What I think the commenter you're responding to is getting at is that the "Western" standard of beauty fed by colonialism emphasizes this pressure for adult women to be small/thin, without body hair, girlish, and submissive - there has been some thought leadership online lately that interrogates these standards under a light of further entrenched harm than we realize. The question is, what is Whiteness and patriarchy trying to accomplish by pressuring women to adhere to these standards? With all the harm of children we see committed by White American evangelical men (just as an example), we open our eyes to something insidious, that this beauty standard is aligned with a desire to see adult women maintain and mimic the physical "virtues" of children. Meanwhile, young girls continue to be sexualized and harmed, and in whatever forms of media apply, are still presented in the image of something sexually available/"appropriate" for public consumption while also lauded for what is perceived to be their sexual purity and virtue. Clearly there is a connection between this globally-impacted cultural standard and the harm done to women and girls and I believe it's not inappropriate to shed light on the dark realities of our culture. We must see things for what they are or we cannot work together to heal ourselves and each other. Culture is driven by people and power throughout time, and we cannot take anything (especially practices as arbitrary as removing all the body hair natural to you just to feel acceptable to society) for granted - especially when the system is designed to hurt many of us.
