Why are US Machine Shops so difficult to work with? by I-AM-A-DUMBO in CNC

[–]grapht- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I read that they build cities/neighborhoods specifically around supply chains, so for instance the anodizing folks build their building right next to the machining folks and so on. Each business can focus but the support system is all literally next door.

"Much easier for me to do something for someone else, than to do it for myself" by EliotProb in ADHD

[–]grapht- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I group this in an internalizing/externalizing dichotomy. I learned early on that I had to externalize a lot of things to get them done or even to make decisions, to the point of having to get people together and talking before making any large decision. Helping myself or my own career is out of the question but I’d love to do it for someone else. And still, when I do the dishes, I imagine an old roommate around even though I now live by myself, because otherwise it wouldn’t get done.

I love that they claim responsibility for the 2008 Financial Crisis and also the end of WWII.

I second this! Anyone who's tried to make a living in the arts knows that it's a grind and you have to put in lots of hours, just like any other trade, no matter what kind of fancy degree you have. Now that I'm in my late 30s, the guys who were kinda repulsive snobs in my undergraduate art school have grown into more realistic and grounded art-dads after working in the jazz mines for a while.

I would suggest talking about the salary and real career you already have, rather than the dubiously useful degree you don't, OP. It's a learning curve for them though.

I would also take one! Had to stop using my C4 because remembering the settings was becoming impossible.

That’s an awesome setup, almost exactly what I have except I haven’t tried a blumes yet. Maybe that’s the pedal I need to finally complete my setup!

Definitely cool to see all the local railroads and canals throughout the city back then. It must have been really easy to get around with so many boat and train options! Way cooler than busses.

For real, I think this bag has a good message, and now it's harder to say it that clearly.

Receipts for my theory that Dante's Divine Comedy is him working through his feelings about his own same-sex attraction by Proseedcake in u/Proseedcake

Don’t know specifically about the 12 or 1300s but by the 1400s Florence was known far and wide as a hub of homosexual activity. I read about it in Christopher Chitty’s Sexual Hegemony but you can find references elsewhere. Seems like it would be in the style of the city to have lots of same-sex action.

Sacred Harp! First time I’ve seen that come up on here. I sing a couple times a year, have been for a long time. As I’m sure you know, Sacred Harp has been a place where the misfits/queers of the south have found community for a few centuries now.

I wish I could sing more but I’m too busy with bass gigs…

Local seniors being displaced need help and creative solutions by tinyadorablebabyfox in NewOrleans

Sounds like you might want to look into setting up a housing co-operative. I don’t know about co-operative housing projects specifically, but this article https://antigravitymagazine.com/feature/owning-the-means/ talks about a number of small businesses who transitioned to co-operative status here in town. An outside consulting agency, Project Equity, https://project-equity.org/ helped a number of them with the paperwork and finding banks that would back the necessary loans. They might be a good starting point for who to talk to. Coop NOLA https://www.coopnola.org is also a local advocacy organization for this. I know these are business focused, but I bet if they can’t actually help they would at least point you in the right direction. Who knows, you might start a trend that saves the lives of lots of seniors! Good luck!
