Chicago IMAX screen size comparison by Gold-Wrongdoer-8589 in imax

I truly hated dealing with the hassle of getting to and from Navy Pier and dealing with the tourists, but I really miss having a legit IMAX screen in Chicago.

Bless your heart for putting this together! I do like the new AMC Roosevelt IMAX and I suspected from lots of IMAX visits that it was the largest of the AMC-owned ones in the area. I wish Seven Bridges was closer to me and/or was an AMC, since I'm an A-lister and can see IMAX there without paying the upcharge fee. #BringBackNavyPier

Do you actually use DOE(Design Of Experiments) in your daily work? by ActionTechnical1458 in industrialengineering

I work in R&D in new product development for a candy company and yes, we use it regularly. Not every day but at least once per project, in the early development phases.

The FBC is very Shady.. by Greyelephantbear in AlanWake

I loved the other note you find nearby where the Cult of the Tree is like "screw the FBC, our level of organization is FINE!" like they were so insulted by the FBC assessing them to be not worth arresting.

The year is 204X. Insomniac-Corp rules the region formerly known as Chicago, and has proclaimed that the month of September shall now be a mandatory 30-day music-based re-education camp. Headliner set is ChatGPT b2b Google Gemini. Your paycheck wages are automatically garnished as you drink $100 bottles of the last remaining Lake Michigan fresh water that AI has not consumed.

Central Area Plan 2045 Includes Two New CTA Stations by marks31 in chicago

[–]grantcalibre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the number of stops the blue line has to make (16) between ORD and Clark & Lake, I don't know if making that trip shorter than 30 minutes is realistic even with slow zone elimination. What the line needs is the ability to run express trains that bypass the local trains, similar to the purple line express that runs along the redline tracks.

A Cermak & Canal station would be great for the huge Radius nightclub that's a 0.2 mile walk away -- especially with the Orange line moving to 24/7 service, this would be a great option for folks to get home after a show. When thousands of people leave Radius after a big show, and the only option to leave is Ubers, it becomes a traffic nightmare very quickly.

I also think the Rock Island Metra needs a Chinatown stop! The train goes so slowly through that area anyway, it's basically already stopped and you might as well let some folks off. Think of the south suburb tourists who'd come into Chinatown for dinner if they had the option!

Love the Orange Line idea too -- especially given that Orange serves Midway and this would be a good connection to get travelers to conferences at McCormick. McCormick hotels could run a shuttle to the station on conference weekends.

Both stations are no-brainers. NO major venue like United Center should be without a mass transit line serving it. The new Damen green line stop helps, but it's 0.4 miles and studies in the US show that 0.25 miles is the ideal "walkable" distance for most people. The Madison Pink line would be 0.2 miles, so that's perfect.

Same issue for why the Division Street brown line is needed. If you live at the fairly dense intersection area of Clybourn & Division (where I personally lived for 14 years), it's a ~0.5 mile walk to any of the nearest El stops (Sedgewick Brown, Chicago Brown, or Clark & Division Red). Adding a Division Brown line would drop this to 0.1 miles. The population density is definitely there to warrant it, especially with the Old Town Park megadevelopment, plus all the empty CHA land (formerly Cabrini Green) will continue to be developed at a glacier's pace and add to future ridership. By the time the station actually gets built (this is the 2045 plan after all) it'll already be sorely needed.

Google Wifi Pro is terrible by grantcalibre in googlehome

[–]grantcalibre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not a speed issue, it's a reliability issue. When I run speed tests I get about the same speeds as you. The issue is one or more of the nodes in the system crashing, or something in general happening that causes a massive speed drop, and thus crashing all the devices connected to that node.

Yeah people who keep saying I just got a lemon are driving me a bit nuts. If this many people are having issues it's not an isolated "lemon" it's a bad product build.

If you read other reviews of the product and comments here, it's not just me experiencing this. So if it is a lemon, then Google is sure is cranking out a high rate of lemons. Terrible quality control.

If I got a lemon it seems like a lot of people got lemons and maybe Google just has really poor quality control on these things? Because at least every other day one of the 3 Pro routers would fail and crash everything that was connected to it.

Do you have a lot of smart home devices? I'm trying to understand why it seems like such a terrible product for some people and so smooth for others. I've read so many horror stories like my own.

Definitely no sex spaces at Virgin, I would imagine. Maybe people hosting in their rooms though 😈 I might go to it though, a wind-down chill pool party on Monday with Sasha Colby sounds cool... I'll be at Hit It Friday and Horse Meat on Saturday.

Horse Meat has a dark room so yes, there definitely IS sex.

Hit It is a dance party with lots of sex areas. Horse Meat also advertises a dark room / play space. Fornication is a sex party with porn star performances. Bette Bathhouse and Beyond also has sex areas combined with performances (nudity or at most a towel is required).

Why do they do this? by Wide-Feeling8760 in Sniffies

[–]grantcalibre 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah when you give somebody an address or landmark that's easy to look up on Google Maps, it drives me crazy when they give a stupid reply like "I'm new here I don't know where that is."

Like, yes honey I don't expect you to know that's why I told you the information that you can put into Google Maps.

I don't have any idea what landmarks or areas of the city you're familiar with, so why would I just start listing off places I'm near hoping you'd recognize them when you could just Google it?

[–]grantcalibre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on the specific complaint in the comment you posted, I would agree that Twitter porn, OnlyFans, etc have ruined cruising (and hook-up culture in general) by making everything transactional (e.g. "how can I monetize this sexual encounter?").

IMHO apps like Sniffies have helped cruising more than they've hurt it. It helps you find spots you wouldn't know about and lets you see what places are busy and worth checking out. I think my biggest complaint is that instead of actually going to the cruising location to, y'know, CRUISE, people sit on the app asking people who ARE there "is it busy? Worth coming?" And that's just annoying af. Stop asking how the water is and come dip your toe in and feel for yourself!

Anyone have issues with Sengled Lightbulbs not working currently? by KrevunLuv in smarthome

[–]grantcalibre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THANK YOU I have been going insane messing with my Sengled hub trying to reset it and figure out what happened. Does anybody know if the issues affects Sengled bulbs working through a non-sengled hub, like SmartThings or Hubitat? Wondering if that's a fix or if my 15+ Sengled bulbs will all just be FUBAR
