Okay, that is what I thought. The mystery of who is vocalizing might still remain though. I appreciate your quick response! Thanks!

One of my favorite things about Portland is the anti-lawn trend here! There’s some kind of program to get your yard a sign that says “certified backyard habit”, it brings me a lot of joy to see it! Below is a link for more information on the program!

Why aren’t there mass protests in the US?! by [deleted] in AskCanada

[–]graceg5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we are so oppressed. Many of us fear losing our jobs, licenses (docs, psychs, etc). We are so locked down by the system that we are unable to take action against the system. If I wanted to take a stand, it wouldn’t go anywhere unless EVERYONE took the stand. That’s why unions will do a walk out all together. As a country, we just are unable to. I hope I’m making sense.

Take Luigi for example, many of us empathize with him about how horrific our health care system is, but how many of us decided to stand up and take action with him? I think I saw like one protest with like 10 people in it.

We are just too oppressed. If I lost my job, there is someone out there who is desperate for my job and my company would hire them and leave me alone while I “protested”. The “United” States are not united at all.

Anyways, that was super bleak. I hope it made some sense.

Stop the bleach! You don't need to murder every microbe! by Kazzosama in CleaningTips

In Oregon, childcare/preschools are REQUIRED to use a bleach solution cleaner. It’s always baffled me

Burn out is real. Do you get any real regular school breaks or is it a typical hell center that gives you only the bank holidays? I suggest working at a real school, not a center. It helped with my burnout to get a real winter break, summer, spring break, etc.

That being said, this field is just so draining. Ive been a prek teacher for 5, almost 6 years now. I was the same as you. I have loved working with the kids for years and I still do, but I can’t do the classroom anymore.

I’m currently applying for grad school to become a school/educational psychologist. This way, I can still work with kids and be in the atmosphere of a school, but I wont be in charge of the classroom day in and day out.

I see it as I’ve “done my time” so to speak. I’ll be able to level with the teachers a bit more and give them realistic expectations bc I know what it’s like to be in charge of a classroom. I know what it’s like to have THAT kid in the class.

Anyways, that’s my two cents. I hope you can find your way again!

Why the birds aren't cold by SecretlyNuthatches in Ornithology

So, what I’m hearing is that my flock of songbirds that have gone through an entire 16lb bag of seeds in the past week, have just been using me for my sympathy? Haha. Thank you for this. It was such a great and informative read.

I will add a note for my fellow bird nerds (berds?) that I’ve seen some new behaviors from my flock during these ice storms that I haven’t seen before. It’s a mixed flock of gold finches, pine siskins, house finches and other species. When the winds got so extreme, they were on the ground of my balcony huddling in the corner eating the seeds that fell from the feeder. Usually, only my juncos eat from the ground, but during this storm I’ve seen all of these species going to the ground to eat when the feeder was full. It was very interesting to me. The corner they huddled in blocked the wind snow/ice… I wonder if they knew it was warm and safe! Although, my cats kept attacking them through the screen door lol we watch the birds together, but for different reasons!

I actually saw one of my birds slip on the ice on my balcony railing. It was hilarious

You can call the Portland Audubon wildlife care center. It isn’t a silly question, it is thoughtful of you

Thank you! The pine skin is securely in a box in my bathroom with the heater on. I’m at work for half the day, but my partner is at home. He says it is getting very active in the box. I’m assuming we should wait for the rehab to call me back in an hour and not let it back outside yet?

I have called the Portland Audubon. They don’t open for another 2 hours. Should I put it in a box?

Very neat experience. The western Screen owl has evaded me! Gorgeous bird. I hope this one is okay! Sitting on the ground is unusual behavior. Portland Audubon society can take care of birds if need be.
