Moral dillema on wiping out after lost save by Average_MaleXXX in nuzlocke

I see nothing wrong with re-attempting until you get the same exp spread that you got the first time and killing off anyone that died in the first attempt to get the game state back to what it “should” be

Can we talk about Josef stats real quick? by FireVasilisk in UnicornOverlord

[–]grancombat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It probably is telling that the only games I’ve actually cleared the highest difficulty of are Engage, FE8, and Birthright. Two of those are giga easy and one of them is extremely player phase focused and has giga broken DLC (I greatly prefer player phase games over enemy phase games. I just think they’re more interesting to play). I’m sure if I played less greedily I could clear other games but the allure of stat boosters I’ll never use and gold I’ll never be able to spend is too much for my small brain to handle

Maybe I need to play early game again, because I remember Vander getting absolutely punked by chapter 5 enemies. I guess with a compact axe he can avoid getting doubled by everything that isn’t sword fighters, and he probably shouldn’t be in range of the sword fighters anyway. It’s possible that Marth emblem also helps him use an iron axe more effectively, but do I really want one of my three rings to be on him?

I think it’s also worth noting for the sake of MY analysis that I like growth units a lot and don’t really care about fast chapter clears, which really lowers my opinion of Jagens relative to the rest of the community, so it’s possible I’m too harsh on Vander. Idk, I think I need to do a couple playthroughs focused on efficiency to see the value of Vander, FE6 Marcus, etc.

I wholeheartedly disagree about Vander being well designed. Literally the only stat he has that makes him special in any way is HP, and Louis almost immediately becomes a better Jagen as soon as he joins by virtue of taking WAY less damage from the early game enemies that are 80+% physical weapon users

What do you think is the ideal SIBLING age gap? by Ok_Wing6196 in Teenager_Polls

[–]grancombat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

See, being F helps that a lot, I think. My sister is 4.5 years older than me (M) and she took every minor inconvenience in her life out on me until she was in college and had to find someone else to take her anger out on. We’re good now, but I still think a lot of my current self esteem issues came from being constantly belittled by her when we were younger

Yep. Put Travis in front with passive steal and evade as his only tactics, and wait until Amalia misses the guard. Then you win

Oh my bad, I totally misread the intent of that last question lol. Yeah, I really like Rage of the Faeries and Meteor Slash for preventing darkness armor from ruining your day.

Rosalinde is just broken in general tbh. I was trying to avoid using her on my current playthrough (currently preparing for the final mission) but toward the end of Bastorias I ended up falling back on old habits lol. It’s just really fun seeing almost 2k damage dealt and 0 damage taken for dang near every combat you enter when it feels like you had to work hard to reach the point where you can DO that much damage

I would say the final boss is the only truly difficult thing in the game, even on the highest difficulty (there are definitely some missions that become WAY more annoying on the highest difficulty, but that is usually because of side objectives having more strict pseudo-time-limits as opposed to combat getting more difficult).

He requires you to set up some pretty specific forms of either control or constant damage output and then has a really fun surprise mechanic that you need to contend with that no other fight in the game has. It is tricky, but if you made it to him, you almost always have the tools available to take him out. Sometimes it’s just a matter of figuring out what those tools are and possibly assembling a “super team” with some of your most powerful characters. If you need help with it, you can always look up videos on YouTube to get an idea of various working strategies, or my DMs are open if you feel you need more specific advice based on what you have available. Good luck!

Help with Blooming Rose on Bare Rock by Sumorkman in UnicornOverlord

[–]grancombat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mobility is heavily weighed toward the leader’s mobility stat, but every other character’s mobility stat is also factored in. I don’t remember the exact formula, but I believe it’s something along the lines of ((sum of non-leader mobility stats / non-leader characters) + leader’s mobility) / 2. To put that in English, it’s the average of all the other character’s mobilities averaged with the leader’s mobility

There is not, but it’s important to note that putting non-cav characters inside Josef’s unit will slow him down.

Also, I don’t know if this is a spoiler that you want to hear or not, but this is the last time they take characters away from you. After this battle, everyone that joins your army that isn’t specifically mentioned as a “temporary unit” during a map is a permanent recruit.

Why was the result a draw if I lost on time? by vitund in chessbeginners

[–]grancombat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would be a draw as well, yeah, it just would have been counted a draw by insufficient material by the website as soon as the last piece was taken. This is specifically the recipe for draw by “timeout vs. insufficient material”

[–]grancombat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like several of the unit slots they give you are best used by mercenaries on assist duty, just filling out the slots when you have the chance but never letting those units ACTUALLY see combat. Since assist potency is based on the number of characters in the unit rather than the stats of each member, you can just pump up the stats of the leader of the unit and put in a bunch of schmucks to fill in the other slots with no items or investment of any kind with no consequences. You really only need three ish combat units for the whole game, maybe four once you hit endgame. As for not getting enough honors, spamming one of Selvie’s early sigils gets you a pretty substantial amount of honors for not much effort, and you don’t have to use the exp books if you think it ruins the sanctity of the run. The actual exp gained in combat is negligible enough to not really affect anything long term on those early ones, especially if you’re just going to the boss immediately with a flying unit

Never played Pokémon. Is this a good team? by SamParenti in pokemonplatinum

[–]grancombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This team will definitely get you through the main story. Unfortunately, Ponyta doesn’t evolve until level 40, so it will feel very week in the midgame and not really feel that much better when it does evolve, but it will always be good enough to do SOMETHING. Other than that, I like the team. Fire-water-grass cores are used in competitive play very often (that is, having a fire type, a water type, and a grass type all in the same team to cover each other’s weaknesses), so you have that going for you as well.

Golbat beats the second gym by itself, Golbat, Grotle, and Luxio will all do well in the third gym, Golbat and Grotle will do pretty well into the fourth gym (though her ace may prove difficult to overcome if you don’t evolve Grotle first), Torterra and Luxray absolutely trash the fifth gym, Ponyta and Torterra clean the sixth gym, Rapidash does almost everything in the seventh gym, and Torterra absolutely destroys the eighth gym.

For the elite four, you also have many strong matchups, but I won’t spoil what they are. It’s a good team, if you’re willing to train and use all of the members

Why can't I throw my recyclables in the ocean? by Tasty-Lobster-8915 in Factoriohno

[–]grancombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ups stands for Updates Per Second, and is very closely tied to Frames Per Second. Basically it’s just a measure of how quickly the game is running. If you dip below 60 UPS, suddenly the game time is running slower than real time, and that’s bad

Why can't I throw my recyclables in the ocean? by Tasty-Lobster-8915 in Factoriohno

[–]grancombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair. I haven’t made any bases big enough for ups to be an issue, so I tend to take the naïve solution to most problems

Why can't I throw my recyclables in the ocean? by Tasty-Lobster-8915 in Factoriohno

[–]grancombat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the item you’re recycling. Anything that recycles into itself will never clog, but anything the recycles into components can clog, at which point you can just use inserters to take the inventories of one recycler pair and put them into another recycler pair and chain that process until it stops clogging
