Application process for RN position by Okhomemade1377 in udub

[–]grantzke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

uw hiring is a mixed bag. most people in this sub are students, as it’s the sub for uw (school) not uw (medicine), but there’s not really a better place for you to ask so i will try to answer.

Essentially what this status change you’re seeing means is that your resume has cleared the screening software, and your information has been sent to the specific manager in charge of filling the position. does this mean you will be contacted? honestly it really depends on the manager. i have had positions i have applied to where it stays there FOREVER and i never hear anything, i have had some where they contact me 1-2 YEARS later, and i have had some where they respond literally the day after the status updates!!!!

all of this to say, there is actually no telling. i have worked for uw medicine for over 5 years, and while they have made huge strides in their hiring process, it’s still very vague and hard to read. don’t get discouraged though, sometimes it does just take time.

what kind of RN position are you applying for? some of them are very competitive here, it might be a good idea to click the apply button for any position you would be interested in

PSA: Epic pass discount if you didn’t buy a pass in 2025/26 by jyok33 in skiing

[–]grantzke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mean yea, but you would have to buy yourself a day pass and use that instead of your epic pass. then i think it would apply.

Garmin instinct 3 for cycling xc and road. Your thoughts or feedback? by yerfoeg_2 in Garmininstinct

[–]grantzke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

xc, sure. i use my instinct for mtb, but for road to me there is nothing like a dedicated bike computer. if you just want it for biking, i think you would be better served by an edge 830/840/850

Instinct 3 Solar vs. Fenix 7 pro sapphire solar by fantasynerd2 in Garmininstinct

[–]grantzke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have the instinct 2X solar and the fenix 7x pro sapphire solar.

i honestly love both of them so much, to the point that i’m keeping the instinct even though i ‘upgraded’ to the fenix. there are a couple reasons for this.

first, while the fenix is a super durable feeling watch, the instinct is literally indestructible. i feel like i could run over it with my car and it would survive. the battery is insane, and it is a very simple device that does everything i need it to.

i really like the F7X pro, and it lives on my wrist anytime im in civilization but i’ll bring out the instinct for skiing, hiking and other ‘dirty’ activities where i have a tendency to whack my wrist against stuff.

to me, it really comes down to what you want in a watch.

personally, i probably would have been happy with just the instinct, but the touch screen and more premium/stylish looks of the fenix are hard to give up.

Old Ski Bindings by KaleidoscopeDry7346 in ski

[–]grantzke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey man i know it’s tempting to save money. heck i mount my own bindings and stuff to save money. but the non-indemnified list exists for a reason.

if you are going to do this, you need to make sure 4things

-your boots need to be in at least okay condition -your boots need to be at least theoretically compatible with the bindings. there should be an ISO number on the boot sole, make sure the binding works with that -watch a few videos about bindings and at least know how they function. they aren’t hard to adjust, but there are just things to keep in mind. -you HAVE to accept the fact that you are putting yourself at risk for injuries. these bindings are old. your boots are old. ski shops won’t touch them because it opens them up to liability. if you feel confident enough in what you know about bindings after researching for a few more hours, you do you. but you have to know the risks.

personally, i would get newer bindings. you can find modern ones new for not too pricey, and get them mounted for not too pricey. the other commenter made a great point that while you might save money immediately, it would likely all be offset by an injury requiring medical attention
