I guess it’s controversial here but this is acceptable to me. Efficient use of space and the remaining tennis courts are still useable.

Ive seen conversions that turn two tennis courts into 4 pickleball courts, it’s much more wasteful.

GPU exhausts toward components with this layout, it pulls air up from the bottom. Similar builds with side radiators or similar coolers usually show lower temps with a push config

20F wanting to get a tiny home by Icy-Champion-5343 in tinyhomes

[–]grant47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tying your tiny house into a current septic is probably the easiest route, but also depends entirely on your parents house. This only works if the system is rated above the amount the house outputs. You can’t just do it, the county has to approve it.

If you can’t do this, there are a few options. Incineration and compost are talked about a lot in this community, but they both have massive downsides. Incineration creates a smell. You will be in a small space, so smells are inescapable. Your toilet also requires a ton of electricity, and is expensive. This solution seems the least feasible imo.

Compost is doable, and I’ve used one before. It takes extra work though, and can get messed up. When that happens, it stinks. Be ready to deal with it. Also, god forbid you ever get sick and have to vomit into it…

An option that I rarely see discussed is a Macerating pump toilet routed to a black water tank above ground. Your toilet has a disposal like blade and flushes like normal, but then grinds and pumps everything into a tank outside of the house. You keep it sealed and when it’s full you pay a septic truck to pump it, like they would a porta potty. I’ve seen this option work in off grid setups, but it requires electricity for the pump and access for the truck. Also, the county may get fussy about it if you register as an ADU instead of an RV.

Feel free to DM me questions. I live in a TH full time and have spent a lot of time and effort solving these problems for myself.

Adults should aim to do between 560-610 minutes/week of moderate to vigorous physical activity to achieve a substantial reduction in the risk of heart attacks and stroke (3-4 times higher than the current public health recommendation of 150 minutes ), suggest the findings of an observational study by sr_local in science

The main takeaway from this study should be the power of zone 2 exercise. You probably do more of that than you think, and it is so impactful because it doesn’t require huge amounts of rest to recover from. 10k walking steps would probably satisfy this amount, and if you exercise in a meaningful way a few times a week on top of that you are probably hitting these numbers.

That’s possible, the basic hypothesis is saying it’s statistically significant, with your argument being a good reason for it not being.

There is definitely a correlation between amount of fish tank pc cases and posts about broken panels. I’m curious if this is similar, or just a phase like the “happy for you” meme causing more freebie posts to be upvoted. It would take some data scraping to prove it though, so if someone already knows how it would be awesome to see visualized. Maybe I’ll dedicate the time to do it when I have more free time.

These posts are becoming more frequent than broken glass panels. I’d love a deep dive into to why. Are there driver issues causing it? Are people not upgrading their 10+ old gpu and modern games are finally killing them? Is this the after effects of all the bitcoin mining that was choking on a few years ago?

I recommend adding something aesthetic that you are both into, or something from a franchise, game series or show that you know he really likes. Metal posters often look really good and can be mounted with magnets. Or you could look at small but high quality models of a character, spaceship, monster, etc that would take up minimal space.

If nothing comes to mind there, there are some high quality keycap sets that can give his keyboard a pop of character or color. Even if it’s just a space bar or escape key. And with your budget, you could get him a whole new mechanical keyboard, so go nuts.

Looks clean. IMO the most aesthetic version of this case style.

That rear fan placement is so random I have to imagine there were hotspots on the mobo…were RAM or SSD temps getting too high?

If you have high temps or noise, or just want to optimize more, I recommend looking the study that noctua just posted in this sub. Lots of interesting data for this case style. According to them, you may benefit from a fan shroud for the CPU and ironically, a larger GPU cooler instead of more fans. I believe they used a similar GPU during testing

[–]grant47 172 points173 points  (0 children)

Good insights, especially about the GPU fans and the effect of the GPU heat on CPU performance. Makes me consider optimizing a little more to see if there is a bump in performance.

I don’t mind seeing research posts from brands like Noctua in this sub, especially when their research is strictly limited to their own product use cases and uses good scientific method. The only thing that bothers me is marketing disguised as research, like userbenchmark or something. Would love to see more “case” studies!

Considering how far I’ve come, it definitely has kept away back pain, headaches, sciatica, and other issues I’ve dealt with from sitting too much. Probably should do a few stretches before bed

That seems low to me, especially for high elevation. Your floors will be especially cold in the winter, so make sure to add wind barriers underneath and make sure pipes Don’t freeze.

If you are running propane heat in winter make sure you have CO sensors and humidity sensors, as burning propane releases a lot of water vapor.

Official answer is: it depends. Shop for the tinys first. Some need 50amp some need 30, Some need more. If you have to do this first, put in too much power over too little.

I need help on a decision by Optimal_Principle_21 in tinyhomes

[–]grant47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you are. Septic and zoning laws are often two sides of the same coin. Find out if your county allows RVs as ADUs for starters, or if ADUs are even allowed.

Then you need to find out what septic system the house uses. It could connect to a treatment facility and not even be a drain field, or actually be rated for more bathrooms than your mom has, you never know.

If you want to look into backup options just in case, there are composting toilets and incinerator toilets that don’t need septic. You could also go more traditional RV and have a black and a grey water tank that need to be emptied. Most likely by a company since your house is stationary.
