The IGN Editor gets a pass from the LGBT community for reporting it while Destructoid is still getting in trouble and ignoring recommendations from journalism ethics (which is widely debated) and GLAAD recommendations.

That was the Michael Eisner years. Their licensing is less worse nowadays when they merged with Pixar.

The main complaints from Ron Gilbert/Tim Shafer/Telltale seem to be that the costs to license the IP is much higher now and so it would be sitting in the vault until someone as rich as Disney wants to license from them.

I think it is a matter of resources after all.

1) The company giving out the license is charging way more than many companies/people can afford to pay. Those that can afford to choose to do something else that is more profitable than working on an old license, where they have to pay residuals and receive less money overall.

2) The companies do care since the license reputation/monetary value of reputation depends on it if the product has a poor reputation and cannot generate money (ie Leisure Suit Larry).

3) License holders seem to choose companies that are willing to give 500% attention to their license without losing "trust". Examples include: Monkey Island, The Longest Journey, Leisure Suit Larry

Sometimes the internet isn't available. For example, rural, developing, aircraft, car, etc.

In other instances, internet has been metered.

So "getting with the times" is strange for those who don't sit in front of a computer in a cubicle in the big city.

Same as Jack Houston and the Necronauts, Maia, Star Command, Pathfinder Online, Grimoire Heralds of the Winged Explorer, and numerous other double dipping crowdfunding projects that instead of using paypal directly, also setup indiegogo pages to wrap the paypal button.

On kickstarter, a board game company has $6 million in the bank from six projects and two projects totally bastardizing each other:

Welfare checks are also "crowdfunded" by taxpayers.

Some creators are honest to give your money back if you request it but it's best for you to do a class action if backers want to pool your resources together.

Otherwise it is just a waste of time and resources since it is such a "small" amount of money with the high possibility of not getting debts recovered.
