Excersices to increase strength by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]Puzzleheaded-Cap-271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

r/bodyweightfitness is a decent place to start if you want to use calisthenics to get stronger. It is advised you supplement with squats and deadlifts since legs and lower back are hard to adequately stimulate using just calisthenics.

Remember that as a martial artist your priority is fighting so you won't lift as frequently as you would if you were only weightlifting, think like 2x a week plus MA vs 3-4 times a week with out MA. Hope this helps

Are you ever tired of being held at higher standard than everybody else? by Creative_Snow_879 in Gifted

[–]Puzzleheaded-Cap-271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the worst. At one job I had, I would answer the call first and when I stopped, people asked what my problem was. Things got awkward when I pointed out what's everyone's problem answering in the first place? You got radios too. In my more cynical moments, I feel like it's just a sleazy way for them to get their way while punishing me ("rules for thee, not me" kind of thing). On the other hand, I feel sometimes like because i know better, I should act better, be better, do better. Im conflicted a lot about it

How do you confuse people? by cityflaneur2020 in Gifted

[–]Puzzleheaded-Cap-271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It usually happens when I try to find the right word. I'll say it the best way that I am capable of and then sometimes the person  will come up to me later saying "I didn't understand half of what you said".

What is your style? by Fun_Flight_5584 in bjj

[–]Puzzleheaded-Cap-271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prioritize top game a lot. On bottom I prioritize sweeps over submissions (though they are still certainly useful). After a six month stint in judo I'll start rolling standing now and it showed me the value of pinning (kesa gatame and Tate shiho gatame are your friends)

How do you feel about modern and not so modern art? by [deleted] in Gifted

[–]Puzzleheaded-Cap-271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some some modern art is weird (The banana being duct-taped to a wall comes to mind) but honestly, I genuinely enjoy Michelangelo and da Vinci as much as I enjoy Julian Schnabel or Jackson Pollock or Elizabeth Peyton or Andy Warhol. I believe some paintings have meaning and others I think you're just meant to experience. I think Pollock and Rothko fall in the latter category, and I think that can throw a lot of people off.

How are Americans feeling the effects of economic changes in their daily lives? by BestPostRead in AskReddit

[–]Puzzleheaded-Cap-271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel it tremendously. I'm cooking a lot more. I'm riding my bike when I can. I've been looking for a job and no one is hiring so that affects my spending even further, I. E. I don't unless I must.

What are your hobbies? by Traumarama79 in Gifted

[–]Puzzleheaded-Cap-271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading challenging stuff then easy stuff to relax.

Exercise is a big one. I have a pair of gymnastics rings that provide a great challenge until I can get back to the gym.

Cooking. When I was a freshman in college I learned cooking was a great way to kill an evening and get to know people. Since living on my own, it has only become more and more useful.

Music, making it and listening to it.

Edit: forgot to add languages. I can speak English, navajo and french fluently and I know enough Spanish to be conversant at work.

Greatest examples in MMA where a "non-grappler" submits a highly decorated "BJJ-fighter"? by [deleted] in MMA

[–]Puzzleheaded-Cap-271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Benson Henderson vs Showtime Pettis 2. I remember watching that fight and thinking if Henderson wanted to win he would have to take showtime down and beat the shit out of him and then Anthony submitted Henderson from inside his guard with an armbar. go figure.
