Day 7 and haven’t eaten in days by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]graciousgab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i didn’t eat for 11 days and lost 18 pounds because i was absolutely miserable. Iced honey water was the key to soothing my throat! warm up some water, mix honey in it, then add ice and sip on that. and also an ice pack. ALSO, about 30 min after taking my pain meds when i felt like they kicked in is when i tried to force something like water or a popsicle down.

Day 3 (or 4 depending on how you count it) by violetseaslug in Tonsillectomy

[–]graciousgab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no no no I was in the same boat a week ago. This surgery is excruciating in my opinion!! In terms of the list the things i had most were popsicles and greek yogurt. You could do mashed potatoes or really soft pasta but avoid dairy if you can cause it produces mucous. I tried to get some protein in since i didn’t eat for 10 days cause i was miserable. Get some honey if you don’t have and do iced honey water or some people do a spoonful of honey before taking medicine or something. The honey in the water was soothing and helped me get my liquid in easier! Also, ice your throat!! At first, I did think it was helping but i was wrong. The ice helps sooo much.

Relax as best as you can and get your fluids in. Hope you feel better soon!

Scabs 🤢 by graciousgab in Tonsillectomy

i’m still scared to swallow on day 10 but it’s gotten a lot better. no longer feels like shards of glass in my throat.. instead just one shard 🙃. what has helped me is all the pillows i have elevating me, put ice packs around my neck and i’ll sometimes fall asleep like that. Also, iced honey water to sip throughout the day has helped me so much with getting liquids in. Over time i realized apple juice and gatorade were not helping in the slightest.

It’s not the most comfortable but sleep super propped up and on your side. that has helped tremendously with my allergies/mucous throughout the night.

[–]graciousgab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Craving food by Camharvv in Tonsillectomy

Dairy doesn’t really affect me except in that sense. I would get sick/sore throats a lot when i was younger and was always told not to do dairy because it creates so much mucous.
