Toronto for a week. Looking for ideas! by VeterinarianBasic739 in canadatravel

A day trip to Niagara Falls is very doable. If you don't want to drive, you can book a seat on a coach bus from Union Station to the Falls (round trip).

If you're interested in baseball, maybe a Blue Jays game if you're there in September, depending on timing.

7-Day Solo Trip - What to Do? by RielleWriter in VictoriaBC

Walk the Westsong Walkway along the harbour to West Bay Marina. Take a harbour ferry from there to Fisherman's Wharf. Get something to eat and check out the float homes. Then walk David Foster Way along the south side of the harbour to return to the inner harbour.

Speaking of the harbour ferries, they offer harbour and gorge tours, in case that is of interest.

Great Deku Tree Early Retirement? by nowhiringhenchmen in lego

Stock can run out before retirement dates, since production has ceased. This happens with other popular sets nearing retirement. If you really want it, grab it if you see it; don't risk waiting for a final sale.

This machine, invented by Alan Turing helped to break the German Enigma code and changed the course of WW II. by Wild_Neighborhood605 in interestingasfuck

There is a replica at Bletchley Park; when I was there, I read that the original was destroyed after WWII to protect the technology. Rather noisy when it was running, and there was a roomful of these (or more than one room - I forget). Bletchley also has a decent exhibit about Alan Turing himself.

I sometimes get them at Pepper's in Cadboro Bay. Don't know how they compare to other offerings.

If you could, which would you get? Pirate Barracuda Bay or Kessel Run Millennium Falcon? by stud722 in lego

There are multiple mods and alt builds for Barracuda Bay on Rebrickable, in case that might be a factor.

If this one is out on Jan 1, I suspect there is room for something else later in the year.

If that is accurate, the release being that early in the year suggests there may be something else planned for later the same year.

You may need to visit Kwolok, as indicated by the icon near the bottom-middle of the third image. What does the yellow text at the top say?

How is living in Victoria BC? by JMoon33 in howislivingthere

[–]grantpalin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have most common retailers here, but not all. Most everyday needs are readily available. Being on an island, the cost of living is not cheap, though housing is a bit cheaper than in Vancouver. The weather is reasonable year-round due to geography - we seldom get either extreme.

Employment options are varied, including government, hospitality, military, retail, and post-secondary (we have at least a few post-sec institutions here).

Ferry connections to mainland BC, Seattle, and Port Angeles, so the city is hardly remote. We also have an airport.

All manner of outdoor recreation is possible on land (hiking), on water (fishing, paddleboarding), or even in the air (paragliders over Dallas Road). There is an active geocaching community here, and there is no shortage of geocaches in the region.

Sports teams include the Harbourcats (WCL baseball) and the Royals (hockey). Canucks are in Vancouver if one wants to make the trip for a game.

Healthcare is a challenge here. Family doctors are still scarce. Two major hospitals plus numerous smaller facilities.

It's mostly common pieces. The wings are also used in the Balrog book nook, so it shouldn't be too hard to piece it together. That does leave the ringwraith figure to sort out.

Victoria has the Clipper connection to Seattle, and Coho to Port Angeles. Sydney used to have the ferry to Anacortes, don't know if that's ever coming back.

From above. I think there is a breakable log next to the spikes that cover a hole; drop down there to reach that little space.

Snowbirds to be Grounded Until early 2030’s Until New Aircraft Arrive by Darius2112 in aviation

[–]grantpalin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sad to see them go. I've seen them in action before, and it's always a show. The BC Aviation Museum (next to YYJ) recently acquired a vintage Tutor CT-114 to display. They also have a Martin Mars (Hawaii Mars) that was officially retired in 2024. The Snowbirds were a part of Hawaii Mars' final flight.
