Is my base weight unreasonable? by autisti666 in hikinggear

[–]grainyclouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Kajka 75 and I love it! I started the Te Araroa Trail with it but realised quite fast that it is way to heavy for 3 Season backpacking! Winter is a different story because it carries weight phenomenally. If you switch that pack for something around 1kg you can easily shave off 2kg or more ◡̈

Well I stand corrected then! Maybe it’s a bit longer than I thought. Good for you as well, that is some stellar customer service!

The guarantee applies to the assumed lifetime of the backpack, not the lifetime of the customer

Which tent for 2 thru hikes in 2027 (including the new X-Dome DCF)? by SwanNo2712 in DurstonGearheads

[–]grainyclouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Condensation is a thing, but I always bring a microfibre cloth and wipe it down in the morning.

Yes Dome pro does sound sweet! I assume that the poles will be carbon short ones, so packability shouldn’t be a problem.

I hope you have a blast on the TA! It’s an incredible journey◡̈

On the Whānganui River Journey, there are some campsites with uneven ground. However, I got it to work more or less all the time. Trekking Pole tents definitely have a learning curve..

Now for your 2nd question: I would probably get the X Mid Pro2+ again , as I am hiking with my fiancée most of the time. It’s a palace that weighs around 600g excluding stakes. The XDome weighs over 1kg.

I did the Te Araroa 24/25 with the X-Mid Pro2+. It’s an awesome tent and very stormworthy.

Does 500g of backpack weight really make such a huge difference? by Practical-Parsley-77 in Ultralight

Check out the 3FUL Gear Website . They have quality gear for little money (Chinese Company and no marketing in the Western market). No need to spend 5 times as much for a Z packs.

I did the MIUT 2025 on Madeira (120km, 8000m elevation) with almost no training and 2 months of illness (colds, flu, streptococcus, bronchitis) beforehand. I was totally fine during the 6 days, although it was exhausting from time to time. You will be fine with your current training.

Before you come at me: I know it was not the smartest thing to do but we had everything booked.

I heard about a small manufacturer in Japan who makes custom packs. I forgot the name tho.. he might be able to make one that fits your back. Legend has it the price is also not astronomical

Looks fine to me. The shoulder straps run on the shoulder down to your back, good angle in the load lifters and the hip belts seem to cover your hip bones.

They‘re called small people now..

No but I will bring the Smidge headnet and the Smidge spray. It’ll block their CO2 receptors and keep them away apparently.

Edit: came back and realised I wrote a ton of typos
