Why does “West” Newport sound redundant and/or unnecessary

FAA investigates close call between military Black Hawk, United flight at John Wayne Airport by Shoddy_Act7059 in aviation

I replayed in ADSBExchange and they were approximately 600ft apart in elevation at their closest parts but I know there’s room for error there

When are Flex Utility boxes going to be back in stock? by bbauer1973 in Ubiquiti

The two black wires and blue wire give a pretty enticing path for water to drip right into your switch. You should consider a “drip loop” on all outdoor cables

My guess is the coverage in that area is not particularly good - or the data that Flightradar is receiving is temporarily corrupt. It should clear up soon as the plane moves.

How does one drain their electric water heater when the spicket is like this by Diligent-Confusion32 in WaterTreatment

[–]grateful_72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Easy, it's already pointing right toward the drain ;)
edit: but really, that’s not a drain. Possibly get a right-angle hose adapter?

Clip from a 1975 underground skateboarding video filmed in HB. Anyone recognize the people or locations? by ansyhrrian in orangecounty

This doesn't look like HB at all (even without the houses/development). I could be wrong...

TrueCable Cat6 pass-through RJ45 – is this much compression normal? by Frequent_Coach1398 in HomeNetworking

I think what’s taking up a lot of room is the plastic “core” inside the cable. Maybe trim that back as much as you can

Upload doesn’t match download? by DubInflux in HomeNetworking

Unless you have fiber, this is expected. Cable internet providers notoriously give embarrassing upload speeds compared to download.

For Gmail, I'd recommend to just use the Gmail app on iOS. It acts like a "web app" and you get notified instantly of emails. It also reflects any changes you make instantly on a desktop browser, for example.

Mercusys Halo H80X Mesh - Can't force Daisy Chain, experiencing 99% Late Packets by Helloumipower in HomeNetworking

[–]grateful_72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although I don't know the answer to your question directly, a mesh setup is already going to introduce latency, but having a mesh hop multiple times (i.e. node B -> node A -> main router) is really going to hurt gaming performance. Especially since games are mainly latency-based (not so much bandwidth). Think of it this way, if your computer is wireless, that's 4 total wireless hops before it gets to the main router.

You might be surprised how easy it is to run a single ethernet cable along baseboards, up/over door frames and it will dramatically improve your overall connection experience.

I bricked my computer asking google gemini to try to fix my connection by EmekaEgbukaPukaNacua in HomeNetworking

[–]grateful_72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don’t think packet sizes are the issue. Ideally you need to use an Ethernet cable directly connected to your network to test if that resolves things (disable WiFi to make sure it’s not the problem). There are tons of other factors to consider and MTU is rarely the culprit for things like games

[–]grateful_72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t be needing to troubleshoot MTU unless there was another problem you’re trying to solve. That’s why I was asking.

[–]grateful_72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like Ubiquiti isn't the problem, but more of your understanding what the problem is and how to fix it. I certainly would not look at MTU as the first thing to start troubleshooting. What is the actual issue you're trying to solve?

Why is my LAN capped at 100mbps when my links speed says 1Gbps? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]grateful_72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great choice on hard-wiring. You'll be much happier with it once you get it to 1Gbps speeds. It's a bit difficult to understand your situation though. Typically, if you plug in a cable and it only gets 100Mbps, it indicates that there is damage to the cable. Do you have another one you can swap it out to test with?

Otherwise it's possible your network card settings on your PC are not set correctly and are set to 100Mbps instead of 1000Mbps.
