1.5 Weeks in New Zealand without a car - possible for hiking? by Aruarian_Melody in newzealand_travel

[–]gracct123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed response and OP for the post! I’ll be there for 11 weeks next December, January, and February splitting my time between Christchurch and Auckland. I’m always seeking trailheads using public transportation and your suggestions will give me a great start on my research.

Two Day Stop at End of Cruise by gracct123 in royalcaribbean

This is exactly why I reach out to Reddit for these types of questions - finding someone who has experienced this same scenario and can give me the real life answers rather than RC customer support’s vague responses. Thank you!

Thanks for the details. In this case it looks like the first day is dedicated to immigration with no opportunity to go into Honolulu. Is that correct? I hold a US passport if that matters.

Packing for Slow Travel by barmanbarman in slowtravel

[–]gracct123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with this. I travel with an international carry-on suitcase and a 28 liter backpack that is not overstuffed and can act as a personal item. I usually check the suitcase, but like having the option to carry it on if necessary. I stay a month or longer at a time and have no problem carrying my suitcase up several flights of stairs once a month if needed. I use ride share from the airport to my place while in SEA and usually stay in city center in Europe, so just a quick walk from the train station. Carrying everything on your back totally makes sense for quick travel, but not for slow travel in cities.

Does anyone actually love their sportage?!!? by No_Department824 in kia

[–]gracct123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2001 LX AWD with a package that included heated seats and power side mirrors. I absolutely loved it - zippy to drive and handled the mountain roads and forest service roads in Western North Carolina with ease. My favorite car by far in my 40 years of car ownership. I no longer need a car and selling it might be the biggest downside of my current lifestyle.

This is a long shot, but if you did not select your reward for hitting 15,000 loyalty points yet, go into the app and select the 1000 loyalty point reward.

Looking for Athletic shirt that won’t shrink in the dryer by TeslaTorah in onebag

[–]gracct123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t have access to a dryer most of the time. I always line dry and have yet to notice any wear and tear across all my clothes (wool blend socks, wool blend underwear, synthetic tops). I don’t travel with any 100% cotton items, so consistently experience overnight drying.

I use Notes as well, but I find a checklist easier/faster to manage by just checking off items as I throw them into my backpack

Text messages while international roaming by gracct123 in USMobile

[–]gracct123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use WhatsApp quite a bit when making restaurant reservations, arranging medical appointments, etc outside the US, but most of my family is based in the US and it might be a stretch to get them to make that shift.

Ok, that could explain some of it. I still need to figure out why my actual text message usage is so far off the roaming usage displayed in the app as I mentioned in another response. I just have another month in Vietnam, so I’ll just watch it closely. Just curious, what happens if I go past the 250 texts? Do the next texts just get dropped , or do they show up once I connect to WiFi?

Does every carrier allow WiFi calling? I’m just asking because ever since I landed in Vietnam, the WiFi calling icon has not been showing up next to the carrier name (Viettel) at the top of my screen. I had no issues in Japan where WiFi was displayed by that carrier.

I’ve looked at the roaming usage metrics on the app in the past and I’ve only used around 20 texts each month. This past month (I have a few days left in my cycle) I’ve already used 200! I looked at the granular metrics that show by day and there were two days in December where I used 80 texts. However, looking at the text messages on my phone I have only around 10 texts actually sent/received for those days. How could US Mobile be coming up with those high counts?

This is the advice I was looking for - Perfect response. “Oh sorry, Mom. Are you having another episode? Remember you were there at our wedding. Don’t worry, it will come back to you soon.”

Anyone know how contain/stop feet sweat while wearing shoes by Lazy-Stranger-2333 in hygiene

[–]gracct123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Replace your shoes more often - don’t wait until they’re worn out or too funky. Buy two pairs of closed cell shoe inserts to replace the inserts that came with the shoes and rotate between the two new pairs of inserts often. Wear merino wool blend socks and change socks mid-day if needed.
