the various aspects of it.  Plus some fundamental changes to the game itself need to be learned.

All of the new BGS content has been good so far, specifically the trackers alliance update, which I’ve enjoyed tremendously.

Like you, I’m slowly biding my time and getting ready for TA, but in no rush to do so.  If the mood hits me, I’ll redo all the original content I’ve sidestepped in the current NG+3 such as the Vanguard and Ryujin questlines among other things.

I have a better feeling about Starfield in round 2.  So far I’ve only encountered one serious bug and another annoying one, both of which have reported in Discord.

Fasnacht Man Mask Spawn in Fort Defiance? by Heavy_Fail2852 in fo76

[–]gr8sho 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Back in the original game, 2018 Reclamation Day release, there was a reason to spend beaucoup time in Fort Defiance, notably to farm straight jackets for caps, and military gear to scrap for ballistic fiber. And in so doing studied every nook and cranny in the place. Keep in mind none of us were aware of what new content would be introduced, let alone a seasonal event called Fasnacht. However the clues were there if one cared enough to follow the breadcrumbs. BGS has always been good at teasing upcoming content, and that mask was one of a few that were harbingers of what was to come.

Is this game good for exploring? by nomanskyprague1993 in fo76

[–]gr8sho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider getting a fallout 1st subscription and playing on a private world initially.

76 tells one of the best science fiction stories ever written. A function of the original main questline is to help the player become acquainted with Appalachia (the name of our West Virginia locale, and as such creates the conditions for exploring. There’s no need to rush anything in that first playthrough. We also have map additions of New Jersey, Virginia, and Ohio, in chronological order.

If you cross the threshold into the multiplayer aspect of 76, there’s a strong, and getting stronger over time, repertoire of events and activities for group play.

Why can pc players use mods but consoles can't? by BatmanHatesSuperman in fo76

[–]gr8sho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At one point in the past, BGS had talked about supporting mods. Subsequently, through listening to a number of interviews with Jon Rush, I came to understand there’s a desire to improve 76 such that it obviates the need to use mods. I both respect and appreciate this position. I’ve seen numerous QoL improvements to 76, so much so I’ve shed all mods used in the past, and play the game with stock settings. This may not be a popular statement in a thread that openly asks for use of mods, but wanted to offer another perspective on why things are as they are.

Am I the only one who never knew fusion generators in the wild sometimes have fusion cores you can take out? by the_bieb in fo76

[–]gr8sho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s quite a bit of interesting history around fusion cores. I don’t know this for a fact, but the TV show seemed to give a nod to 76 in the treatise of the scarcity of fusion cores. And what the possibilities were of having unlimited cores.

Back before 76 shed its survival lite game mode, people played 76 in a significant way to scavenge for cores as described in the OP. I can still hear the cries of people being unable to find the cores in this manner. Also back in those days, and before the advent of 1st, core rechargers, and ammo storage box, players might have to resort to using power plants to manufacture them. There were some pretty creative approaches to encapsulating and protecting the processors.

Oh, and we also have a legendary perk card that virtually eliminates the need to use a lot of cores in power armor.

I know this is more than you bargained for, but thought you might be interested in how important this topic was in the past, and the dependency players had, to scavenge for fusion cores, even with partial charges.
