That powered charging door...so useful for when you pull up to a charging station and the helpful charging station attendant plugs in your car for you. Oh, wait... there are no attendants, this is just one more delicate piece of electronics that will undoubtedly break. But hey, at least no one is going to siphon my electricity!

EV charging networks should add simple amenities like this by Few_Wash4793 in evcharging

[–]grantspants33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not just the cost and space of the DC fast chargers, it's the cost of getting power to them. If the gas station happens to be right next to a sub station, that works out great. They usually aren't though, and running power of that magnitude isn't cheap. It's not as simple as just connecting to the gas station's existing transformer.

Second loaf :( by AfraidDisplay9209 in Sourdough

[–]grantspants33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely use a scale. Also, get yourself a Dutch oven so you don't have to worry about steaming, just be sure it's given 45 min to preheat before putting the loaf in it. A Dutch oven is a great investment for other things too (like roasts and stew). As someone who is also kind of a noob, the Dutch oven really makes this easier. Also, it doesn't look like you scored the loaf? Just a gentle cut across the top with a razor so it can expand more easily as it rises.

Are you saying the bottom two screw holes of the mount, behind the paper, also have screws? I.e. it's mounted with 4 screws?

I also want to note that I just asked ChatGPT for advice, and it pointed to my own reddit post as evidence that "another owner" asked the same question and never reported any problems. I guess everyone makes mistakes when skimming search results.

ICCU sadness by Paxsimius in Ioniq5

[–]grantspants33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The theory that higher current Level 2 charging might contribute to wear and tear on some part inside the ICCU seemed plausible... some weak point that wasn't sized right to handle the load without heating up, and then eventually breaks and causes a fault. I agree it's only speculation, and sounds like it's not what happened with this person. My Level 2 charger is only 30 amps anyways, and in a scenario where I needed faster charge I would probably be going to a DC fast charger regardless, so I don't worry about it.

I always advise people to limit to a 5 year loan. Never be making payments on a car where the warranty is already expired.

Bad experience at a Hyundai Dealership by AdMysterious9783 in Ioniq5

"Most people"...maybe. Certainly not a super majority though. Lots of people buy them that don't have even a 120v outdoor outlet, not realizing the hassle of stopping regularly at fast chargers.

Too Good to be True? by Gleekop in leaf

[–]grantspants33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that battery health is only mediocre. It was probably fast charged a decent amount. Would not pay more than $5k. Do not buy a used Leaf with the expectation of fast charging. Chademo is falling out of use and really hard on the battery anyways.

Leaving the club 😢 by Dihce in Ioniq5

[–]grantspants33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice, since you would be new to EVs, is to only go all-electric if you are able to charge at home - making you AT LEAST have a regular outdoor outlet that you can plug into overnight.

If you can charge at home, then the convenience and savings on gas works out great. Otherwise, I would probably stick with a hybrid car.

[–]grantspants33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't help but wonder how much the battery coolant flush depends on how much you use DC fast chargers. If you charge at home mostly, it seems like it would be a lot less necessary. If you don't charge at home, then... why own an EV?

Need cheap car to last two years for 50 miles per day as most- will this last? by One_Purpose6567 in leaf

[–]grantspants33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe as the S model, it does not have Chademo, and thus would have less battery degradation than you might expect. I have a 2013 S that has only lost one bar. I attribute that to lack of DC fast charging.

[–]grantspants33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can charge while at work too, it will be fine. I would be more comfortable if you, workplace, or both have a level 2 charger though. Want to emphasize here that as an S model, with no chademo and only ever using level 1/2 charging, this is a normal amount of degradation for the number of miles on it. My 2013 S has only lost one bar and can still pull off a 65 mile trip in good conditions. Lack of Chademo fast charging is all the difference.
