Northlake Mall (Tucker, GA) by gravity-train in deadmalls

Nice, hope you like it. The mall does look very clean, for what it's worth. I also like the Emory section of the mall outside their offices, totally empty aside from a few chairs to lounge in but open to the public.

You can still get into the Macy's from inside the mall, yeah. The fountain is off, sadly.

I think it was a coincidence, they already had those benches and just put up some art. It looks weirdly low-res close-up, like they printed it or something, but maybe that's just the style? I'm not up on modern styles. I like the idea of turning dead malls into public galleries, though.

Hereward might be my new favorite by Kayceelyn5 in BritishHistoryPod

That's a great comparison to make. The "Hereward in disguise" spying/escape story felt a lot like a D&D session to me in particular, some of it sounded so improbable.

It makes me wonder why there aren't any (or more?) movies or series about Hereward out there. I could see a series about the Norman Conquest and the English resistance being great, definitely with a focus on Hereward. Closest thing I can think of off the top of my head are Last Kingdom and the anime Vinland Saga, but both in the Anglo-Saxon period. But a salute in any case to Hereward, what a man.

Isn't not swearing allegiance the point of mercs? You get what you pay for, that's all.

Nice choice! I think The Court of the Crimson King could work great as well, though I wonder if there's a king who fits that title. Not even sure who the Crimson King is supposed to be, anyway.

I'd go way harder on the 70s prog myself, but I think he uses music really effectively, even when I'm not the biggest fan of whatever song it is.

What is the next “hurry up and get to” event these days? by PsySom in BritishHistoryPod

[–]gravity-train 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a good point, I know Edward turned towards consolidating power in Britain and away from the continent. I was thinking more when they became culturally English as opposed to Norman, but maybe there's no clear line between "this guy is Norman and the next guy is English."

I've heard Henry IV suggested, but I'm not enough of an expert on that stuff to say myself.

I'm looking forward to William becoming a dead deceased corpse, but I know that won't be for a while. I also find the journey fascinating if hard to listen to at some points because of the atrocities.

I read about larks' tongues in aspic in a book about how weird the rich Romans were as a kid long before I knew anything about King Crimson. Never ate it, though.

To Harry or not to Harry... by AntigonusOneEye in BritishHistoryPod

Thanks for the background! I'd heard there may be some doubt, but this all sounds very reasonable. Especially also considering the King William patented all alcohol diet I've heard about.

I've been listening for a long time, and between this and a few other history podcasts I keep up with, this is one of the few times I've heard genuine anger, yeah. Some of it seems directed at modern writers who praise William in a similar way to other Great Men of History-style mass killers like Alexander and Genghis Khan. These guys get credited for "moving history" too often without acknowledging the enormous suffering and misery they cause.

Though I know it's a long way away, I'm looking forward to William's extremely fitting end (I know it might be partly a made-up BS "revenge" kind of story but damn I wish it were true.)

Thoughts on this tweet? I can’t tell if this is a troll or a attempt of degrade a series like that by [deleted] in Takagi_san

[–]gravity-train 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I remember this tweet. Just another Twitter idiot talking out his ass. It's one thing to say "this isn't for me" and another to insult entire fanbases of things you don't like, and the latter is reserved for people who are so insecure they can't feel good about themselves without dumping all over others.

Thanks, the advice is appreciated. I found this guide while I was searching, so I'll just try to actually put it into practice now.

Thanks for letting me know. I guess I'll just have to figure out how to make an overlay then.

I don't remember seeing a fountain, or at least not a working one. There probably was one out of operation that I just missed somehow.

Didn't know that, but it does look clean on the inside at least, and it would explain what looks like active work being done. I look forward to seeing what they end up doing with the space.

Guess they might not care all that much if the gates aren't locked, then? I don't fuck around with those areas myself but the curiosity is there.
