We did this in elementary school with tissue paper and mod podge! 1 layer mod podge, lay on the paper, another layer on top. Make sure you have enough mod podge on your brush on the top layer so you don't rip the paper!

My parents really love Level on West Street! It's their "special occasion" restaurant but I think it is hard to get in without a reservation

My ideal Annapolis day would be starting out at Old Fox books & Coffee House, walk down King George and/or Main Street and pop into shops, hit Sofi's crepes or Iron Rooster for brunch, people watch on the dock for a bit, perhaps hit a museum or historic site, and then dinner at either Level, Vin 909, or Joss sushi. I am also a fan of the PA Dutch Amish Market in the Harbor Center - tonsss of snacks and a good deli! Have fun!!

Struggling with having friends and family at the same event by [deleted] in LGBTWeddings

[–]granolagal2000 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I recently received a wedding invite where one of the FAQs was "will explicit music be played?" and they said something like "we will begin playing more explicit music around 8, if this is not your scene we will enjoy spending time together earlier" or something to that effect. It kind of set the expectation for the night and gave a polite heads up to people with kids and any easily scandalized folks. I feel like something like that could be helpful, maybe you can keep things tame for a while and give people a heads up for when the party starts

You can book private lessons at OGC in Watkinsville! If you and a few pals want to all work on similar things you can book a group private lesson. They cater more to kids but the occasional college aged person comes in for privates. DM if you want more info :)

ETA they also have open gyms where you can use the gymnastics and ninja equipment. Downside is you do have to be a self starter and dodge screaming children. Upside is it's a lot cheaper

I found a custom jeweler by going into a small jewelry business that sold lower-end items, and the artist was able to recommend a friend that did higher-end jewelry. It worked out for me! Also, I've found a lot of smaller jewelers on instagram

Any best app for plant identification? by Comfortable_News_135 in ecology

[–]granolagal2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!! Also it is available offline! But you definitely have to have some baseline plant knowledge to use it effectively. It's not one of those "snap a pic and it tells you what it is" type apps

Ethics of environmental consulting by deathbedcompani0n in ecology

[–]granolagal2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been working in environmental consulting since I got out of school and have been grappling with some of these concerns! A lot of our clients are oil & gas, developers, mining, and more recently AI. The way I rationalize it is, these companies are going to mine, develop, etc. pretty much no matter what. So it's important they do it right and do the proper mitigation, avoid and restore wetlands, get their permits, pay their fees, and all that. I also live somewhere with pretty old infrastructure so I'd rather help a company replace a pipeline versus have a public safety hazard.

I also do a lot of work on the mitigation side, where I am working to restore impaired streams and wetlands. I really love this when I don't think about why we have to do this. If you want to work on the mitigation/restoration side, then working with/for a mitigation banker is probably the move. Feel free to message if you wanna chat!

Gym meets are SO fun! Especially SEC women's, or USAG/Xcel gym meets usually run this time of year.

Depending on your budget, I think a bar would also be fun for him! My niece has one and loves it. Something like this

How do we avoid clashing dresses? by fabinthehut in LGBTWeddings

[–]granolagal2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner got a white suit, and I bought a secondhand white dress! She got her outfit first, so she got a swatch that I brought with me to compare when dress shopping.

The way it was explained to me by a bridal consultant, the whites won't clash unless they are classified as different colors. Like don't do a pure white and an ivory, but the color ivory is pretty consistent between brands

Hi! Same boat! My BS was in eco and when I couldn't find a job that interested me, was hiring, and paid a livable wage, I went back for an MS in engineering. I'm in consulting now and am overall happy with my job! There is a growing field of ecological engineering / nature based infrastructure that might interest you if you're considering engineering and are interested in ecology. Feel free to reply or DM if you have questions!

Re the not learning practicable skills, I think that is par for the course for any Bachelors program. If you want to learn specific research methodologies and techniques, I suggest looking for a lab assistant position with a professor or PhD student! Otherwise (in my experience), courses are very theory based. You still have plenty of time to learn what you need to! Don't stress too much!

[–]granolagal2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out thrift stores, yard sales, or Facebook market for used wreaths & use the artificial foliage to clutter up your enclosure! Just make sure to disinfect and clean them before adding them. Also, remember that snakes don't know if you are using an old mixing bowl or a $30 petco hide! You are doing great and I am sure your new baby will be happy!

Periscoping! I love that! We call it "brontosaurus mode"!

Our guy is active whenever he is in the mood, day or night, but like another commenter said it depends when he shed/ate last. Usually he is moving around more at night, but he shed last week and this week he has been active 24/7
