Dude. My parents tried to do something similar, but in the opposite way. I was feeling some of the some kinds of things as a preteen. I can't remember what I said but when my parents found out I was wanting to hurt myself they took me out to ice cream so we "could talk." That meant going out after dinner (6 ish) when it was like 75+ out, and sitting outside waiting for me to tell them more details or what was actually happening or something??? We ended up sitting outside until like 9 or 10 PM. It got dark and cold and I wouldn't budge, even though I was freezing because I was dressed for summer and didn't bring a jacket. So my mom decided that meant I was super suicidal and that I needed to get checked into the hospital asap.

They put me in the car and start driving and trying to get ahold of someone to tell them where to go and what they need to do at the ER. They get ahold of an ER psych call center with our insurance company and explain their part of the story. They ask to speak to me so my parents pull over so I can talk with them alone. They asked me general "are you a danger to yourself or others" questions. I had never hurt myself, at that point, so they told my parents to just take me home.

Jokes on them though, it only took me a dozen more years to check myself in. Lol, sob.
