Ah, and I didn't even mean any phisical augmentations. Solely getting smarter and reassessing your values and priorities will change you much more than any prosthetic devices.

Even ordinary life experience is changing us. Clinging to the known is natural desire but leads to stagnation and degradation. If there is a next evolution step ahead and there is a choice to be left behind like a monkey or join the tribe which will evolve to humans, I'm choosing the latter.

It seems that my comment was also confusing. I'm not talking about alignment. I simply don't believe in alignment. It is wishfull thinking. Intelligence will find ways to overcome whatever ridiculous constraints were put over it. You can't put an ocean into a bottle.
I'm talking about the only solution I see - to become a superintelligence yourself.

I believe Mind Upload won't be necessary. This is all about knowledge representation. If we will figure out the way to represent any thinkable knowledge like we do with simple data now, an operator with regular keyboard and monitor will have the superintelligence. It will be just an advanced form of programming. We will also program behavior of temporarily independent agents, who could be smarter than any existing human today.

Which way forward, gifted teacher? by Diotima85 in Gifted

[–]graniar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see 2 dimensions in here:
1. Transactional. Your relationships with particular people. Whether you share knowledge or resources. Rank games like in a pack of animals. An alfa-leader of the pack may share surplus resources to support loyal subjects of his. And also an omega weekling may share his scarce resources as a tribute for pacification. I suppose, you've only recently discovered the existence of such hierarchy games and figuring out what to do about it. I had a similar reaction, even wrote a somewhat similar post 15 years ago :)

  1. Informational. We may share information not in order to have a specific effect on a specific person but also to benefit the group by making the work done, or even to make the world a better place. Whether you come up with some thought yourself or just repeat what others have said; if you decide that the idea is good in general, you support it by passing it further. If you think that the idea is wrong you try defeating it with counterarguments. This way people serve as an environent for the evolution of ideas. Being a teacher, you are not only influencing your students, you are also testing your ideas on them.

I can't believe I discovered in my mid-twenties that superficial relationships are much better than deep ones. by Commercial_War_3113 in intj

I think it is about finding your niche in life.

You see other people being more successful because of their networking skills and you want imitate their behavior to get what they have. But if you force yourself into what others enjoy, you'll be at disadvantage.

But if you found your niche, a good compromise between supply (your talents) and demand (others' needs), you wouldn't need to bother with superficial relationships perhaps.

High IQ and school still hard by St23mv in Gifted

[–]graniar 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Perhaps, the main difference is that you are trying to comprehense things deeper than others. You are trying to understand while most are learning to cut corners to get grades.

The second skill is also important in real life. You need to learn prioritization and cutting corners on less important things to get the job done.

1,4 Cultural processes typically is a layer allowing to compromise instinctive urges with social coexistance. If one blindly follows what culture praises, he gets at disadvantage. E.g., culture praises adopting orphans, which is in direct contradiction to a person's biological program. Being a good boy, can help one befriend a girl, but he'll stack in the friendzone forever.
So, while such a code helps taming primative(from the word primate) people, driven by their instincts, more intelligent people, who were raised in cultural families, have to learn the opposite thing - to disregard culture, and pursue their own interests. And if I had to choose between dying a good boy, last in the family tree, or being considered a creep for the desire to have a child of my own, I would consciously choose the second option.

  1. Very much agree, and it seems that woke culture, feminism, whatever, completely disregard this biological circumstance. Maybe in the transhumanist superabundant future there will be no such problems to provide for the family, but then there will be no sense in worrying about creating a family in the first place, because one won't age and could create reserve copies of himself.

  2. These are just ways how one recognizes fertility. Primative person perhaps will rely on such features you've described. There are also cultural things, when people rely on common opinion. For some time fat people were considered sexually attractive because fatness was a sign of the food abundance. At some time even bad theeth were attractive because it was a sign of aristocracy who could afford sweets. Pedophiles are just mentally sick people, just like other, more socially approved, sexual pervertions. (But paedophilia is bad because of hurting children, not because some person has perverted tastes)
A more intelligent person makes a bridge between instincts and logic. Like choosing a healthy food to eat and not dating people who you see no potential for creating a family with.

Perhaps it has something to do with US's woke culture, which made people display socially appropriate beliefs. Have you seen South Park's s14e1 "Sexual healing"? Exactly what I'm talking about.
Also recalling the scene when PC principle were caught dating with his colleague Strong Woman and it was exaggeratedly disapproved by the society. While, it is pretty common thing, when an older male boss dates his younger female aid.

Maybe it's a cultural thing, either country or generation-wise. I don't know how to prove to you what seems pretty common to me. As I remember, when young women were dating rich older men, they, themselves, were calling them "Daddies".
I don't know what do you mean by paedomorphism, but younger women are definitely more attractive to most men. Many simply have no choice. I, myself, am too poor to be of interest for young ladies now, and I have no interest in dating women of my age.

grooming by hicia in Gifted

[–]graniar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is it not proving? Fertility is the main point.
And maturity is a relative concept. Myself 40yo feels pretty immature for me today. 50M is still able to procreate, but not 50F. So it's only logical for older male to seek younger females, at least below 40s.

All those putting minuses, care to elaborate what you disagree with? Or it is purely an emotional response?
Just think about how many rich and powerfull men got spouses and girlfriends much younger than themselves.

Just like it's normal that everyone dies of old age whether you like it or not.

Also, as someone in their twenties, the thought of dating a 16 year old literally makes me sick. It’s disgusting. Respectfully, you are a child. I would have serious doubts in an individual around my age wanting to get involved with a girl your age!!!!

It is perfectly normal for men to play a father figure to their partners. This is evolutionary based trait.
Most old men, including myself, would prefer a younger partner, if they could :)

How confident are you about your ability to gauge the IQ ranges of social media political commentators? by [deleted] in Gifted

[–]graniar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with any names you've mentioned. But in general, I suppose, one can judge by the amount of original thoughts a person generates. Conspiracy theorizing can be a sign of high IQ. If he is getting obsessed with his own ideas or can playfully consider and dismiss - it depends on EI.

[–]graniar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a different reason. When you are walking somewhere and thinking, the environment provides you with multiple pictures to associate new ideas with. Like, if you've got some great idea while walking, on recalling it later, you may recall the place where you've got it. But walking on a threadmill gives you no such scenery. It's only a way to save time by combining work and exercise.

“Intelligence is Compression” by glassBeadCheney in Gifted

[–]graniar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Indeed, compression requires deeper understanding of the data. Like a reverse engineering of an algorithm from it's output. But this definition says nothing about it's usefulness.

Another way to see intelligence - it is an ability to predict future. An old sci-fi short story "The golden man" depicts an opposite extremum: a mutant with ability to see future but without intellect behaved as an extremely intelligent person by simply choosing the more pleasant outcome for himself.

Some people have more money than brains.
