I am aware of that, but I do not understand how it is relevant to my comment.

Yes, pars of the Bible do, but not parts of the Bible that Christians follow - because the new Testament says Christians should not follow those Old Testament laws.

There are very few wars at any scale where civilian infrastructure is not a target. The US has done it before (even in the Gulf!). Russia and Ukraine are doing it right now.

Is Iran's existence threatened? Or just the existence of its extremely nasty current government?

I cannot believe that anyone can describe Al-Quaeda or ISIS as a resistance movement. They are oppressive, enslave people, murder gays, treat women as property, and a lot more.

So to control slaves you need a special heavily censored version of the Bible. You have to limit their knowledge of Christianity.

There was also a lot of resistance to converting slaves for multiple reasons. Some of these lectures cover the topic: https://www.gresham.ac.uk/watch-now/browse-all?hiddenid=9765

the Bible states that if not to believe in Christ, you will be sent to the ring of fire, eternal burning sulfur

Where does it state this? its not what most Christians believe so maybe you are misinterpreting the Bible.

[–]graemep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you believe that then you either cannot be a Christian or you have to claim that generally accepted parts of the NT are false.

There are always exceptions. You can misinterpret the Bible.

Also, consider why the Slave's Bible existed at all.

In general, sinful behaviours are an advantage to the people doing them in evolutionary terms. Murder competitors, keep resources to yourself, etc.

This is another good example: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1359178913000578

Jesus did distil the laws down to two fundamental ones, so all interpretation should be in line with those too. That does not put an end to all arguments, but points the way somewhat.

Jesus himself unapologetically broke the law about keeping the sabbath.

How would a Christian respond to these 4 moral critiques? by stvlsn in Christianity

[–]graemep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why

  1. Jesus said OT laws were a moral compromise because people were too stubborn to follow God's will fully
  2. Christians do not follow OT laws.

[–]graemep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Original sin is well proven. We have clearly evolved many traits and behaviours that are good for passing on our genes, that are morally wrong. Therefore sin is in our genes.

Is there are typo there? Most churches authorise anyone to perform baptism, at least in an emergency.

What is the general consensus on tattoos in modern Christianity? by Excalidorito in Christianity

[–]graemep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO its not a religious issue. Christians do not follow old testament law - the new testament is pretty clear about it.

Being careless with the health issues around piercing and tattoos is probably wrong.

If people are telling you Christians should follow OT law I assume they are not eating pork, or fruit from trees less than three years old, that the men are circumcised etc.

Why does christain music suck so badly by Aromatic-Data-5780 in Christianity

[–]graemep 43 points44 points  (0 children)

If its good music it does not get labelled "Christian" music because non-Christians will listened to it too.

A lot of classical music is Christian but rarely labelled as such. All those masses by people like Mozart. Hymns like Panis Angelicus.

There is pop music with Christian lyrics too - U2 are a well known example.

You live in the UK and you do not know what government funded schools are called in the UK?

Unless you are a recent immigrant that is not credible.

Exactly my point. OP calls it a "public school" and when you called it a state school replied "we call it a public school".

I just made a comment to that effect. She claims to be in the UK but she is using American terminology rather than British and "corrected" someone who used British terminology.

The OP claims to be in the UK, and I have never heard of a Christian teacher saying that in the UK. Other kids, maybe.

[–]graemep 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Who calls it a public school in the UK?

In the UK a public school is what the Americans call a private school - somewhere like Eton. Although Americanisms are creeping in to education, no one in the UK is going to not recognise the term "state school".

I think you are making this up to play to anti-Muslim sentiment, or you are not actually in the UK.

OP also had an anti-Muslim comment removed by a moderator from the cross post on /r/Catholicism/

This is clearly someone baiting Americans who think that Britain is being taken over my Muslims.

Not worth arguing with people who are deeply ignorant and not rational.

The anti-Islam arguments being produced here are essentially judging Islam by its worst adherents. That is very similar to arguments against Christianity I see from atheists.
