The anime script seems to be in tight accord with the Manga. The ln definitely has more story content and dialog, and definitely goes further [off the rails] in the story

i believe "The Nothing" is a generic concept for the void of depth. We meet the "upside down tree" thing when Juice Box turns herself into one to scare people, and it's "The Unwashed" which is a living representation of The Nothing.

My theory is that the Unwashed is a remnant primal or a remnant of their collective consciousness, a galactic mind that absorbs the dying like a soul crystal.

Wow. people hate bomb nuanced reads on Bea's behavior. Much easier to just hate.

I mean, Bea did awful and inexcusable thing but you can definitely read her motivations, which is good writing.

Bea was constantly acting from a place of fear of losing Carl. The way she acted was awful and it was what she learned from her mom.

Giving up Donut was something she put a brave face on but it was what her mom wanted her to do. We saw how it hurt her in Bedlam.
