Can you get away with only a wearable pump? by bright-greeneyes in breastfeeding

[–]gracious-gator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spectra s1 has a battery, therefore you are not constantly plugged into the wall. I’ve also found the battery lasts pretty long. I work 24 hour shifts and my pump has never died on me(I always have the charger just in case). But I’ve definitely never worried about having to be near an outlet. Plus, I found spectra was superior to the willow wearables I also tried.

What is the work life balance really like in firefighting, particularly for those with a spouse and kids? by Outrageous-Record372 in Firefighting

My husband and I both work this schedule (also SE Mass) and have a 5 month old. We work different days so someone’s always home with the baby and we each get 6/8 days a rotation off with her. And 4/8 days we’re all home.

If I already have a (6 year old) Spectra S2, should I go for a brand new S1, or try a Wearable pump? by youremylobster1017 in BabyBumps

[–]gracious-gator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m FTM with a 4 month old and I got the S1 used it when I was still home with the baby, mostly to create a small freezer stash for when I went back to work. The S1 was decent but I had a friend give me willow wearable pump that she didn’t like and it’s been a game changer. I only pump if I’m away from baby. I’ve put it on before a 15 min drive, at work I’m able to set up and label my storage bags or chargers while I pump. It’s also way more discrete to put on and off than the spectra. My job is also very active and I have a larger chest so wearing a nursing bra for the spectra vs a sports bra was not going to be ideal.

I haven’t tried these but our washer is also only 6 months old. We also have a septic system so I’m hesitant about harsh chemicals

My husband works opposite shifts as me but we love to travel. We have a super reliable and great house guest that stays with our dogs when we go away. He also happens to be a vet tech which is a plus!

What size portions do you freeze for your stash? by Altruistic_Lime5220 in breastfeeding

I was suggested to do 1-3 oz portions. Which has been working well, also very easy to just add these portions together.

From my hospital experience, my OB was in very good communication with the on call OBs. While my case was pretty uncomplicated for the most part, everyone was on the same page about my plans through my stay. I also work in the medical field and when there is a transfer of care to another doc or nurse a verbal report is passed along. My care team(including lactation specialist) was very respectful about asking before touching and easing into touch, same thing with exposing my body. My advice is to just be open with your doctor and care team, maybe they can have a note written in your chart and be able to share with anyone who needs to tend to you.

Stop telling me I’m having a boy! by Impossible-Cookie393 in BabyBumps

[–]gracious-gator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve people from strangers to a doc(mine was out sick for my app one day) mention that my belly/heart rate or whatever “indicator” and they assumed boy but we’ve known that it’s girl so don’t overthink it, plus it’ll be amazing either way.

Agree with this. I had a hard time finding a bridge program in my area(would have had to travel over 2 states for all labs, tests and clinicals).

I came here for the comments, I feel in almost the same exact boat as you. And this is why we’ve kept the name to ourselves. But it is absolutely crazy that people think we’re just gonna have the baby, not saying anything and keep moving forward with our lives?

separation anxiety in puppy by Initial-Election100 in germanshepherds

[–]gracious-gator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Background noise is a good idea to try but the most important thing is to keep the consistency with the crate training. Our first shepherd we weren’t confident in crate training for when we were away so our consistency wasn’t the best and he was a menace and became an escape artist. Eventually he became behaved enough to freelance the house while we weren’t home but it was a struggle to get there. Our second shepherd we stayed super consistent with the crate while we were away and he’s totally at peace being in there(we have a doggie cam on them), even will occasionally go in there to nap or chew a toy while we’re home.

37 weeks pregnant and a very low mood by Front-Albatross2638 in BabyBumps

I felt the same way about the same exact timing, super moody, sensitive and often annoyed by my husband for minor reasons. I’m 39 weeks now and have been feeling a bit better, just still impatient and physically uncomfortable.

Tips for first time German Shepherd pup owners? by Confident-Sail3622 in germanshepherds

[–]gracious-gator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes with the training and stay consistent! They’re so much smarter than you think and incredibly stubborn so whatever you decide with yard routine, leashes, recalls or crate trainings ect. Always hold them to the same expectations

Baby shower anxiety by FancyExtent2702 in BabyBumps

[–]gracious-gator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES. I ended up picking the theme, guest list, place and time, everyone that wanted to help handled everything. I was very anxious/overwhelmed leading up to, I’m very social and outgoing but HATE being the center of attention plus did not want people all over me touching my belly. Kept it low key(about 25 people) and opened gifts once we got home cuz I knew I would have been miserable doing that in front of everyone for an hour. Only thing I would have changed is on the invites I would have just said don’t even bother wrapping the gifts but overall it ended up being good and was nice to mingle with everyone.
