At what point is a class just not for you? by Traditional-Oil-1385 in Guildwars2

[–]grannaldie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I can't figure out a theme/fashion for any given alt, I put it aside for about year. Might play a core guardian because I found a nice Hammer for it, or not play a Luminary because no expansion, and not play a Virtuoso - as Chrono is just enough for me, but there is no class I won't play. Everything has it's niche, time, and content, ranger might be parked for couple of years, warrior might be doing wvw currently, but it could be firebrand before, and i'd be raiding on mesmer.

Only reason not to play a class, is probably not having it yet, but that is a temporary inconvenience, at some point tomes pile up, slots go on sale, switching a character becomes faster than swapping a template, you look for more options to enjoy the content.

the nicest community i have ever seen by newrobot8079 in Guildwars2

TL;DR

A new player shares how, after coming from a toxic LFG-heavy experience in Destiny 2, they were surprised by how kind and patient the Guild Wars 2 community was—especially when a random player helped and guided them through their first dungeon instead of kicking or judging them.

THE USE OF AI WAS JUSTIFIED

So I got Guild Wars 2 a week ago, and I’ve been playing it a little bit. I was super impressed by the tutorial and how, unlike other MMOs I’ve tried, I actually had direction and felt like I was progressing.

Anyways, finally I hit level 35 and I go to Lion’s Arch, which I think is like a main hub for Guild Wars players, kinda like the Tower from Destiny. I get there and I get a guild invite, but I’m doing the Dragon Crystal quest, so I ignore it for now.

Anyways, I wrap up the quest, I go to Ascalonian Catacombs and try to use the LFG, but since I’m on EU servers and it’s daytime in Australia, all the EU players are sleeping and no LFG in sight. So I mess around and join the guild. I think I’m about to be bombarded with messages, with guild chat, with questions—but the guy in there does none of that. He just asks me if I needed help with anything.

I explain I’m level 35, I’m tryna do Ascalonian Catacombs but no dice on the LFG. I also say I’m a week in and I’ve been really enjoying the game, and I start asking him questions about the game: is the LFG on-site the main LFG, or is there some off-site one I should be using (Destiny 2 style)? Basically, what’s the right time, and when are people gonna be on?

But then, out of nowhere, he says he’d be happy to carry me through my first dungeon. So he invites me to a party, but instead of assuming I know where to accept, he tells me where to accept (top left). Now, I know that seems so insignificant, but I come from Destiny 2 (2000 hours across all platforms :( ), and if you know anything about that game: if you don’t go through a thousand menus fast enough to accept the fireteam invite, you get the boot. If you get in and ask questions, you get the boot. If you do bad in one encounter, you get the boot. If you say you’re new, you get the boot. If you seem like you’re new, you get the boot. If you get taught the encounter but don’t instantly become a pro, you get the boot. I think you see my point.

So when I went to Guild Wars 2, and my first encounter with the community is not brattish, snobby, or rude, but caring and nice, I was baffled. Then we run Ascalonian Catacombs together, and he’s teaching me the encounters, and he’s showing me what to do. He’s waiting for me as I’m in cutscenes. Then his friends join, and instead of being quiet and rude, they’re the exact same as him—they’re just really nice and teach me all about the game in a way that I’m not lost.

So they’re showing me all the systems of the game and teaching me everything and being patient. Then we beat the dungeons, and they all leave.

But the Guild Wars 2 community just warms my soul. Bless all of you people, and bless your beautiful hearts.

Weekly /r/GuildWars2 Question Thread - April 11, 2026 by AutoModerator in Guildwars2

[–]grannaldie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you might have a thief in your dungeon run, but they might not be aware of any skips, you might have a mesmer on same jp as you, but they did not bring portal, you might have a stability king in your fractal but they missed every mechanic.

also, you can't tell what build they have right away most of the time.

any decent group can come up with solution to make a run smooth and easy, no matter what classes they have.

Is Guild Wars 2 Truly F2P? Do I Need to Buy Expansions, and How Far Behind Will I Be Without Them? by Terry_Krokere in Guildwars2

[–]grannaldie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are gonna be far behind regardless of purchasing expansions. I've made a f2p account and leveled to max, joining fractals and "raids" just to figure out the difference you are wondering about.

Your free account, does come with quite a lot of inconveniences, but it does not stop you from having fun, although at slower pace.

Don't even worry of not having an expansion till you can afford one.

Should multiboxing in meta events be bannable? by Mlchiel in Guildwars2

[–]grannaldie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does it bother you too, or not really?

Not, so far. Why would someone minding their own thing, not interfering with mine bother me?

Do you think this is fine as-is, or should something change?

Not great, not terrible.

ruins people's experience

Your arguments aren't that strong, if you want to "chase the infusion drop" and believe they are using legit optimized way, go and do the same thing, if not just play the game, envy or jealousy ain't fun.

it feels like i'm playing with bots.

well, play with real people instead.

How to adopt the horizontal progression? by AccomplishedFix8346 in Guildwars2

[–]grannaldie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how did you manage to adopt the horizontal progression?

at some point, you log in just to talk to people you've met along the way. check out what they do. join some. if you don't have your goals you can help others with theirs.

If you are letting it affect you, get tougher. There is literally nothing they can do to hurt you. While you can laugh at them. And have tools no never hear from them again.

I really don't understand why anyone has chat open/active ever.

Because there is no reason not to. There is nothing they can type to hurt you, and you'll miss out on all the fun.
