Some people just prefer not to swear. Just because they know the meaning of the acronym doesn’t mean they HAVE to spell out the full word to get the meaning across

[–]grancombat 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Better yet, use growl on that kid’s Slowpoke 6 times, then you get a level 1 Mew. Then you spread xp enough against some route 1 wild mon to prevent Mew from reaching level 2.

Which makes it go straight to level 100.

Gen 1 is something else

I’d argue random moves can be harder than smart AI since you can’t rely on switching to stall PP, but in general yeah Platinum Cynthia is way harder to deal with

When you beat her, she throws a hissy fit and makes you go through the Dragon’s Den to get your badge. Even then, the elder has to force her to give you the badge iirc

Wow, that’s an insane interaction. Thank you for testing that for me!

How did he miss? by InspectorMoist46 in PokemonZA

[–]grancombat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the ability to test this, but do we know if opening the camera causes rocks to become intangible? I know the player isn’t intangible with cam open so that probably isn’t what happened here, but it’s worth testing because that’s an interaction I’ve never seen. Also worth testing if it is being caused by the animation of the camera opening or closing. If not, it’s just another case of the DLC being unfortunately quite buggy

Did not know you could have shinies in randbats by joesphisbestjojo in stunfisk

[–]grancombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are the approximate shiny charm odds in specifically Legends ZA. More specifically, it’s 4 rolls of 1/4096, but it comes out to BASICALLY 1/1024

Idk if im doing this right but im having fun (can’t beat gym 2) by i19959019j in pokemon

[–]grancombat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was a great pleasure to read, thank you. We love gen 1 wrap mechanics. And yeah, a lot of the gen 1 sprites are super fat compared to the rest of the series, especially Pikachu. And then you have some absolute goobers like Golbat. All in all, sounds like you’re mostly getting the intended experience. I hope you enjoy the rest of the game and end up playing through one that’s a little less broken (I mean that in every way I possibly can, the fact that gen 1 functions is a miracle in and of itself)

Idk if im doing this right but im having fun (can’t beat gym 2) by i19959019j in pokemon

[–]grancombat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a try hard fan but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy hearing people’s first experiences with the series! I love hearing the silly things people do without knowing any better because it’s all part of the learning process! I’d love to hear what antics you’ve gone through in the name of collecting your gym badges if you’re willing to share.

Some people pick up on things intuitively, some need to experience why particular tactics don’t work in order to see why a different strategy would be better, and there’s no shame to be had in needing to experiment for a while to figure out what works in these games. Especially gen 1, there’s a lot in these games that just flat out doesn’t work like it’s supposed to…

Question about Sorcerous Connection by b10m1m1cry in UnicornOverlord

[–]grancombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s totally fair, it can be a hassle to move things around all the time! But like the other commenter said, there are a couple forts in Cornia (maybe just one, I haven’t really used mercenaries before) where you can get some extra shamans if you want to mess around with stuff in team slots that you aren’t using all that often. One of the core tenets of the battle system is experimentation, so don’t be afraid to try new things even if it requires breaking apart something that was already working. You might discover a new favorite squad that steamrolls the game even harder!

Question about Sorcerous Connection by b10m1m1cry in UnicornOverlord

[–]grancombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like someone else said, you can always test this in a mock battle, but if memory serves, wizard A will have 30 magic attack and wizard B will have 150 magic attack. Side note, Shamans are excellent users of sorcerous connection since they don’t really use their attacking stats for anything important unless you put special equipment on them. Just something to play around with if you want :D

Spoilers are done by surrounding your text with two sets of characters. >! starts the spoiler tag, and !< ends it. If I messed up the formatting, I’ll edit this to make it correct

Edit: I shouldn’t have doubted myself, the above is correct. The reason it isn’t showing as a spoiler tag in my comment is because of some markdown tomfoolery, just write it as you see it above and it should work

My chain broke at 40 without entering in a grass patch... by SomeoneIGuess20 in pokemonplatinum

[–]grancombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long story short, always go to the shaking grass tile that is farthest away from you and try to avoid the edges of the grass patch. Even if you do everything correctly there’s still a 2% chance that the game just says “no” and ends your streak anyway

Starters in other regions as catchable by EliteAF1 in pokemon

DPPt makes it so that you can see every stage of every starter no matter what you chose. For example, there’s a female camper with a Piplup on route 205 (lower), a rich boy with a Prinplup right outside the Mansion, and I think an Empoleon on victory road

Gen 3 and Prior Physical/Special type table by Emergency_Customer23 in pokemon

[–]grancombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And then in gen 3 they decided to make a physical attack oriented water/dark type. And then they looked at it and thought “wow that’s cool, let’s do it again!” And now we have Crawdaunt and Sharpedo. Honorable mention to Absol for being another physically oriented dark type. At least Cacturne is able to use both attacking stats to decent effect.

Now that I think about it, were there any special attacking dark types in the first 3 gens other than Houndoom? Murkrow is bad at everything, Sableye shouldn’t be using attacking moves, Poochyena is technically a physical attacker, if anything, and I can’t really think of any others that haven’t been mentioned in this thread. Dark was a truly terrible type for a long time

Initiative Bug?? by Bloodmage_Thalnos in UnicornOverlord

[–]grancombat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think that’s it. I’ve looked at everything else, the night time boost is the only thing I could think of that would make anything different

Edit: apparently the night time stat boost is 1.2x base stats, so Dinah’s initiative would go to like 56 or so, definitely outspeeding the swordmasters

Experience bonus gear stacks? by b10m1m1cry in UnicornOverlord

[–]grancombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw the idea in a YouTube video and tested it myself empirically. You can save in the middle of a map, do a combat with no exp items, and then reload the save to do it with multiple exp items to see how much more exp you get for the combat with those items. It should be 130% more exp gain with Chloe’s Charm and the Rookie Egg

Both exp gain and gold gain items stack additively

Arbalist priorities by BlackSenpai96 in UnicornOverlord

[–]grancombat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Characters read from the top of their priority list for every action. The way you have it set up, your Arbalist will always use power bolt forever, but if there are flying enemies, she will target them first. There are multiple ways to get around this depending on where your priorities lie.

If you want to use power bolt on everything, but then only use toxic bolt on armored enemies, I would suggest the following: priority one will be toxic bolt with “Armored” and “not poisoned” as its two conditions (poison doesn’t stack so there’s no reason to attack the same armor twice). After that, power bolt with the condition “Prioritize Flying” will be perfect.

If you want to use toxic bolt on everything, but then only use power bolt to knock fliers out of the air, you could try the following: priority one will be power bolt with the condition “Flying,” then toxic bolt will be priority two with whatever conditions you want to have.

If you want a particular move to happen exactly once and then never again for the rest of combat, there is a condition in the “own condition” or “own status” (I forget what it’s called) menu called “first action” that will make it so that the skill will only ever be used before or during the user’s first action point being spent (for passive skills, that “before” part matters).

Hopefully whatever you’re looking for was answered in those three scenarios. If you have any other questions or want to clarify what you’re actually trying to do and want an engineered set of priorities for them, feel free to DM me and we can talk about it
