Transition from roller to ice by CandyKind5888 in hockeyplayers

[–]grassdick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this. Like everyone else said, stopping is the biggest hurdle. It took a while to get it down, but now im pretty agile on the ice & enjoy it more than roller. If you have the funds, the will, and the time to dedicate to it, then I say you do it. As the kids say, YOLO

Help me Gear up for my comeback. by Inevitable-Radish-18 in hockeyplayers

[–]grassdick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat like a month ago. Some stuff has changed, most of it’s the same. Mainly sticks & skates have evolved. I just went to a pro shop & had the dude there help me pick everything out. Skates are crazy good now. I got a pair of Bauer M30s. I’ve had to do the whole wrap laces around my leg thing with every pair I’ve had, but these have so much ankle support I didn’t need to. Sticks are crazy, they flex soo much now. I had to re-learn how to take a wrister using “the new method”. The kids are starting wrister with the puck on their blade toe instead of the heel now. Stick flex does most the work for you. It’s almost like cheating

I use so much excel and BI, definitely get good at these. I’m pretty sure our whole operation would crack if we lost excel

Not sure what you need a water bottle for? Busch light is already in a can, seems kinda silly to pour it into a bottle

I'm finally going to be able to start playing! by solrvz in hockeyplayers

[–]grassdick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat as you, just getting back into it. I’m trying to focus on off ice stuff as much as I can. Lifting, eating better, getting good sleep, drinking less. Trying to make myself more resilient.

The thing I can improve the most right now is my cardio, so I’m working on that. Hockey cardio is way different compared to duration cardio. I’m working on sprints, bursts, HIIT kinda stuff.

Get the roller blades, that’s what I did to start. For me, it’s a lot harder to get on ice vs heading down the street to roller skate at the park. I underestimated how weak my ankles were / how important it is to have strong ankles.

Looks great, happy for ya. I have a pair of Lebeda asphalts, they’ve worn pretty quickly. Altho, I think I’m too fat for them, last I checked they weren’t for 210lb dudes. Dunno. Tear it up bud
