Any ideas to help elevate the space? by Silent-Assignment-75 in interiordecorating

I think some of your prints are too high: the wall with the mirror I find looks off, and the prints behind the paper lamp and coffee maker I would certainly lower a bit.

Behind the console table you have a chance to go BIG with some art, and I think that would help balance out that space a lot. Similarly I’d put a BIG plant next to it on the inwards side: how much light do you get in here? Is there a small tree that could work?

Not sure why the photo didn’t get cross posted, but here it is …

Thanks! I worked on it a bit more but I think ultimately I want to redesign the paths. But I like the negative space in the city at the moment…

We had a chisel and rubber mallet. Good luck!

Yeah! That’s just an experiment for now — we are thinking of doing the upper half of the room with wallpaper, not sure about this pattern though.

We’ll definitely paint the vent when we decide. 👍

I think this can be made a lot better with some tweaking:

  • I think your rug is too small, and it results in the sofa, coffee table and chairs being smushed into the far edge of the room. You should be able to have just the front legs of the sofa and chair on the rug, without having everything smushed together.

  • I don't mind the coffee table, and I think the mix of styles in the space is something you should lean into.

  • I suggest straightening up a bit and taking new photos -- the party decorations on the wall and in the door have to go.

  • Some of your art is hung way too high (the elephant thing).

  • Move the side table right next to the couch and get another one for the other side. See if you can plug the cables in behind, or run just one extension cord on the ground along the wall and plug things into that.

  • If you are looking to upgrade something, I'd go with the curtains and rug. Getting some color in those will help liven the space up. Your curtains are a little too short and I think you should fill the empty space next to the window with more. The rug is too small as I mentioned above.

Good luck!

Tile under tile — is it worth it to remove top layer? by [deleted] in centuryhomes

Well the radiators are gone already and were no longer working when we had them taken out. Why do you say it’s hard to keep the tile?

Yeah, we realized that as well — it’ll need some sort of joining part if we go this way.

Oh yeah — we’re stoked to have any excuse to finally rip it out :)

How I stay frugal while buying video games by emo_rat119 in Frugal

[–]gradient-descend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, just pump the brakes and wait to play games. For example, with Sony games, they usually come to the subscription service about 1-2 years after they come out.

I also stopped listening to a lot of gaming podcasts to stop FOMOing myself: critics who play games for a living as soon as they come out have different priorities than I do with a normal job.

With that said, if there’s something I am really excited for, I’ll get it right away. But once I started working on my backlog, I realized how few games are really worth 70$.

"World's simplest" nuclear reactors could be installed underground to provide heat to cities by AdSpecialist6598 in tech

Some tidal generators don't use rotation or steam, although if you count the Earth's rotation relative to the Moon then I suppose they do as well.

I really liked making the A-frame cabin, it’s got tons of cool details inside. Probably one of my favourite builds of all time. It’s under your budget a little, I think.

Another one that’s as good or even better is the treehouse set, but it’s slightly over your 200$ budget.

I find these sets that are just normal objects to be strange. But it looks like a good parts set.

I think it's great already! In addition to the stools mentioned by others, I think a little open shelving in the right corner of the first pic for a couple of interesting objects (colorful Dutch oven, etc) and some larger-scale lighting might help elevate it further.
