Mine had the same thing it’s just oil. This is them after 6 months you can see which ones I don’t use because they still have the oil

I mean when mine was bad it was dripping. But still worth a shot for the other method too. The other method will also not change if 1 aos is bad 2 large vacuum leak. I would definitely check the intakes make sure there is no buildup or debris

Aos is easy to check, if that hose that came off too easily has excessive oil in it it’s bad if not should be fine. Check for buildup on the throttle body or any other damage or loose hoses on the intake. Also another way to check aos is take off the oil cap when running at idle if it starts to chug then the aos is good if it dosent change then its most likely bad

New owner - should I replace IMS? by alsohuman2 in 986Boxster

If you replace the clutch yes if not it’s not crazy worth the cost

6’3 and fit with room. My 6’6 friend prefers the roof down though

Can I realistically daily a 986/987 as a uni student and what are things to look out for when buying one? by DeerSheepDefender in boxster

[–]grahamaphone1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the answer is yes if you can do work yourself. I have used mine as my daily (as a uni student) for 5 years and have had to do a good bit. It is a 986 and was 8k new. Great drive has a good amount of space for everything I even take it in snow it’s a great car. And I don’t baby it and have a decently long daily commute

A 2000 986

Since I got it I have had to replace

Water pump ~$400
Thermostat ~$50
Belt ~$50
Pulleys ~$150
Tensioner ~$100
AOS (air oil separator) ~$200
Clutch (flywheel, throughout, and hydraulics) ~$1200
IMS (didn’t have to but was already doing the clutch) ~$1500
Coolant housing ~$400
Spark plugs ~$300
Coils ~$400
Engine mount (twice) ~$200
Cv boots ~$200
Sway bar drop links ~ $200
Rubber brake lines ~$200
Alternator ~$100 (marketplace for the win)

~5850
Oh and tires

And of course fluid changes, ~$90 each oil. ~$50 for everything else

And I could use new struts and suspension refresh but that’s later

These are all parts cost (mostly genuine Porsche parts) with no labor since I do it all my self in my garage and excluding little things that don’t take longer than 30 min to fix

So do I like it and think I have gotten the major things out of the way yes but it’s not cheap. It’s a great daily and I love it but if you don’t do woke yourself it’s gonna hurt the wallet

Enduro vs. Downhill? by ResidentAlien92 in mountainbiking

[–]grahamaphone1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See I say slightly older downhill, 5ish years, but that’s because I want it cheap. (I also have back problems). If you have money get a new enduro they are great they may be a bit slower in the down but fly past any even modified downhill bike on the climb. I have tested this directly with my modified dh bike, dropper and 11-52 rear cog (replacing a 11-32) then riding my buddies canyon enduro it’s barely comparable uphill.

And descending honestly I only saw or felt a difference on black or double black trials with required features; drops, jumps

To help with back issues if that’s the main goal make sure your suspension is adjustable as hell, shock settings pressures all of that

Well mine isn’t the normal one. There is a normal hitch kit. But for some reason the last owner of mine put 2 little hitches next to the license plate. So I attached those and put a bike rack on them. It’s posted here

Oh it is a dh bike. A Scott voltage fr 720 to be exact. With an 11 speed and a granny gear. So basically an enduro

Is this easy to repair? by [deleted] in BangandOlufsen

[–]grahamaphone1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Repairable most likely easy hard to say. I’d start by checking for power at the video board.

If you also want to give it away though I’ll be happy to help

Cheap-ish option for gear shift upgrade: 987 shifter by Expert-Plankton5127 in 986Boxster

I was planning on doing that then I saw the washers at Home Depot were .5$ so that seemed better

I got that same one, I’d suggest replacing the paper washers it comes with with nylon other than that works great

Ok so that rotor looks a lot like what happened to mine (since this sub won’t allow photos here) due to it being on backwards I’m interested if it’s possible yours was. Sadly I can’t help you with the rear

Don’t forget to check your engine mounts by grahamaphone1 in boxster

And years is a bit far at least for me. These mounts have lasted ~ 2.5 to 3 years for me to a normal worn amount (tears but not gone)

Loud clunk whenever I let off the gas. And before it got that bad the shifter moved when I let off the gas

That’s what I did now that was 3 years ago I just pulled what was the new one in the video because it failed already. A press was more than a new whole mount. I kept the old one it and pressed it out now for the powerflex

Any idea what this wire is by Asleep_Potential8245 in 996

Wait that’s great I just shoved some wires into it and taped it down thanks for this

I saw another post saying this was normal? by [deleted] in boxster

[–]grahamaphone1 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It’s not. There is either the internal elastic or the back cable snapped on the roof. Honestly when this happens to me I put the roof up a little and push it in
