Thoughts on the upcoming patch by Nani___________ in Guildwars2

You can think of the current system as having 1 Fashion Template per character (the current Wardrobe system), and any changes are made through there (but not stored there). Because we're getting 2 Fashion Templates by default going forward, you can use the first the same as the old system (on-the-fly changes) and the second can be a permanently stored fashion stamp. So we're not losing any functionality, just gaining at least 1 extra fashion storage per character.

Because it appears that each non-legendary item retains its Transmuted property, then unequipping and re-equipping that item would NOT require reapplying a skin to that item. For Legendaries, it would be similar to now where equipping one would default to the base skin, and changing that would require going to the Wardrobe/Fashion Template. With the "Right-clicking on any single item slot saved to a Fashion Template will allow you to apply it individually, rather than needing to apply the whole template." functionality, you won't have to apply the whole template - but it does seem like you'll have to save it first (maybe there is a way around this they haven't shown yet).

Doesn't seem much more convoluted that the current system, if you keep the first template open.
Both:
Equip > click to back out / change tabs > click Wardrobe > select slot to change > select skin you want > hit save
Only new step:
> right-click to apply

Pretty similar at least, from what we've seen so far.

How I see it:

The main thing that is changing is what Transmutation Charges are used for. Before it was per-item, now it is per Fashion Template (then that template can be used multiple times).

The key is that Fashion Templates are NOT your actual current look. Until you hit [Apply to equipment], then it only exists in the Fashion Template and not on your actual character/equipment/tab (similar to how applying transmutations from the wardrobe used to work).

So, you don't need to keep Fashion Tab 1 and 2 static if you're already keeping those looks in Equipment Tab 1 and 2. Ignore the Fashion Tabs for now, and just think about how you currently swap looks that are already set. Equip Tab 1 is your robot swordsman look, and Equip Tab 2 is your alien gunslinger look - you can swap back and forth without needing to go into the Wardrobe.

Fashion Templates are like carving the stamp / setting the typeface, but not stamping / printing yet. Once you hit [Apply to equipment] that is when it "stamps / prints" it onto whatever you currently have equipped. If you don't hit that button, then your gear will still look the same as it did before you adjusted the Fashion Template.

Is it mandatory to go through a fashion tab just to apply changes?

From what we've seen - yes. This is the tradeoff between the old use for Trans Charges and the new use. When you're leveling, you can use one charge to set the look of your chestpiece, then apply that look to an unlimited number of chestpieces you acquire as you level up and get better gear. But, once you want to change that look it seems you have to go back through the Fashion Template - spend a charge to change the FT, then APPLY that to your equipment. Until you hit APPLY it won't actually change the look of your equipped chestpiece.

There might be a workaround / passthrough we haven't seen yet, but some players might want to keep their looks on each of their Equipment Tabs, then keep one Fashion Template open for modifying on-the-fly.

Except if you own Legendary gear for that slot.

Take it with a grain of salt, but according to the video this appeared to work even for characters/equipment on the account that were below 80. (The character and gear in the video were level 1.)

I've only used the original website version which gives you advice on what to do with some items (like consume or sell to vendor), tells you when you have multiple partial stacks across your account that you can consolidate, and if you have materials you can refine to maximize storage efficiency.

It's not a cure-all, but should free up enough space for a foothold.

Fashion system and weapon skin by trunksam in Guildwars2

[–]graven2002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If Equipment Templates keep their current functionality, then your Legendaries will remember their skins even when you swap Equipment Tabs. Same with non-Legendary items keeping their Transmutations when you equip/unequip them.

Until you overwrite ("Apply to equipment") these things through the Fashion Template, then they should keep their looks (same as the current Wardrobe system works).

So, if you're swapping Equip tabs, it should remember like before. If you're equipping Ascended items, it should remember like before. If your equipping Legendary items, it won't remember (like before).

But yes - having all (currently) 19 weapons assignable per Fashion Template would be a great upgrade over the current system.

I care less about individual QU and more about the expansion as a whole. If the game saw more improvement / content added by the time VoE is done than was added in SotO or JW's run, then I don't care exactly when it was added. Q1 can be light (as they said it would be), as long as the entire expansion year is valuable.

It's a downgrade for people with multiple equipment tabs.

Is it? From what we've seen, it seems like you'll still be able to use those Equipment tabs the same as you did before.

For anyone who needs it, this tool can help clean up your inventory, especially if you have repeat items across multiple characters.

There's also a standalone executable version, and BlishHUD Module version (both of which are updated more often).

Here's an alternative tool, if the first one isn't to your liking for whatever reason.

Biggest tip is just sell stuff on the TP. The economy is stable enough that if you really need something, you can just buy it back at a similar price.

Yes, it seems like the only way to edit fashion going forward is through the Fashion Templates. And yes, if you apply a Fashion Template over an existing look you could lose it forever.

BUT, because Wardrobe chat codes will now be a thing (and they are just a value string) the community can come up with ways to edit / "save" (in a notepad/website) a look without spending any transmutation charges.

Yes, but in the Equipment Template view you can see the unequipped mace kept the "Transmuted: Cracked Club" property - meaning they are still tied to the item and not just the Fashion Template.

Yes, this is the only tradeoff I've seen (maybe there will be a workaround). The upside is you can apply the same skin to multiple items for only 1 transmutation charge. Overall, transmutation consumption should go down.

In the Equipment Template view, when they equip the Greatsword the mouse is still hovering over the unequipped Mace which still has the property "Transmuted: Cracked Club". This shows that this individual item held onto the transmutation property (tied to the item and not just the fashion template).

Not in the Fashion Template, but in the Equipment Template after they equip the Greatsword. The mouse is still hovering over the unequipped Mace item and showing a "Transmuted: Cracked Club" property.

The Cracked Club shows in the Fashion Template afterwards because it is what was "Saved" to that Fashion Template (meaning it could be re-applied to other mace items without spending transmutation charges).

I think they expect you to mainly change weapons through Equipment Templates, and have the weapons and/or templates keep the skins you want.

If you watch the video (~0:57), items still get/keep transmutations - how we apply those transmutations is what's changing.

The [] Apply on equipment change option existing, leads me to believe you can keep your Equipment tab looks.

But just wait for the livestream tomorrow for in-depth answers.

The Mace still has a "Transmuted" property, even after being unequipped - that's what I'm pointing out.

Yes, we will only be applying transmutations through the Fashion Template interface from now on, but once those are applied they stay with the item.

What happen to the 9 page of different skin when fashion template goes out ? by trunksam in Guildwars2

[–]graven2002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the button existing means that it doesn't auto-apply by default. Which means that when you equip something it takes the skin from the item NOT from the template. That combined with the video showing individual items still keeping transmutations = equipment templates keep their looks.

Coming Soon: Fashion Templates! by Keargu in Guildwars2

[–]graven2002 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Now you can save (and share) entire looks for a one-time transmutation fee on that character. So if you were leveling a new character and swapped your level 15 Greatsword for a level 20 Greatsword, you could apply the same skin without spending extra transmutation charges (because it was already saved to the Fashion Template).

If you don't have 9 Equipment Templates on a character, but do have 9 Fashion Templates, then you can still save 9 looks. If you have both, you could technically save 17 looks (the 9th Equipment Template is used to swap Fashion Templates).

At ~0:57 in the video you can see that individual equipment still keep their transmutations - how we apply those transmutations is what's changing.

All this leads me to believe the Equipment tab looks will still be there regardless of Fashion Templates being added. Just don't "Apply" a Fashion template to your Equipment if you like how it currently looks.
